This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

After my last two leases being a Volvo, the vehicle is not reliable the overall scenario is arrogance. I decided to shop around and this G6 is just better in every category with many more facilities to get help if necessary, than Volvo could imagine. The grand finale is of course ON Star, what a sensational item. I am absolutely excited about my G6 and so far it is head and shoulder better than the S 70 and S 60 volvo I had recently leased.

I bought the car online and after i paid i read all the bad reviews. my experience with the car has be mostly positive the only problem i had was with the brakes. i replaced the brakes myself(ceramics of course)and i replaced the rotors at the same time because of all the reviews about them. i feel if pontiac is more sport orientated they would use some decent rotors. a few other problems ive encountered is my throttle body keeps getting dirty and the car clunks and rattles. for a car with such a big engine it get between 33 and 29MPG (60-90 MPH).the sound system is great. i had to replace the radio(6 disc)and just got an aftermarket and got a device to replace the DIC.all in all a good car

I have driven 5 Pontiac Bonnevilles before I bought my G6 GT. I loved my Bonnies. They always met my driving needs as far as performance, handling and comfort was concerned. I test drove the G6 and was amazed that while the G6 was smaller, the performance and comfort was on par with the Bonnies. The handling was even better than what I was used to.

  • Great car to own and drive! - 2006 Pontiac G6

Driven the car on all sorts of trips. One 2000 mile stint and it was very comfortable and pleasure to drive. This car is fun, and even great accelerations with the 3.5L V6. I averaged 33 MPG on the long trip and am getting 22 in the city. This is the first car Ive had with Satelite Radio and I really like it. On Star is a great safety option that ever car in america should have. I must say the G6 has been a pleasnt surprise for me. I think GM/Pontiac has got a winner on their hands for sure. I picked the G6 over the Grand Prix. Mostly because of styling and more room for my back seat riders. This car is great all around!

  • REGRETS AND DISAPPOINTMENT! - 2006 Pontiac G6

I just unloaded this car ... its been in the shop MULTIPLE times, 5 times for the same thing!!! Steering column. Also problems with leaky sunroof and vanity mirrors replaced 3 times! LOVE the way the car looks and always got compliments on it but reliability was just awful! Also lots of problems with brakes and rotars too. Car has new front and rear brakes and still shakes when braking. Very disappointed in this car and after reading these reviews its seems like all are common problems. Too bad cuz the great looks great. Got a 2007 Nissan Maxima and have my fingers crossed this one is better quality!

We sold our 99 Bonneville SE which we had been driving for seven years, with our ONLY mechanical repair being a defective fuel pressure regulator which ended up being a recall item, but only cost $70 bucks. Did I mention the car had 178,000 miles on it! We knew we wanted to stay with GM, and Pontiac, my wife is the primary driver and fell in love with the G6 as soon as she seen it. It has the 3.5 liter which has been around for many years, with two (2) displacement upgrades it is the old 2.8Lt v6, then it was upgraded to the 3.1Lt, now it is the 3.5 and the HP is awesome!

Overall Great Car! I have only had this car for a month, and I love it. Although I have had 3 or 4 instances where my wheel will lock up when I shift out of park into drive and my check engine light comes on. I shut the car off and it turns on without the engine light coming on. Kinda weird with only 30,000 miles on the car. I love the way it rides, very quite engine!

  • Buyer Beware! - 2006 Pontiac G6

Ive had my 2006 Pontiac G6 for almost 5 years. Very disappointing and lots of maintenance issues beginning at 12,000 mi. Engine, electronic steering, wheel, and paint issues. Very cheap interior plastic parts that continue to break or pop off, condensation in headlight, and now CD player has quit working altogether. I take care of the cars I buy but this one has been non-stop repair bills.

Bought this car with 19,000 miles on it. Replaced mirror covers several times. Uncontrollably shakes while breaking. Clicking sound when turning and now with 61,000 miles on it my engine smells of burning and a metal rubbing sound with acceleration. Highly upset and do not recommend to anyone.

  • First "NEW" Car - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

This was the first NEW (Brand New) car that I had ever purchased. I normally will pick up a car that has a year or so on it to save a few bucks - But No Regrets! This car is a ton of fun to drive and handles incredibly well on the road. In fact, I am in Wyoming, and the Winter driving was as good as the Spring. The traction control is awesome! The only problem that I have run into is with the Indexing Windows. Problem being, they freeze in Wyoming and I am afraid I am going to break a window to open the door. The solution, Remote Start! Wish I would have gone for the GTP and Climate Control, but other than that, no regrets!
