This Year's Model Updates:

Electronic traction control is now available on all models, with a bigger gas tank and an oil life monitor standard. A Torsen limited-slip rear axle comes with V8 models (and V6 cars with the performance package), while an eight-speaker Delco/Monsoon sound system goes into the convertible. A power-steering cooler is now available for V8s, and a Hurst shifter is optional on the six-speed manual transmission. The Ram Air WS6 package now sports dual outlet exhaust, and two new exterior colors debut, Pewter and Medium Blue Metallic. The 30th anniversary Trans Am sports an extroverted paint scheme that features two blue stripes running over the hood and deck lid.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, spectacular V8, true muscle car performance package at bargain-basement price.
Cons:
  • Boy-racer-in-gold-chains image, cheesy interior plastic, sky-high insurance rates for V8 models.

The ls1 is a world class engine that no other manufacturer can match for the money, BAR NONE. It is more reliable, makes more power,& responds better to modifications than any other engine Ive seen. There is no better bang for the buck, PERIOD. END OF STORY. There are better cars out there, Sure, but Im not gonna pay TWICE the money or more for the same performance this car offers. Its had a couple headlight motors go out, two headlight bulbs, and a couple window motors fail. Its not a 100k dollar car though, so I cant complain.

  • I Love my Ram Air Trans Am! - 1999 Pontiac Firebird

My Trans Am has been a very low maintenance car. The power is terrific and the mileage is very good considering the power. I have had only very minor problems with this car and it is almost 8 years old and I DRIVE it!

I bought my car from new in 1999 and what a great car it is, i had it shipped over to where i live in england and love it to bits. I cant understand why GM stopped production of such a beutiful looking car, and boy does it go it is very fast and the LS1 is one hell of an engine.

my car is the ram air trans am. and is powered by a powerdyne supercharger running 7psi. also exhaust and k&n air filter. i put it on the dyno and got it tuned. the car was pushin 500 horse and 425 horse at the rear. i smoke corvettes with it and the stock ram air looks like its not even moving. i still also beat the Z-06 too

  • Great, fun car! - 1999 Pontiac Firebird

I bought my T/A in July of 07. I had to get a few things fixed and replaced, but thats because the previous owner didnt take care of it. I use only 93 octane gas from either Shell or Chevron, and only use Royal Purple oil. Since Ive gotten ahold of it, its run better than ever. I guess what Im trying to say is, just take care of it. Mine has Ram Air and some mods, and it dynod at 370hp. Even a stock T/A is fast! I get a ton of looks, and people trying to race me. I used to have an Integra, and I have to say... American muscle is the only way to go. If you get this car, you will not be disappointed.

  • Lots of fun, but not worth it! - 1999 Pontiac Firebird

I got this car as a gift when I turned 16.I am now 19 and wish I would have never saw it!It is an awesome car to drive, ive had alot of memories and fun in it.But Ive have to have it in the shop every other month for the last year.Ive had to replace the turn signals mulitple times, the catalitic converter twice, new battery, fuel injectors, plugs and wires twice, also had to have the O2 sensors replaced. The car has 72K miles on it and has had problems since 30K.Power window motors each replaced twice. The rotors also where shot at 40K miles. The speakers are also all blown. The car was fun for the first year now I hate it!

  • Nice, but be careful - 1999 Pontiac Firebird

I love this car, I really do... but if you think you are getting a maintance free car, think again. Ive had to replace the cadilidic converter, transmition, and window motors all in a matter of 8 months. Its a fun car to drive, but again with any sports car, be prepared to put up with some headaches. Also, upgrading some of the performance peices can be a snap, but others can be a pain in the rear. For example, the engine is mounted sideways, so replacing spark plugs can be a chore. NOTE, I only gave the performance a six becuase the relaibility is so poor.... mine is increased to a good 230 HP and it handles great, but becuase of shop problems Im often left wondering.

  • Bang for the Buck - 1999 Pontiac Firebird

This car is the most fun car I have ever driven the power of the V-8 is superb. Im surprised with some of these reviews saying they had major problems. The only problem I have had in three years is the clutch sticking and that just turned out to be a bushing that was out of alignment. Maybe I was lucky, but my Formula has been prefroming like a champ since purchase and I ride it hard. Could use a little sprucing up with the interior, but what do you expect for under $30K.

  • Too much fun - 1999 Pontiac Firebird

I have a silver 5 speed, T-top coupe with a V6-lots of power and appeal. Yes the bucket seat is too low, rear visibility is not good, interior could be prettier.etc.but at the end of the day, driving this thing with the top off if just too much fun. I love the exterior look. I still grin as I walk out to the parking lot and see it waiting. Driving it is excellent therapy and a tension reliever-even my wife feels that way when she roars off shifting gears like a stock car racer. My neighbor has a new Vette (06) also silver and frankly, side by side, look to look I really think my old beast still holds its own-especially when you compare our investments!

  • Delightful Black 99 Trans Am - 1999 Pontiac Firebird
    By -

I have had this car for almost 8 years and 100,000 miles. I have really enjoyed it. Always have loved the style - looks like it is flying even when sitting still. Lots of power with the V8, still gets looks (especailly after some Zaino). Corners like its on rails and brakes quickly. I get about 300 miles per fill up. Starting to have some trim problems with things falling apart, however, and was hit with the notorious 99 electrical problems such as bad alternator, bad power window motor, bad power antenna motor, several battery changes and fairly short life of headlight, fog lamp and turn signal bulbs. Despite this, my trans am has been my favorite car to date in terms of driving enjoyment.
