Good car, sad to see it go - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By GML - December 31 - 7:10 pmHad this car for 12 years -- getting a new one because now have children and I had the bare bones version of this with no LATCH, auto windows, etc. I kept up with maintenance, and over the years did replace intake manifold (per GM service note), a couple of batteries, and an alternator (it had been left undriven for three months), water pump, and AC controls. Most of these have been in the last couple of years, which makes sense once the car hits ten years old. Car was very good about warning lights -- most times warning came early enough to get it to a shop and I was never stranded.

also had brake issues - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By swilliams - December 19 - 10:00 amMy 1999 Cutlass has only 23,000 miles on it. I also had to have the brakes replaced (at 21,00 miles!). I have just been told I need new tires - even though I have been vigilant about rotating and alignments. There is no way a car with this low mileage should have to have brakes/tires replaced at under 25,000 miles! Other than those issues I have thoroughly enjoyed my Cutlass.

Problems - 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By SML - December 19 - 10:00 amIve also had Rotor problems from the onset. It currently has 61,000 miles on it and has and oil leak from the engine and a transmission leak. ABS sensor in the wheel bearings and to costly to repair when they go on the fritz.

A GM Money Trap - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By Jimbo - November 15 - 3:40 pmAfter numerous shoddy brake replacements, ABS sensor malfunctions, alternators, premature leather wear, air conditioning faults, transmission disasters, and the final death knell of the infamous intake manifold leak, Im glad to be saying bye-bye to the Cutlass. Be warned, this is a car you will be pouring major cash into to keep it operational, and thats not including the disappointing fuel economy either.

Fuel Injector Problems - 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By grand slam - August 18 - 2:00 amThe Cutlass is a decent car at best. It has been in the shop many times. Most recently for all 6 new fuel injectors. I should have bought the extended warranty. Too many mechanical problems. Be careful if you buy it used. Gas mileage is a shade below what the sticker said.

Could be High Dollar - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By Al in Texas - July 24 - 2:00 amThis could be a High Dollar car if there wasnt so many things going wrong with it. I had bought the car w/36000 miles on it. Break job w/in the 1st year. New tires 2nd year. New internal fan moter for interier comfert 3rd year. And fixed the horn twice during this time. Also the Alternator went out twice.

Cutlass blues - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By Sandykoot - June 28 - 10:00 amI found the car to be comfortable enough, and when it works, it works well. Like others, I find it eats brakes up at an amazing rate, having replaced the front brakes 4 times in 90,000 miles. Have had problems with AC, which never worked well, as well as radio, alternator, computer module, an unfindable coolant leak and other minor problems. I am disappointed in the reliability of the car, and am trading it much sooner than I wished due to its unreliability. Thank God for AAA, which gets called to drag this dog out of the road. This is my second and LAST Olds.

Good car - 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By woodaf23 - April 20 - 12:46 amweve had our Cutlass for 7 years now and it has 126,000 miles now. Its been a great car, never left us stranded. Has had regular maintenance, but nothing major, and nothing recurring/problematic. Weve put a lot of miles on it and use it pretty much every day and its been good to us. In the last year or two it had developed some rust along the bottom of the doors, which Im told is a common problem for the cutlass/malibus. For being a 6 cylinder it has pretty good performance and is fun to drive.

Cutty - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By Mani - December 7 - 1:30 amIntake manifold went twice, like everyone else on here $600 the first time and $500 the second time. Alternator, battery because of alternator, rotors and pads, more times than I can count, front end axle, water pump twice. Computer system is a mess, recalled, but didnt bother wasting my time getting it. No wonder they stopped making this car.

maintain it - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
By kjo - December 5 - 1:46 pmI got my car in December 1999, it now has 178,ooo miles on it. If you want this car to last do what I did. KEEP UP THE MAINTAINCE. I do the maintaince regularly when scheduled and I fix the minor problems before they become major. This car is still going strong. I will keep it. To bad they dont make this car anymore or I would by another.
