  • Its in the shop again - 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass
    By -

I bought this car from a dealers home in the fall with cooler weather. I can see why it wouldnt sell in hot weather,as the transmission clunks real bad when its hot out. I bought the car with 44,000 and have 84,000. My mechanic said my transmission was perfect inside but bulged on the outside. He put in another one last week with 5,000 less miles on it and it was clunking within 10 miles of the shop. He fixed the wheel bearing. The air conditioner hasnt worked since last summer. Ive had to replace the water pump and fix the front end when the steering stopped working. He replaced something to control the pressure in the transmission but that didnt help. The tape player was bad also.

  • Shaking on the Highway - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
    By -

This car is confortable to sit in and once it gets going, it has a lot of good acceleration. However, on the highway, it is a little shaky, and does not have the refinement of mid-size imports. Engine and trans is reliable, but electrical problems with dash had to be replaced twice, to correct short in climate control. Also, cassette player stopped working after $50K although CD still working. Air conditioner fan cuts out on long road trips. If you are looking for a big American car for a little money, this is not a bad choice.

  • Pretty Good for the money - 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass

I bought the car in 1999 with about 18,000 miles on it. The V6 engine has plenty of power to move the car. I have had the same problems listed by others; two intake gaskets, alternator, brakes galore. Then at 178,000 miles the camshaft broke, destroying the engine. I bought a junk yard engine and tranny with 26,000 miles on them and had the car back on the road for $1500. Its now pushing 190,000 miles and I plan to drive it until it can no longer be repaired. Im 67" tall and theres plenty of legroom for me in the drivers seat. Ive been very pleased with the car. Ive definitely gotten my moneys worth out of it.

  • My Alero Fred - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass

I have named my Alero Fred because we have been through so much together. He is the best car Ive ever owned; very reliable, smooth ride, and powerful.

  • BRAKES! - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
    By -

4TH BRAKE JOB IN LESS THAN 4 YEARS AND 54K MILES! I also have been told it is my driving habits. First time in 30 years of owning cars that I been told that! I have had some other problems with the car, but it is the brake problems I find totally UNACCEPTABLE! I have called olds customer service at 1- 800-442-6537 to complain. Waiting for a response. If you have had 2 or more brake jobs in less than 4 years, you should call too. This is not only a monetary issue as well as an inconvenience, I am concerned about the safety issue as well.

Got this car in March just as a point A to point B car. Rides pretty well with a nice suspension and decent power. Fuel economy has been about 17/25/20.5, which is acceptable. The car is roomy and comfortable, but the build quality is pretty iffy. Had a couple interior trim pieces fall off, and some other loosely attached pieces. Mechanically it has help up pretty good, but a cog in the steering mechanism is off-set, not said to be a serious problem though.

  • Amazing First Car - 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass
    By -

I recently bought this car from my friends grandmother, who hardly ever drove it. It only had 52,980 miles on it. I have had it for a month and it now has almost 54,000 miles on it. It is amazingly fun to drive. Even though it is kind of a grandma car, it still can get up and go. The leather interior is amazing. This is an overall great car. I have had no problems with it, but the wiper fluid container has a leak.

  • 1999 Cutlass GL sedan - 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass

I have had my car almost 2 years now. It has 180,000 miles on it we have had it to Florida 4 times, Louisville several. The car still runs like a new one. I see all these bad things wrong with these on here. I guess I just got a good one the only major problem we have had is the intake gasket small problem. Didnt take but $200 to fix. Seems like these people all just got a lemon.
