Make Overview:

Nissan was born in Japan, and like other marques from its homeland, the brand is known for crafting vehicles that place an emphasis on quality and reliability. The company's roster of products is broad, and includes sporty coupes, family sedans, minivans, trucks and SUVs.

The automaker got its start in 1933 as the Jidosha Seico Co., Ltd. The following year, this outfit merged with another Japanese manufacturer, and the new company was christened Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. Nissan initially marketed its vehicles under the Datsun brand, with the first Datsuns being built in 1934. Postwar, the brand made its presence felt worldwide, building a partnership with the U.K.-based Austin Motor Co. and establishing a presence in the United States. The first Datsuns hit American shores in 1958. Vehicles like the Datsun 1000 were based on Austin platforms.

The '60s witnessed Nissan's merger with Prince Motor Company, a union that helped the Asian manufacturer create more luxury-focused vehicles. In the U.S. it began offering its first vehicle styled for the U.S. market, the Datsun 510 sedan. By the end of the decade, Datsun had exported more than 1 million vehicles. Datsun rose to prominence in the 1970s on the popularity of its 240Z sports car. Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine, the car was coveted for its blend of style, performance and affordability. By the time the '70s drew to a close, the automaker's cumulative vehicle exports had surpassed the 10 million mark.

In 1981, Nissan shelved the Datsun name and began selling vehicles worldwide under the Nissan moniker. The '80s also saw Nissan's launch of a tuning division called Nismo for the development of performance-oriented vehicles and accessories. Nissan also brought its production to American shores, with the construction of a Georgia-based plant.

The early '90s saw Nissan's fortunes rise in the U.S. thanks to fun-to-drive cars like the 300ZX, Maxima and Sentra. But this trend didn't last long and by the late '90s Nissan's offerings consisted of anonymous vehicles. The company's future was uncertain.

After the turn of the new century Nissan bounced back, helped by a 1999 alliance with Renault that boosted the company's finances. Its redesigned Sentra and Altima boosted sales and consumer interest, as did new models like the 350Z sports car, Armada SUV and Titan pickup. Today the manufacturer is known for offering a wide range of well-regarded vehicles, including the popular Murano SUV, the incredible GT-R supercar and the all-electric Leaf.

  • My Quest - 2004 Nissan Quest
    By -

My wife and I spent several weeks researching, viewing and driving minivans and suvs. My Nisson Quest sl beat them all in power, comfort, ergonomics, style and features. The DVD play/sound system is a real plus for long trips. The placement of the console/shifter is unique.

  • Safety first - 2004 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I was in a horrible head on collision in Dec. Everyone told me the only reason I was alive was because of my car! In my opinion, the XTERRA is the safest car on the road.

  • Had to Have It - 2004 Nissan 350Z

  • I the new Max - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I own two 1989 Maximas. My daughter in college drives one, my professional protester niece drives around the country in the other. Both are still running great. Until this redesign though, the Maxima lost some its charm / coolness, but the Maxima is back. we bought a Black SL, all options, including the traditional sunroof. We have not had ANY problems, none. I love the way the car drives, handles, feels, the Bose is fantastic. Little league games have the boys coming by saying "cool car" and this is before they hop into their moms Lexus or Mercedes. I traded an Audi A6 for the Maxima and I am a very happy owner.

  • Grinding Parts - 2008 Nissan Sentra
    By -

My 2008 Sentra has 25,000 miles and just took it in to the dealership because seems to downshift with difficulty, and also because of grinding/scratching sound coming from transmission (or engine)? Nissan Dealer agrees that he hears the grinding sound, but says this is NORMAL. What? Normal to hear parts scraping or grinding? Are you kidding me? Great, now what do I do?

I use the Internet to get prices without giving Phone#, only name and address (salesmans dont come home).AllBrands was the best.. Mileage looks better that my Dodge Caravan 98SE, so far 330 miles and feel great. Wife love it..Stereo is a Symphonic..great brakes and ride..the best!! • Good car for this price - 2009 Nissan Versa
    By -

I have this car about a couple of weeks and I just love this car. I looked at Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris. I see these cars on Route 1 and they look too small for that kind of Highway. I wanted 1.8 L not 1.5 like Fit and Yaris. Interior is roomy and it feels like a big car. Its zippy and I am very comfortable on highways.

  • 2008 Nissan Rogue - 2008 Nissan Rogue
    By -

The Rogue is tops in its class of compact crossovers when considering performance, quality, and price. Ive had many vehicles, 4th Nissan, and truly enjoy the fun nature and utility the Rogue offers. Great handling/ride combo. Very sporty without crossing the harsh line. Good quality and refined. Good gas mileage. Quiet. Very nice style and design. Great features and great Bose stereo. Small turning radius. Very good driving position and seat comfort. Fast for a 4cyl. Big glove box. Definitely worth your consideration if in the market for smaller SUV/crossover.
