Overview & Reviews
Nissan was born in Japan, and like other marques from its homeland, the brand is known for crafting vehicles that place an emphasis on quality and reliability. The company's roster of products is broad, and includes sporty coupes, family sedans, minivans, trucks and SUVs.
The automaker got its start in 1933 as the Jidosha Seico Co., Ltd. The following year, this outfit merged with another Japanese manufacturer, and the new company was christened Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. Nissan initially marketed its vehicles under the Datsun brand, with the first Datsuns being built in 1934. Postwar, the brand made its presence felt worldwide, building a partnership with the U.K.-based Austin Motor Co. and establishing a presence in the United States. The first Datsuns hit American shores in 1958. Vehicles like the Datsun 1000 were based on Austin platforms.
The '60s witnessed Nissan's merger with Prince Motor Company, a union that helped the Asian manufacturer create more luxury-focused vehicles. In the U.S. it began offering its first vehicle styled for the U.S. market, the Datsun 510 sedan. By the end of the decade, Datsun had exported more than 1 million vehicles. Datsun rose to prominence in the 1970s on the popularity of its 240Z sports car. Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine, the car was coveted for its blend of style, performance and affordability. By the time the '70s drew to a close, the automaker's cumulative vehicle exports had surpassed the 10 million mark.
In 1981, Nissan shelved the Datsun name and began selling vehicles worldwide under the Nissan moniker. The '80s also saw Nissan's launch of a tuning division called Nismo for the development of performance-oriented vehicles and accessories. Nissan also brought its production to American shores, with the construction of a Georgia-based plant.
The early '90s saw Nissan's fortunes rise in the U.S. thanks to fun-to-drive cars like the 300ZX, Maxima and Sentra. But this trend didn't last long and by the late '90s Nissan's offerings consisted of anonymous vehicles. The company's future was uncertain.
After the turn of the new century Nissan bounced back, helped by a 1999 alliance with Renault that boosted the company's finances. Its redesigned Sentra and Altima boosted sales and consumer interest, as did new models like the 350Z sports car, Armada SUV and Titan pickup. Today the manufacturer is known for offering a wide range of well-regarded vehicles, including the popular Murano SUV, the incredible GT-R supercar and the all-electric Leaf.

Great work van - 2015 Nissan NV Cargo
By Mike Cardillo - May 19 - 1:51 pmI own one with a V6 and one with a V8, both have enough power to do the job. The V8 is over kill unless you plan on carrying heavy loads. Milage is low around 13 highway. The V6 gets 18 highway and has plenty of get up and go... So far my 2012 has 40,000 miles and not a single repair. The van is tall so the wind will push it around some in windy conditions. A very good van to own.

Shift - 2006 Nissan Altima
By Chris - May 17 - 11:00 amI love to drive this car when my wife will let me that is. We wanted a car that would have enough room for people to ride with us but would also be fun to drive and as my wife says not look like a grandma car. The altima was the only car short of a CTS that we looked at and liked enough to buy.

2010 Altima Brake Failure - 2010 Nissan Altima
By Miss-taken - May 15 - 10:00 amBought a 2010 Altima SL on 8-4-2010 and 6 weeks later it was in the shop for over a week for brake failure. Tech had no clue what was wrong. Had to call Nissan to diagnose. Turns out bad break booster in a brand new car! Everyone, including a mechanic says they wouldnt trust the car and I dont. This shouldnt have happened to a new car! Tried to trade, but the dealer I bought it from said it lost $6000.00 in equity in 3 months! Now Im stuck paying on a car Im terrified to drive. My bank feels horrible and approved me for a new loan, but because of the loss of equity, I cant get a new car to book and thats the requirement for the loan. Big price to pay for a driveway ornament.

Disappointing - 2001 Nissan Altima
By Paul - May 14 - 8:40 pmI bought this 01 in 2005 with 75K. Its been pretty disappointing from the beginning. The handling is sloppy. I had to replace both motors at a cost of $300 each to the two front windows. That shouldnt have happened. The alternator also went out for another $600. New brake rotors on all four wheels cost another $900. I should have bought a used Camry or Accord (better quality), or a Ford Contour (cheaper, better handling). My parents had a 01 Camry and replaced nothing but the timing belt after 160K. No brakes, no window motors, no alternator. Nothing. The wheel caps are also extremely noisy. Poor quality over all. GM is probably better.

By laurelguy - May 14 - 11:53 amBought my 03 Frontier new in 1/03, havent had any complaints, now has 191k miles on it, having some issues but thats expected I guess. Speed sensors on both side needed replaced, now having to replace rear seal. Might be bandaging it but really dont want to let the truck go. Only complaint was local Nissan dealership for service or lack there of, but found local shop just as good and less expensive.

After 4 Nissans, this may be my last - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Kevin - May 12 - 9:23 pmFirst Ill confirm the complaints others had: 3 peeling grilles replaced under warranty before I gave up, turning radius make this care a bear to park, plastic trim pieces in interior are easily scratched. The final blow for me: Im burning 1 qt oil/750 miles. I do frequent oil changes and have never abused the car. I noticed the problem at around 65K and now have 80K. Dealer says, "sorry out of warranty".
