Overview & Reviews
Nissan was born in Japan, and like other marques from its homeland, the brand is known for crafting vehicles that place an emphasis on quality and reliability. The company's roster of products is broad, and includes sporty coupes, family sedans, minivans, trucks and SUVs.
The automaker got its start in 1933 as the Jidosha Seico Co., Ltd. The following year, this outfit merged with another Japanese manufacturer, and the new company was christened Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. Nissan initially marketed its vehicles under the Datsun brand, with the first Datsuns being built in 1934. Postwar, the brand made its presence felt worldwide, building a partnership with the U.K.-based Austin Motor Co. and establishing a presence in the United States. The first Datsuns hit American shores in 1958. Vehicles like the Datsun 1000 were based on Austin platforms.
The '60s witnessed Nissan's merger with Prince Motor Company, a union that helped the Asian manufacturer create more luxury-focused vehicles. In the U.S. it began offering its first vehicle styled for the U.S. market, the Datsun 510 sedan. By the end of the decade, Datsun had exported more than 1 million vehicles. Datsun rose to prominence in the 1970s on the popularity of its 240Z sports car. Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine, the car was coveted for its blend of style, performance and affordability. By the time the '70s drew to a close, the automaker's cumulative vehicle exports had surpassed the 10 million mark.
In 1981, Nissan shelved the Datsun name and began selling vehicles worldwide under the Nissan moniker. The '80s also saw Nissan's launch of a tuning division called Nismo for the development of performance-oriented vehicles and accessories. Nissan also brought its production to American shores, with the construction of a Georgia-based plant.
The early '90s saw Nissan's fortunes rise in the U.S. thanks to fun-to-drive cars like the 300ZX, Maxima and Sentra. But this trend didn't last long and by the late '90s Nissan's offerings consisted of anonymous vehicles. The company's future was uncertain.
After the turn of the new century Nissan bounced back, helped by a 1999 alliance with Renault that boosted the company's finances. Its redesigned Sentra and Altima boosted sales and consumer interest, as did new models like the 350Z sports car, Armada SUV and Titan pickup. Today the manufacturer is known for offering a wide range of well-regarded vehicles, including the popular Murano SUV, the incredible GT-R supercar and the all-electric Leaf.

Better than the Camry - 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid
By altiman - April 14 - 3:40 pmAfter owning an 07 Camry se for about a year, I decided to trade it in for the hybrid altima. What a great decision that was. Sure the Camry had good v6 power, but it lacked in features. For $30k I was able to get a hybrid Altima with every available feature. Which by the way was what I paid for the Camry with no real fun features.

Nice vehicle - 2006 Nissan Quest
By Mollari - April 14 - 9:23 amWe immediately took the vehicle on a 1000 mi trip (round trip miles). DVD player was great to have. I think theyre too conservative in their gas warnings.

Love my Platinum - 2016 Nissan Maxima
By Jim Wujkowski - April 13 - 2:52 amSimply, a great car. I never thought I would be in a Nissan. Was considering a BMW or Audi, but fell in love with the Platinum. Sporty yet comfortable. Great handling, quiet, and fast! Look forward to driving it everyday. Great gas mileage: 21 city, 34 hwy. You know you have a nice car when you catch strangers taking pictures of it in the parking lot! You did it right Nissan.

I like my Pathfinder - 2008 Nissan Pathfinder
By rochrandy - April 13 - 12:53 amI have owned three Xterras, 2000, 2002, & 2004. I decided to step up to the Pathfinder. Bought it Memorial Day 2008. I have 18000 miles on it with zero problems. I pull a small trailer and the Pathfinder handles it very well. I feel that I got my moneys worth when I purchased it.

Nissan Quest lover - 1999 Nissan Quest
By raaaaaaay - April 12 - 6:46 pmMy Nissan Quest has great styling and good power. I have never been stranded. It is a good value. This is my second Quest, I had a 1997 model before. I traded it in for a 2001 Mazda MPV. I drove the MPV for two months then put it up for sale. I couldnt stand all the quirks and how small it was. I then went out and bought my 1999 Quest. I cant wait to to trade up to even newer Quest. It has awesome styling and is very reliable.

OK for the Dont Cares - 2001 Nissan Altima
By fiblack - April 12 - 2:00 amI now have 22,000 miles on the car. It is fun to drive and handles good (except in cross winds). The car is nice but I hate the fact that the right turn signal does not always cancel, the dash rattles, several jerks when the care changes gears, and when slowing down, and a wiper switch that works just by touching it. Of course the Nissan dealer says all of this is normal for the Altima. Must be a Nissan corporate saying. I had a 1997 Ford Escort that was a lot better in quality and just as fun to drive.

Best in its class - 2003 Nissan Sentra
By dsifai - April 12 - 2:00 amHad the car for 5 months now. Extremely fun to drive. I must say that my expectations were to high for this car, consequently I was disappointed with the tourque of the engine. Handling and braking are its bests points. Fuel consumption and rear leg room are its draw backs. For the price I paid, there is nothing that beats it. It is a beautiful car and it passed the Canadian test... starts at -45 degrees C, eh!
