Overview & Reviews
Nissan was born in Japan, and like other marques from its homeland, the brand is known for crafting vehicles that place an emphasis on quality and reliability. The company's roster of products is broad, and includes sporty coupes, family sedans, minivans, trucks and SUVs.
The automaker got its start in 1933 as the Jidosha Seico Co., Ltd. The following year, this outfit merged with another Japanese manufacturer, and the new company was christened Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. Nissan initially marketed its vehicles under the Datsun brand, with the first Datsuns being built in 1934. Postwar, the brand made its presence felt worldwide, building a partnership with the U.K.-based Austin Motor Co. and establishing a presence in the United States. The first Datsuns hit American shores in 1958. Vehicles like the Datsun 1000 were based on Austin platforms.
The '60s witnessed Nissan's merger with Prince Motor Company, a union that helped the Asian manufacturer create more luxury-focused vehicles. In the U.S. it began offering its first vehicle styled for the U.S. market, the Datsun 510 sedan. By the end of the decade, Datsun had exported more than 1 million vehicles. Datsun rose to prominence in the 1970s on the popularity of its 240Z sports car. Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine, the car was coveted for its blend of style, performance and affordability. By the time the '70s drew to a close, the automaker's cumulative vehicle exports had surpassed the 10 million mark.
In 1981, Nissan shelved the Datsun name and began selling vehicles worldwide under the Nissan moniker. The '80s also saw Nissan's launch of a tuning division called Nismo for the development of performance-oriented vehicles and accessories. Nissan also brought its production to American shores, with the construction of a Georgia-based plant.
The early '90s saw Nissan's fortunes rise in the U.S. thanks to fun-to-drive cars like the 300ZX, Maxima and Sentra. But this trend didn't last long and by the late '90s Nissan's offerings consisted of anonymous vehicles. The company's future was uncertain.
After the turn of the new century Nissan bounced back, helped by a 1999 alliance with Renault that boosted the company's finances. Its redesigned Sentra and Altima boosted sales and consumer interest, as did new models like the 350Z sports car, Armada SUV and Titan pickup. Today the manufacturer is known for offering a wide range of well-regarded vehicles, including the popular Murano SUV, the incredible GT-R supercar and the all-electric Leaf.

Great first car - 2004 Nissan Altima
By How Now - May 1 - 2:00 amI was debating between the Civic and the Altima, and the Altima ultimately won. Ive only driven my Altima for a week, but Ive had a ton of fun doing so. My only complaint is that the interior materials are pretty crappy and the lighter colors make it look like its constructed of PC casings. I decided on the black interior, so this shortcoming is not as noticeable. I cant comment on the road noise issue because I always have the radio/CD blasting.

The Un-minivan Minivan - 2004 Nissan Quest
By hotfun96 - May 1 - 2:00 amIve driven minivans before, but none like the Nissan Quest. Its unbelievably large inside, with outrageous innovations and safety features. The performance is nearly sportscar like (salesman told me it was a version of the 350Z engine...believe it!!). Most importantly, my wife doesnt mind driving it at all...actually thinks it looks cool!!! The glass roof panels are awesome, and the interior is laid out like a luxury jetliner!! Thanks Nissan!! Youve got some great products lately!

- 2004 Nissan Quest
By J Harrison - May 1 - 2:00 amMy wife and I were so impressed with the styling, interior space, power and fuel economy, we didnt even look at the SUV we intended to buy. We chose the "S" trim level with rear sonar and 16" alloy wheels, which amazingly provides an abundance of standard features. The ride, handling and powerful engine make you feel like youre behind the wheel of a four door sports car. The cloth seats are vey soft and comfortable, especially the 2nd and 3rd row. The front and 2nd row captain chairs provides a "center aisle" which allows easy access to all seating areas.

The Wood Review - 2004 Nissan Quest
By Dale Wood - May 1 - 2:00 amThis is our third Nissan Quest van, we previously owned a 1996 and a 2002 model, all were reliable and good sources of family transportation. However, the 2004 model blow both of these older models away!

Lovin it every day - 2004 Nissan Titan
By clarence - May 1 - 2:00 amIve only owned it three weeks. Have 1500 miles on it. I love every minute in it. Its comfortable, quiet, has really positve handling, and enough power and pep to delight anyone unless they happen to be Big Daddy Don Garlits (sp). I average 15 mpg clutzing around town and back and forth to work. Took a 200 mile trip last weekend on state highways and got 17mpg. Im sure on a trip on interstate at steady speeds it will easily get the advertized 19mpg or better. A really great vehicle with plenty of room for me and my five gandkids. Bob

Big Inexpensive Fun - 2004 Nissan Xterra
By firecapt. - May 1 - 2:00 amIts as Big as the medium size SUV class vehicles, but it competes in the small/ compact SUV class @ the small SUV price. Well worth it!

Capable Off-Road Vehicle - 2004 Nissan Xterra
By Rome - May 1 - 2:00 amVery happy with the handling of this SUV both on and off-road. Steering is tight and responsive. Ive heard previous years had problems with this, but it seem Nissan has fixed the problem. I also feel the 180 HP V-6 has plenty of power for this size vehicle. Im very happy with responsivness of the engine. The 205 ft.lbs. of torque help acceleration too.
