This Year's Model Updates:

The 2009 Nissan Versa sedan is now available in value-leading 1.6 Base and 1.6 models powered by a new 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine.

Pros:
  • Good fuel economy, roomy interior with an adult-friendly backseat, comfortable ride, soft-touch interior surfaces, available Bluetooth.
Cons:
  • ABS inexplicably optional, flaccid handling, inconsistent build quality, ironically not as versatile as Honda Fit.

  • So far so good - 2009 Nissan Versa

Well, I traded in my previous vehicle of 6 years, a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. Do I really need to say more here? Ive only owned the car less than a week but this car is terrific. Its exactly what I was looking for. I was between this and the Honda Fit. The view from the Fits drivers seat felt like you were too far back-it just felt uncomfortable. Anyway, going from a vehicle with a mpg rating of 15/11 to 33/27 is certainly going to have an impact on my trips to the gas pump (or lack there of), not to mention how much less it will cost me per fill up. Im very pleased with its roominess, and the 1.8L CVT engine has more pep than most people will think. Spend the extra $$ for the SL if you can!

I am at 9000 miles at just 6 months. so you know I am driving this car. I drive 42 miles round trip to work and take trips when I can. I love this car. It is 90 degrees now and I am comfortable with the air. I have only driven it on setting three once or twice. I usually drive with it on the first setting after letting the hot air out. I have moved an office in it so I know it has plenty of space. It is very comfortable for anyone sitting in the back. I drove 211 miles at 85 miles without stopping and got good gas mileage and made really great time. This will get you where you want to go. It might not be the fanciest car out there but for the price. It is hard to beat. Artic Blue my fav!

For the price this car wont be equaled, any time soon. I have tested mileage, and got 32.5 city, 33.5 with both. I am sure of even higher mileage on highway. Any one looking for great quality comfort ride wont be disappointed! The sedan I now drive is the overall best car I have ever owned. I am 75, and have seen my share of cars. Try and buy.

  • Happy driver - 2009 Nissan Versa

We bought the Versa in 2009 in the cash for clunkers program in exchange for an Previa (which had served us very well for 18 years and 225,000 miles) and have done about 30,000 varied miles in the Nissan. It has been trouble free, pretty economical, easy to park in little spaces, a good load carrier and enjoyable to drive. Interior space is generous and the seats are very comfortable but the stowage space around the driver is a bit limited and there is not really anywhere to rest your elbows. Overall build quality is high but the plastic around the heater controls has started to rot. I also find the blue "cold engine" warning light unnecessary and at night easy to confuse with high beam.

  • Beautiful - 2009 Nissan Versa

Its been said that its goofy looking but I think its grown up looking inside and out. Its quiet and is a nice commuter car in comfort. Huge trunk you could fit a body in. Lots of style. Mines loaded with goodies from bluetooth, upgraded speakers, keyless entry and start, power everything. I love my new car.

  • LOVE my Versa, dont miss my Clunker! - 2009 Nissan Versa

Ok, so Ive only had it a week, but its been a great week. I drove everything before deciding on the Versa - it was the best equipped for the $, and has a solid feel, not like that "tin can little car" feel youd expect. If youre buying, spring for the SL with CVT - great mpg, and surprising zip factor. Got 29mpg on first tank. Also surprising - the roominess in the cabin. No cramped legs, no bumped heads. LOTS of storage. Parking is a breeze. Great price, great incentives, great warranty. I drive a LOT, and am very happy and expecting only to grow happier with my choice. Getting lots of compliments too...from "cool car!" to "adorable!" to "wow!" ... this is my second Nissan, wont be last!

I have been looking at autos of this style for the past month. Ive tested the Toyota Yaris, Chevy Aveo, Honda Fit, Kia Rio5, and the Hundai Elantra Touring. Some of them were a bit sportier in style and performance but mostly less than the Nissan. Roominess was and is a hands down to the Nissan. I absolutely despised the instrument layout in the Toyota I guess that I dont like having to look over for the speedo etc.. Price was also a factor with the Nissan hitting the right tone. For those who havent driven the Chevy Aveo be cautioned, if you have to make a left turn and even see oncoming traffic you will be better off to get out and push than to use the accelerator. So far very Happy!

  • Reliable, Fuel Efficient Car - 2009 Nissan Versa

Got the hatchback S model used. Doesnt have the most premium features (the SL model is more high end) which kept the original MSRP as the lowest out of any vehicle in the United States. My Versa came with hubcaps, power windows (some dont come with this standard), automatic transmission, no aux, no fog lamps, and a glitch in the TPMS sensor. Looking forward to getting different rims, stereo, and buying aftermarket fog lamps. It may be a boring car for some, if you dont upgrade the features, but it is great for hauling (fit a dresser with 6 drawers once, 90% of my home goods and clothing for moving out of the city, a mini fridge without folding the seats down) and is quite fuel efficient. It also comfortably fits passengers of most sizes. Also drove a Versa sedan while on my learning permit and was fun to drive, comfortable, and easy. It is a great budget vehicle for beginners and/or college students! Handling wise, it accelerates well like a jackrabbit, but steering and braking is a bit stiff and jolty compared to a Civic, although I have experienced this kind of steering in a Sentra of the same era as well. It takes a bit getting used to. As typical for most compact cars, it bounces around a bit over cracked and rough roads, which makes it a bit uncomfortable for me since I drive frequently through old and rural roads. Havent had any major problems so far, except the oil pan gasket is leaking, which is typical for a car of that age.

Ive owned this versa sedan Sport for about 7 months now, and its one of the best cars in every comparison from its class. I have test drove the other ones in its class and this is really the best. When I drive this car, I am 6.2ft and 260 pounds. This car dosent feel "cramped" when driving. The performace for this size car is excellent!! interior room is excellent!!! Overall this car is probally not gonna be traded in anytime soon! For any one who loves modifying, your gonna love it even more!! its even prewired for fog lights (SL and some S), and a rear spoiler!! come on, thats nice!! I was hesitent to buy a nissan, not knowing anything about them, but Im glad I did, and you would be too!!!

  • Cash for Clunkers Buy - 2009 Nissan Versa
    By -

I got the Versa Sedan 1.6 with 5 speed manual transmission and A/C with ABS through the "Cash for Clunkers" program. I wanted the least expensive car out there that had A/C and that an adult could fit into. Ive owned Nissans before and I know they make a better product. This car is made for practical adults. It has plenty of safety features and a lot of interior room. The truck is very roomy for vacation travel. For the kid in me, I do enjoy winding it up and going through the gears. It isnt a speed demon but I can get through traffic with ease if Im running late.
