Overview & Reviews
The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
- All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

IN THE MARKET TO BUY - 2002 Nissan Altima
By ELMOBLATCH - February 15 - 2:00 amI love the looks of the car...only 2 faults that I see are the cheap plastic interior parts & the goose neck arms on the trunk. Would like to see the price of anti-lock brakes reduced...Honda & Toyota charge half as much for this feature. ABS should be standard on a 20k car.

Excellent Package - 2002 Nissan Altima
By jblaze13 - February 5 - 10:00 amThis is a really nice car. The 4 cylinder has plenty of power for most needs. In comparison to a similarly equipped camry, you can see the difference in materials used on the interior. The camry has better interior materials. The light color for the readouts is a bit weird but you get used to it. Overall, this is an excellent vehicle. The leather seats are very comfortable. The ride is excellent, very similar to the camrys ride that has been hailed so much. Im very happy with my purchase.

After a year of ownership... - 2002 Nissan Altima
By PhurballDJ - January 24 - 2:00 am...I couldnt be happier. The Altima has given me no complaints thus far. The only times Ive been in the dealership have been for regular maintenance/oil changes. I love the engine -- plenty of punch for a 4- cylinder -- and the handling is great. And the amount of room in the interior and the trunk is terrific. Sure, they skimped a little on the interior materials, but they spent the money on the right stuff. This car truly is built for drivers!

Altima Leaves others In The DUST!!! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Stanmanh - December 7 - 8:20 pmNothing gives you more bang for the buck. The four cylinder is quick but the V-6 is lightning FAST and RESPONSIVE! There is a large difference in performance and features in the models. Gas mileage 22 city, 26 highway. The only part that I changed was the air filter. I replaced it with a K&N air filter ($40), this is a MUST HAVE since cars from the manufactur come with basic parts. The filter improved my overall gas mileage and added a few more horses thus a bit more torque.

Altima - 2002 Nissan Altima
By NissanAltima002 - November 17 - 10:00 amI was really looking for a car to haul a lot of stuff and I looked at the Altima and was compelled!!! The exterior is awesome thuoght the interior is very plasticy and cheap. IMO Nissan should redo the whole interior for all our sakes.

Nice car but engine problems - 2002 Nissan Altima
By km - November 14 - 1:40 amIve owned this car since 2002. Only owner and I took it back the dealership each time for a decent oil change service. For some reason unknown to us, our engine had to be replaced after about 50k miles. At first the dealership wanted to make us pay for it, but arguing with Corporate Nissan helped us get it for free (after warranty ran out.) Some other minor repairs but overall not a bad car except for the engine issue.
