Overview & Reviews
As the corporate twin to Ford's Fusion, the Mercury Milan shared much of that sedan's architecture, drivetrain specification and safety technology. Thanks to this mechanical heritage, the Milan provided nimble handling and adequate interior space for five adult passengers. The main difference between the two cars was that the Milan was more upscale in appearance and typically came with more standard features.
While the Milan may not be the first car that comes to mind when you think of family sedans, it's still a respectable choice for a used family sedan. In fact, its sporty handling put it a notch above the dynamic norm. The Milan also featured a sensible interior layout, and its price tended to be lower than those of traditional class leaders. As an alternative to other mainstream models, the Mercury Milan -- particularly in its later years -- is worth a look.
Most Recent Mercury Milan
The Mercury Milan debuted for the 2006 model year. Production ended with the demise of the Mercury brand for 2011. Originally, the Milan was motivated by either a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 160 horsepower or a 221-hp 3.0-liter V6. Four-cylinder models were paired with a five-speed manual transmission with an option for a five-speed automatic, while the V6 models came only with a six-speed automatic. For the final two years, the Milan gained a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 175 horsepower or a 240-hp, 3.0-liter V6. A six-speed manual was standard for the four-cylinder, with a six-speed auto being optional. The V6 again had the six-speed auto. Most Milans you'll encounter will be front-wheel drive, though Mercury did offer all-wheel-drive versions of the V6 for every year except '06.
There were two trim levels: base and Premier. The base model rode on 16-inch wheels and included items like air-conditioning, an MP3-compatible CD stereo, a six-way power driver seat, a split-folding rear seat, cruise control, full power accessories and keyless entry. Antilock brakes, front seat-mounted side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags were also standard for every year starting in 2007. Stability control, however, wasn't available for the Milan until 2009. The Premier's main draws were its 17-inch wheels, leather upholstery and dual-zone automatic climate control. Major optional features included a sunroof, an upgraded audio system, a navigation system and a 12-speaker Sony sound system.
For 2010, there were major changes that significantly altered the perception of the Milan. Although the original cabin was nicely constructed, it was rather plain-looking and its controls were antiquated -- both in appearance and usability. The standard stereo unit in particular wasn't the best fit for the Sync voice-control system that debuted for '08. The 2010 Milan update also included freshened styling, revised suspension and steering tuning and the more powerful engines. If your budget allows for it, we certainly recommend trying to get a 2010 or '11 Milan.
On the road, four-cylinder models provided adequate power while the V6 offered much-improved acceleration, though the V6 was still down on power when pitted against the competition. Stomping the throttle for more power resulted in a rattly and raucous racket with either engine choice. The steering was also pretty numb, though overall the Milan handled pretty well for a family sedan. Build quality was also generally solid. Up front, the seats were well-shaped and supportive, and all but the tallest adults should be content riding in the Milan's spacious backseat.

Mercury Milan - 2006 Mercury Milan
By cheryl - October 14 - 9:06 pmI fell in love with this car when I saw the commercials. It is an awesome car with few issues regarding warranty. The brake issues were fixed immediately. All in all the car itself is top of the line.

Very satified - 2007 Mercury Milan
By daveo - October 11 - 8:46 pmHaving owned Ford Tarus before I decided to try a Mercury. The V-6 has plenty of power and when you want to get going at Interstate speeds just kick it and the motor answers back. The ride is excellent. Seats are very comfortable. The exterior appearance has a very sporty look. This Mercury is not your Fathers Mmercury. I love just driving the car each and every time I set behind the wheel. The V-6 24 valve engine is very lively. What a fun car.

What a car!! - 2006 Mercury Milan
By DJ - October 11 - 9:20 amI was thinking about buying a used Audi, but by chance we came across Milan. We went to dealership to check it out. As soon as we saw it and checked the interior, we knew it was it. The car is stylish, loaded with features, and great price. It drives like a sports car, and feels like a luxury car. Worth every penny!!

ROCK SOLID! - 2008 Mercury Milan
By lee - October 2 - 11:23 pmMy 2008 Milan AWD looks sharp in black w/ spoiler and 2 tone leather interior.Has all the options except navigation.I never had to do anything, not even put air in the tires except w/ oil changes.Takes a curve at 75 mph on the parkway w/o any problem. Getting 30 mpg if going 70 and under.Fun to drive, handles well, love the little things I used to have in my Lincoln like the keypad on the door, compass, auto headlights, calculated mpg etc.but for a lot less money than a Lincoln. My friend has a Lexus 250 IS Awd that cost 10,000 more, has less features, plain interior and has had problems to boot!Go Ford and keep up the good work!

Nice Car - 2010 Mercury Milan
By JofPA - September 25 - 11:03 amReally like the leather interior and Sync feature. Got the 202a rapid spec and love the backup camera. Traded in a V6 and was a little worried about pick-up/power - but I am quite satisfied with that. Overall very nice car.

Bought a used Milan - 2006 Mercury Milan
By jr - September 13 - 7:50 pmI bought a 2006 Milan in August 2008. The car looks good and is comfortable inside. Road noise on stock tires is too loud on most roads. The ride is harsh with sharp jolts on rough roads. I thought it would be smoother and quieter than it is. The automatic trans, when manually shifted to a lower gear, shifts into low at 40 mph, quite a jolt. Also the radio, for no reason will increase volume to an uncomfortable level sometimes when I hit the cruise control to decrease the speed.

An Awesome American Car - 2006 Mercury Milan
By Jim Mueller - September 4 - 8:03 amI am leasing a 4 cylinder automatic. I thought performance might be doggy with the "four" but I am blown away by the great acceleration and crisp handling. The ride quality is comfortable and quiet. The standard music system is excellent. The trip computer is very usefull. Plus theres lots of compartments and "cubby-holes". Theres plenty of room for a 6-4" dude like me. The lease deal I got was an incredible value. I highly recommend the Milan!

Great car - 2007 Mercury Milan
By rav4man - August 12 - 10:00 amLook at the prices at the Merc/Ford dealers as these come off leases, fantastic deals. I have the leather light tan and black combo. Front seats are a little uncomfortable, seats do need to be higher. Did new rotors and ceramic brakes at 53,000 miles, now rides perfect. Climate controls excellent. Road noise very low. Excellent ride on the highway.MPG is 28 highway 23 city. Transmission 6 speed automatic nicest tranny I ever felt. Shifts silky smooth. Get the 6 cyl, 4 is underpowered. Do check out the Lincoln mkz which is the same car also, interior is ultra excellent on that ride
