  • Best car I ever owned - 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis

Best car I have ever owned. I fill the tank with gas, change the oil every 3 or 4 months, absolutely no problems. Although my selling dealing has been a pain, the price was good though. Well there is one minor problem which they have so far refused to fix and Im talking to Ford directly about that. They tell me they will fix it, but when? Its already out of warrenty and still promise, but have not done it.

I bought this car with 85K miles on it because I wanted size and safety. That is what I got. It has been very reliable so far, except the lighting control module went out. So, my interior lights go on and off all day by itself. I had to take all the light bulbs out of the interior of the car or my battery would run dead. Also, the keyless entry doesnt work. It gets exactly 18 MPG with combined city/hwy driving. Thats too bad considering gas is not $2.00+ per gallon. The car is very confortable, but score a "zero" in the fun factor rating. So, if size and safety is important to you, this is a good car for you.

good quality love the large room capacity. Gas milage is much better than expected and is better than many smaller cars.

  • 1999 Gran Marquis - A Great Ride! - 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis

I have had this car since it was new. The ONLY things I have done to it are tires, belts, hoses at regular intervals and a new battery. I have had gas mileage as high as 29.8 MPG at turnpike speed of 80 MPH. Dependability, great gas mileage and a luxury ride! I have bought another one! Consumers Reports Magazine rates the 1999 as a Best Buy used car. I agree.

  • Mercury Grand Marquis -- not perfect - 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis

the accessories are very unreliable. My car has been back to the dealer about 12 times in the 3 years Ive owned. Bad speed control; bad keyless entry pad; bad AC (twice); windshield wipers have been worked on at least 6 times (replaced 5 times) and they still stutter across the windshield. Almost no storage room in passenger compartment. When drinks are in the drink holders, you cant access the AC controls. Rides rough for such a large car. Inadequate leg room in the back.

I am a bit younger than the average Grand Marquis owner (37)however I needed a car that could swallow a lot of highway miles effortlessly and this vehicle does just that. Bought an LS with the performance package (alloys, dual exhaust, digital dash)two years old with 28K, just rolled 75K and other than front brakes and an oil change every 5-6k it has been excellent. I recently developed a small oil leak at the head gasket however I believe this is a fluke for this model as it appears rare.

  • Great big road car! - 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis

I bought my LS used 2 yrs ago at 70k and now have 130k with no repairs whatsoever. I love the gas mileage - Im getting 24.6 summer and 22.6 winter with about 60%hwy and 40%city driving. Even at our mile-high, theres plenty of power in the small V8 to accelerate up hills. I easily and inexpensively bought a Ford OEM radio/CD player to replace the std cassette player. I found the drivers seat didnt fit me well until after I took out the lumbar support and put more foam in the upper back and seat bottom. I also found that I have to brake with my left foot or the awkward right leg position causes pain. Im 62" and 270lbs.

  • Love the older ones vs the new ones - 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis

I have a 1999 grand marquis. I have had it for a year. I have had to change air springs, fuel pump twice, fuel pressure regulator, shocks, tires, ball joints, window motor, and intake manifold its my own dam fault I buy car as is. But, it has more power than most cars. Its fast and rides so good. Im gonna get a 2002 model. But the Mercury will be the only car I own. I wish I had traction con, abs 2. The 02 has everything I want and need. I hate gmc and all imports. Ford all the way. Im n process of buying a 2002 marquis. Thanks 2 all yall out there.

  • Almost perfect, but Ford went backwards - 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis
    By -

I switched from a 1993 Grand Marquis to a 1999. Quiet a step backwards. Not only is the gas mileage "worse" (EPA rating and in real world), many little items dont make sense. The AutoLamp feature is nervous, comes on in shady places already. The rear defrost button is invisible while steering, located on the left. No cupholders in the rear. Cupholders in the front block climate control. The ride is almost perfect. Safe, reliable and not too expensive to maintain. Overall, a good vehicle.

  • Great Car no problems - 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis
    By -

Brought it brand new in 1999. Currently have 150,587 miles. Had the intake manifold replaced and recently a tire rod and now on its 4 set of tires. Otherwise the car has been reliable, comfortable safe ride. A/C works well still cold. My only concern is the stability of the under carriage on rough rods. the vehicle sometimes feels as if it loses contact with the road surface at highway speed. Mileage is appx 250 miles to a tankful highway/city driving. Also the fender above the front tires is rusting. Seems to be a common problem with this car.
