Model Overview:

The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class may be one of the least expensive models the German company produces, but you wouldn't suspect that by the way this small crossover looks, feels and drives. Close one of the doors or drive over a set of railroad tracks and you can't help but feel the sense of over-engineered solidity that permeates every inch of this compact luxury SUV. Indeed, it's this innate Benz quality that sets the GLK apart from the other crossovers in its class.

However, there are now more competitors in this class than ever before. Most match the GLK in terms of available equipment and performance, yet also offer a roomier backseat and cargo area. As such, the GLK probably isn't the most family-friendly choice. Even so, that unmistakable Mercedes-Benz engineering and craftsmanship makes the GLK-Class worth a look.

Current Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class is a five-passenger premium crossover SUV offered in two trim levels: the gasoline-powered GLK350 and the diesel GLK250 Bluetec variant.

The GLK350 is powered by Mercedes' familiar 3.5-liter V6 that develops 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard. The GLK250 Bluetec utilizes a 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that makes 200 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, along with the seven-speed automatic. Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is optional on the GLK350 and standard on the GLK250 Bluetec.

GLKs come standard with dual-zone climate control, power front seats, leatherette upholstery, Bluetooth and a six-speaker audio system. Optional luxuries include a panoramic sunroof, a navigation system, a rearview camera and a premium surround-sound audio system. Buyers can also opt for rear-seat DVD entertainment, full leather seating, bi-xenon headlights, rear parking sensors and a multitude of cosmetic appearance options.

Drive the Mercedes-Benz GLK350 back to back with a C350 sedan and you're bound to notice similarities. The steering feel and ride quality are remarkably similar, and the GLK's interior has many identical controls. Both have impressive materials and fit and finish. To go along with its blocky exterior styling, however, the look of the GLK's interior is more austere and upright. In back, rear seat space is surprisingly good for two adults, though getting in and out can be a squeeze. Maximum cargo capacity is noticeably less than what's provided by most other luxury competitors.

On the road, the GLK's V6 delivers smooth and snappy performance, with 0-60-mph sprints right at the 6-second mark. While not the equal of more agile rivals like the BMW X3 or Infiniti EX35, the GLK350's handling is certainly capable and confidence-inspiring around corners. The GLK250 Bluetec brings the segment's first diesel engine and takes about 2 seconds longer to hit 60 mph. The obvious trade-off is significantly increased fuel economy: The Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec is rated at 28 mpg combined, versus 21 combined for the GLK350 4Matic.

The GLK's ride is firm in typical Germanic fashion, but it absorbs rutted bumps easily and masters even rough highways without the slightest hint of harshness or chatter. In such conditions, the cabin remains impressively quiet, with very little wind or road noise.

Used Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Models
The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class was introduced for 2010. In that first year, the GLK lacked the current car's driver's knee and front side hip airbags. The AMG Sport package was also not available. The 2013 model year saw the debut of the GLK250 Bluetec diesel, along with an increase in the V6's power output (previously 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque) and improved fuel economy. Other changes that year included a slight styling update inside and out, an automatic stop-start system (that turns off the engine when the vehicle stops to save fuel) and enhanced electronics and infotainment features.

The best looking, full of fun features and comfort I have ever seen in a vehicle.

  • Love it! - 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class

I love the driving this vehicle. Definitely the new generation of SUV from MB. I like the classic design (means wont be out of fashion). Impressive torque, and of course all the bells and whistles which step-up to the standards.

  • my thoughts on the GLK - 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class

So far so good! The car has a handsome exterior and interior. Its nice inside, but not cozy like an E class. I dont mind however because you cant have it all. The acceleration is a little bit of a disappointment, but I can deal with it because the handling makes up for it. The car feels fairly tight in turns, smooth, quiet like youre in your own world, and solid. Oh, and the headlights look pretty nice even without having the bi-xenons. That was a pleasant surprise. Overall its a good value for being a baby Benz.

  • Solid little trucklette - 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class

I wanted a vehicle that was small enough to fit in my garage, has strong towing capability for its size, can handle snow and some dirt roads. The GLK250 was at the high end of the price range I was considering, but the build quality reflects the price. Great seats, great engine, great transmission. Minus points: Small cargo area (but if the vehicle was longer it wouldnt fit in my garage). Upright windshield results in a bit of wind noise. Handling feels "heavy" at first but you get used to it and at German-type highway speeds (above 80 mph) it seems tuned just right.

  • Great But Not Perfect - 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class

Remember its a baby Benz SUV and not a sports car.But the 20"SportWheelOption/Suspension makes it feel like it could be.Make sure yours comes with the Pirellis and not the Dunlops. The Dunlops wear out twice as fast.Steering may be a little too tight/it fails to re-center smoothly. Engine/Tranny are outstanding.Interior is great up front/too tight in rear. Some interior panels dont line- up well. Get the BiXenon/side illum option if you drive at night. Do get MudFlaps and CargoTray.Ours came std with the CargoCover. Paint does have some orange-peel.Fit on some exterior panels not even and a bit wide for a Benz. RoadHazIns.not worth it. Otherwise this intro Benz SUV is quite stunning...bye!

  • Fell Apart - 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class

Still a nice looking vehicle. Has the chrome 20" wheels updated headlights and door sill lights. But... @60,000 Miles, Repairs needed Differential leaks $4600.00 New Motor Mounts $2600.00 Trans axle Leak $1500.00 Seats are not real leather and have fallen apart. Uses a lot of gas and the tires are lasting about 30k.

  • Great Car , Better than expected - 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
    By -

This car has exceeded my expectations. It looks so much better in person, than in the pics. This car turns heads. The car drives smoothly and is quiet. Steering feel is ok. Rides over pot holes well. Mine is fully loaded. I love it. The car feels bullet proof, and extremely well built. Everything so far works beautifully. The phone bluetooth sync took some time to get setup (Hint: Remove the space in your phone ID) and I synced my phonebook by sending vcard info. Multimedia package is a must have. Lighting Package is amazing for the money. I have the leather package, its worth the extra in my opinion. I wasnt a fan of the MBTEX. This is my first Mercedes. I can see why they are so desirable.

  • Best car so far! - 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
    By -

Recently traded in my 2 year old Infiniti G35 (which I loved) -- just not a convenient car to shuttle our 5 & 6 year old around. First Benz for our family. So far I absolutely love it. I thought Id miss the power performance of the G (which I do a little), but this truck is surprisingly nimble -- much more than the Acura MDX my wife drives. The build quality & solid feel is absolutely exceptional -- better than any car Ive driven. On the road, it drives remarkably similar to a sedan (albeit with the comfortable feeling of sitting up higher).

  • Never Again for German Engineering - 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
    By -

Steering column will not adjust up or down. This is a power titt and the dealer says we have to pay to maintain the lubrication. Ive been a service director for Honda,Toyota and Acura. Without a doubt the German engineers need to visit Japan. We have to remove most of the front fender to replace a headlight bulb.....absolutely ridiculous. Four words for this car....For Sale...Never Again. Back to Acura and Infinity.

  • I loved my car - 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
    By -

I enjoyed every moment I owned this car. I bought it certified pre owned with 27 000 miles and drove it with just routine maintenance and regular synthetic oil changes every 5000 miles. Only had brakes and totors and tires to replace which is normal. at about 130000 miles I had to replace intake manifold because my engine light went on at a cost of about $1300.00. Soon after that the engine light goes on again on and off for a month or two. I had it checked and mechanic said maybe the computer has to rest itself after the repair. Being a patient person It sounded feasable that this could have been the problem ans so I continued to drive the vehicle. The check engine light keeps coming on and the code said that the Catalytic converter is bad. I priced the Cats and they cost $1800.00 apiece and there are tow in a GLK. Thats $3600.00 just to buy them and then the labor to install them. At 145000 miles I wasnt going to put another 5000.00 into the GLK. It was a 2010. But I loved this car and other than the Cats needing replacement the car was in mint condition. I didnt want any other type car because I loved this one so much. So, I traded it in for another 2014 GLK certified pre owned and love it to death. More technology and more features and i still am a GLK fan. Hopefully the CATS wont go on this one. Fingers crossed
