This Year's Model Updates:

The RX-8 is an all-new car for 2004. Its arrival marks the return of Mazda's rotary engine to the U.S. market. Priced less than Nissan's 350Z, the RX-8 also offers four doors and a usable backseat.

Pros:
  • Low base price, agile handling yet still comfortable enough for daily use, room for four in a pinch.
Cons:
  • Option packages can get expensive, iffy interior ergonomics.

  • Lives up to the Hype - 2004 Mazda RX-8
    By -

Awesome car that lives up to the hype. It really will seat 4 adults in comfort. I am 6 1" and I can drive this car AND have car seats for both of my kids strapped into the back while my wife rides in the passenger seat. I wouldnt want to drive cross country like this but it works for the occasional evening out or other times when I need to haul the kids. Much has been said about the mileage and oil comsumption but after the last computer software upgrades from Mazda, the mileage has gotten better and the oil consumption has dramatically improved. Mazda is doing a really good job of taking customer feedback and using it to improve the car.

  • What a car!!!! - 2004 Mazda RX-8

I have had my RX-8 for around 6 weeks - the first one in Ft Worth. It really gets some double takes, and is a blast to drive. As a form RX-7 owner, I have found this to be an improvement over an already great car. The real bonus for me is that I can get the whole family on board.

After having an RX-7 20 years ago, I was excited when Mazda introduced the RX-8. I purchased my RX-8 in September and it has far exceeded my expectations. This car is fantastic! The handling and acceleration are everything you can hope for in a sports car. The design and styling are sharp. The only warning is the pesky issue of short trips. As I found out, you cant just move the car around your driveway without properly warming it up or taking it around the block or the plugs get spoiled and have to be replaced.

  • MY8 - 2004 Mazda RX-8

I have owned several import cars and this is the only one that Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE (young, old) say WOW. I wouldnt let my 19 yr old take it without me I went out and bought her another car. Maybe that is why my license plate says MY8 on it......

  • Fun vehicle - 2004 Mazda RX-8

This vehicle was purchased as a "just for fun" vehicle for me and my wife. I was an owner of the old rx-7 back in the late 70s early 80s. This car is all you would want from a "fun car." It is not an economical car. It requires high octane gas, regular oil checks, and expensive tires. It drives and handles just as you would expect a sports car to drive and handle. It has a six speed transmission that adds fun and power to the rotary engine. This is a wonderful vehicle.

  • Dragon-Slaying Machine! - 2004 Mazda RX-8

I have taken the car on "the dragon" aka Deals Gap (www.tailofthedragon.com) and had 2 strangers making movies of me! Thia car handles like a bullet on rails! The dragon has 318 curves in 11 miles ao believe me, I KNOW how these cars handle! Also, the attention you get driving this car is unbeleiveable.....Not too many people wanna run you in this car, they know better, esp. around corners. Mazda issued a service repair order to replace the oil pan, so my dealer did it and all is well now. If you want a true high-revving sports car, then look no further........get an RX-8.

  • 3rd time around - 2004 Mazda RX-8
    By -

after owning a 1982 rx7 gsl and a 1992 rx1, my new rx8 is the best of the three. Granted, my 1992 was a VERY FAST car but it rode like a truck. My 1982 was fanatastic by the 2004 has the looks, the price and the driveability. Thumbs up to the engineers!

  • Great Car - 2004 Mazda RX-8

This car is very entertaining, draws a crowd, handles beautifully, is very quick, and seats four. WHat is not to like?

  • Know What Youre Getting - 2004 Mazda RX-8
    By -

One test drive and I was sold and have never regretted buying it.... BUT Mazda is not clearly notifying new buyers about potential problems from flooding/fouling plugs when shutting down cold. This is a real problem if you valet park where they have to move your car, or if you forget and back the car out of the garage without letting it fully warm up. NEW ROTARY BUYERS BEWARE Make sure you ask the salesman about this.
