This Year's Model Updates:

The RX-8 is an all-new car for 2004. Its arrival marks the return of Mazda's rotary engine to the U.S. market. Priced less than Nissan's 350Z, the RX-8 also offers four doors and a usable backseat.

Pros:
  • Low base price, agile handling yet still comfortable enough for daily use, room for four in a pinch.
Cons:
  • Option packages can get expensive, iffy interior ergonomics.

A great car all around. I haul two kids every day (9,15) and soccer practice equipment and school bags and still have plenty of room. Try that in a boxter or Z4!! Suspension is incredible - can take corners without any sway at 30 over posted and yet it handles speed bumps very well. Kudos to Mazda. Only thing so far is lower gas mileage than spec - 15-17 in town depending on whether you let it rev or not. May improve as the engine breaks in further. Get all kinds of thumbs up and stares and waves as I drive around. Quiet, smooth, zoom,zoom......

  • Made the right choice - 2004 Mazda RX-8

After test driving the Nissan 350Z and the Subaru WRX Sti, I drove and ultimately picked the RX8 because of its forgiving yet fun ride and handling. I love this cars ability to engage my need to drive it at its limit and feel extremely comfortable doing so.

  • Mileage? One word: Regular - 2004 Mazda RX-8

I thought the gas mileage was a real concern. I almost gave up on it. Then I found out that it takes regular. 18mpg using regular will cost me the equivalent as 20mpg using premium in my RSX-S.

My new RX-8 is a blast to drive. It handles like no other car Ive ever driven. Driving curvey roads has never been so much fun.

  • I love this car. - 2004 Mazda RX-8

Im an 18 year old that just graduated high school, and im in the military. I purchased this car loving it at first sight. I got it for a great deal. Yes i paid for it, its in my name not my parents. I get about 24-25 highway 18-20 city. I shift between 3-4 but i heard its good to be hard once in awhile so ill take it up to 6-7.Premium gas (93 octane) always. Also good to rev to 3 before shutting down. Also i warm it up for 1-2 mins and hold it at 3 for 5 seconds. Its a great car, lots of fun.
