Best value I could find - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By moleman - May 12 - 10:00 amI basically agree with most of the other reviews: the PR5 is fun to drive (w/ 5 spd), especially around a city where you can dart around quickly, and the 6 CD changer w/ 6 speakers is so good it makes me love music even more. Mileage is OK, probably average for this size car. The seats are spacious and comfortable for all but the largest individuals, and the interior layout is quite pleasing. Previous car was 98 Civic w/ no options so I suppose Im more easily impressed than others.

By mom2maniacs - May 12 - 10:00 amWOW! I am so impressed by this car and would more then recomend it to others. The handling is great, it has alot of pickup, and a great stereo. Also, its small sleak and sporty yet roomy enough for 5. Go buy one!!!

I cant believe how reliable this car is - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By mikeyp70 - May 4 - 6:50 pmI now have 85k on this car. I change the oil every 3-5k miles and change the antifreeze and air filter at the recommended intervals. Thats it. Changed the brakes (pads only) at 60,000 miles. Thats right, original rotors. I had to change my last GMs at 20k because they warped (under-designed). Kuhmo tires only cost $68 and I put 50k+ on my last set vs the original tires without much change in performance or ride quality. This is a great car and the 28-30 mpg couple with low maintenance costs makes it very economical. And oh yeah... its fun. Nimble and sporty.

My favorite car - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By ffffurrrr - April 8 - 11:03 amThis is probably the 5th car Ive owned over the years (I tend to keep them for 8 years or so), the 2nd Mazda, and my favorite. Its fun to drive, gets reasonably good mileage, and turns and parks easily. Ive not had any issues with it, my only gripe being that it came with high-performance tires that cost major dollars to replace. But since thats the only money besides regular maintenance that Ive had to shell out on it, I guess I cant complain too much. :)

THE BEST CAR EVER!!! - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By beckslacks - April 4 - 2:00 amI love this car. Every time I ride in someone elses car, it makes me appreciate the incredibly comfortable seats of the Protege5. My car runs perfectly, drives smoothly, takes turns like a champ and is just really fun to drive. I have the standard, which shifts like a pro, although Ive heard that the automatic is a little doggedly. I love my little red Mazda, it totally rules. And my gas milage it wonderful, I work a half hour from work I only refill it an average of once per week.

Its all that and more... - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By Defens - March 25 - 10:00 amAbsolute joy to drive. Solid feeling, comfortable and responsive. Not "underpowered" at all. Plenty of "ooomph" to merge and pass, more horses would just get you in trouble :) Fit & finish is superb. Materials used convey a expensive feel. Just at 32mpg on first 2 tanks (80% highway driving). Loads of standard features. Plenty of room for my 65", 300# bulk in front OR rear seats. You wont be disappointed with this car.

By Rbranx - March 25 - 10:00 amIve giving up on the SUV to get a efficent car which has perfect gas mileage for the money. Protege5 is dependable, and handles curves very well, my kids love it. This car is the best car for money. Reliable! If you dont want to make frequent stops to the gas pump the Protege5 will be ideal car for you. Ron

Almost perfect--except transmission! - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By HB - March 12 - 5:16 pmBought my P5 brand new and loved it up til now. At 110k miles the overdrive gear went out now I have to buy a new transmission. All maint done like clockwork, drive like an old lady, so I dont get it. Mazda reliability has always been good. Most say I must have got a bad transmission or early mechanical failure due to wear. I do put about 18k miles/yr commuting, but geez, this is not acceptable. Toyota 4wd truck w/ 140k and NO problems!

PR5 a great buy - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By TeeGee22 - March 11 - 10:00 amJust bought the PR5 and its great to drive. Very tight and holds the road extremely well. The power is fine unless maybe you want to race. The 5 speed shifts smooth and easy. Cant beat the 4 wheel dics either. Paid $15,540.00 out the door. Only extras were mats, cargo net, and perimeter shock sensor alarm. Best buy for the money.... looked all the rest... honda, toyota, kia, etc.....
