Best in Class - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By RJBJAB - May 7 - 2:00 amThe initial quality was flawless. It has more interior room than any other car in its price class. It handles likes your driving on rails due to the precise steering, tight suspension and 16 inch tires. The automatic/manual transmission makes it so fun to drive!! It can go from 40-70 mph faster than any small car we have ever driven. The road noise is far less than our Saturn SW2 and is more agile and the turning radius is incredible. The visibility is good because your not sitting on the floor boards like the Saturn. It also has a standard 48000 mile 5yr bumper to bumper warranty. We are VERY happy with our purchase!!

Great Midlife Cure - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Wes W - May 4 - 2:00 amAbout 20 years ago I had a 76 Ford Capri from Germany. Havent found anything thats as fun to drive until now. This car holds the road very well and almost seems to dare you to take that turn a little faster. It has cured me need for a motorcycle for now.

p5 over 1 year and 25,000 miles later... - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By p5 in Virginia - April 17 - 2:00 amWe are a 1-car family and rely on our p5 for everything. We have taken 2 1000+ mi trips in this car and a 2500+ mile trip. All with the baby. Still like the taught suspension and great steering feel. Fun to drive. Easy to drive. Can get around slower traffic with ease. Very stable and safe at higher speeds. Interior is squeak and rattle-free and materials are holding up well. Easy to stay comfy driving long distances. Still get plenty of "cool car" comments! Needs more power and less noise. No mechanical problems. We will probably keep it for 4 more years or up to 2 kids. Over 2 kids, shut up and get a minivan.

A great car - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By johnjj - March 19 - 2:00 amThis car is so fun. It seems so perfectly designed between form and function and economy. It is the funnest car you can find to drive. Unreal response and pepness. The seats are really comfortable and the interior is laid out perfectly. The 4 cylinder motor has plenty of power and the car has excellent pickup throughout the power band. The 2003 drops the luggage rack and adds a 100watt subwoofer that mounts on the spare tire! The stereo is awsome for a stock system! I say again that this car is one of the coolest cars made today!

Great Car - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By JOHN LEE - March 18 - 10:00 amI own a muscle car (Mustang 68 Fastback) but needed a new daily driver. Tested the Vibe, Matrix, and Corolla. Car handles the turns almost as the car I sold 240SX Nissan. Read all the reviews by the mags as well as USA Todays ... the car has more than adequate power. Can handle highway inclines without downshifting or losing power like the cars I tested. Matrix with the 180 horses doesnt have the torque power at the 30- 70 range of the Protege 5. Plus, I didnt want a car that gets its power at 6,000 rpms ... too noisy. Ill take the Mustang for that, plus thats much faster.

Nice little hatch - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Kenny - March 14 - 9:40 pmI dont like those common small cars. It was made in Japan and not as common as other Japanese sedans. I test drove the sedan but didnt like the seats and ride. I bought a Protege5 because it had more comfortable seats and and gave me a little bit of "road feel". The driving experience of the hatch was more closed to my old Saab (Of course the Saab was better). I dont understand why people dont like hatchback. It doesnt have typical noise from a hatchback. The car performs quite good in the city but it is quite noisy at highway speed. The autostick stick is fun but it needs a 5-speed auto instead of a 4-speed auto.
