A great looker and handles the road awesome. Comfortable seats and has enough legroom and headroom(even with sunroof). A couple minor gripes are that there are no cupholders in the rear and the ones in the front are not very deep. Could use some pockets on back of front seats. No choice in the interior colors. Some people complain about lack of power. Seems enough for me especially going from 0 - 40.

I am the Fleet Manager at a Mazda dealership in Seaside california. I have so many customers asking me to get this car into inventory that I cant keep up sometimes. It targets a broad audience and handles like nothing else.

  • LOVE MY P5 - 2003 Mazda Protege5

I bought my 2003 P5 new...have had for 10 years now. It has 287,000 miles! I plan to get as many miles as I possibly can out of her. It is a manual trans and Ive kept the timing belt replaced at regular intervals and have only ever used synthetic oil. The thermostat quit once but was a very simple fix. The headlight have always been a headache. I used to would have to replace them seemingly constantly. I love driving this car and dont feel like I will ever like another car as much as I like this one...unless it was a suped up chevelle or something :) cheap car, cheap on gas & fun to drive.

  • Great Car - 2002 Mazda Protege5

I am probably one of the few people to put this many miles on a car in just a few years. I have 180,000 miles on it and the car never quits. Other than basic maintenance I have had only two problems in all my miles. 1) Power steering pump started leaking and 2) rear brake caliper froze (probably due to Chicago winters). The engine is still strong. The wear ability of the products used to build this car is superior. The car interior still looks very close to new. I can’t say enough about this car. If youre looking for a reliable, fun to drive, fuel efficient all around do everything car, look no further. The problem will be trying to find one. They only made them in model year 2002 and 2003.

I have owned quite a few vehicles and this is one of the best Ive owned. Its comfortable with a good amount of sportiness in it. There are a lot of stuff I can add to it to make it look better and have more fun with it. Very good car with not many problems. Have driven 16 hours straight with it about 5 times with no problems. Couldnt ask for better unless it could fly.

  • Fully Functional - 2003 Mazda Protege5

Purchased the Automatic with Sportronic shifting due to its relatively close feel to driving a real manual transmission ( also allows my wife to drive the car). Has good acceleration and muscle for a car with only 130 hp. Fully functional whether hauling around people, dogs or furniture. I am a bit frustrated by the fact that the gas mileage is about 5 mpg less than posted for both city and highway. Fun to drive. Zoom Zoom!

I love my Protege5, I got so many complements from peolple on the street. Its definately a head turning car. It is so fun to drive and performes well in the rain and snow. The interior is very spacious, and passangers in the back seat have ample leg room. My dogs love it too.
