  • My 5th Mazda Vehicle Lifetime - 2003 Mazda Protege5

Been looking at PR5s for right package (automatic, ABS/Side Impact Air, leather) for 3 months. Wanted silver, teenage girls wanted yellow, settled for red. Got $2.5k rebate, $1.5k Ford "S-Plan" discount and $1k dealer cash. Acted decisively as loaded PR5 tough to find. Am biased on Mazda since I own 95 Protege LX, 03 MPV ES, and this PR5. Owned 86 RX-7 GLX and 93 MPV. Kids love moonroof and I endorse wind deflector. Handled stiff like racing car til I lowered tire pressure from 45psi to 35 psi. Still handles well though. Engine is strong with only driver; okay when you have 4 kids too. Too soon to evaluate MPG, but guestimate it about 20 in city.

I bought in Nov 2002 and have driven my car on long hauls a lot... despite low-proifle tires it rides well, handles beautifully and only needs a good exhaust system to make it perfect! wish the gearshift action was tighter and had more power, but aside from that, no complaints at all! dealers do gouge a bit on oil changes, so Im looking for a good mechanic instead

  • Very Very Happy - 2002 Mazda Protege5

Im so happy with my Red Protege 5. Many of my friends have Civics, and they feel and look so dull by comparison. Its a fun car to drive, and very versatile car for urban folks like myself. My only complaints are minor, even downright silly, see below. I agonized over the decision, but opted for an automatic instead of a 5 speed. Its still fun as heck to drive though, and the transmission seems to always shift exactly when it should.

I love the car to death. I found it handles great, gets great gas mileage, and is lots of fun to drive. This car is also very practical, makes going to work almost fun.

  • Excellent car, aggressive styling - 2003 Mazda Protege5

Awesome vehicle. Looked at the civic, corolla and finally the proteze 5. spent weeks on deciding civic or corolla, but on the first visit to the mazda dealer, loved the car and bought it an hour later. Even my kids love it and will not ride in the jeep anymore. This one drives good and it is really fun driving around in the city. Handles tight turns very well.

  • Fun, this is it!!! - 2003 Mazda Protege5

I bought the vivid yellow, auto with moonroof. Car gets lots of looks on the road. Car is not as comfortable as Id like or fuel efficient, but the price was right with the rebates. I figure I couldnt wait until December for the Mazda 3 to come out.

  • Excellent automobile - 2003 Mazda Protege5

Owning my pro5 has been a wonderfull experience. This car is the third Mazda I have owned, and the second Protege. As with the previouse two this has had virtually no issues or problems with the exception of a rattle that was taken care of at the dealer. It is as much fun to drive as the first generation RX7 I had in the past, and it has a much more people friendly rear seat than any other simmilar small wagon I compared it to. In a nut shell it always gets looks and makes me smile the minute I turn the key.

  • Lets Keep This a Secret - 2003 Mazda Protege5

Ive had had my Protege 5for about two days. I was looking at Volkswagon Golfs but found the the PR5 to have a better value. Its a lot more fun to drive and seems roomier than the GTI or Golf. Overall, Im really suprised that I dont see more of these buggers out on the road, considering all the manufacturers great incentives. The car seems overwhelming with its perks, considering that I was driving a gas guzzling 4x4 pickup before.

The P5 is FUN! It is a great car to drive, handles fantastic and is versatile. The only drawback of the car is horsepower but it has good torque that just about makes up for that shortcoming. It has a very flexible engine without the peaky power that some small cars have. Comfort is great as I have done over 700 miles in a day (solo) in this car. Very nicely carries both a canoe and a kayak on top with Yakima racks.

  • NEW ENGINE - 2002 Mazda Protege5
