Im a Very Happy Boy - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By tman - June 26 - 6:36 pmEver since the Protege5s first came out I have always admired them for their sleek design. Every time I saw one on the road I drooled with envy. Recently, when I found myself needing a new car I found one at a local CarMax with only 21,000 miles. Took if for a drive and absolutely fell in love with it. I did a lot of research beforehand and one thing I read over and over again was regarding the lack of power. Honestly, I dont understand what everyone is talking about. Maybe it is because I was driving a pickup the last couple years but I can honestly say that if this car has plenty of pep and energy for me and I am someone who likes to drive hard and fast.

More power to me - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Pr5 Owner - June 21 - 10:00 amI love this car. Ive owned sports cars suvs everything. This has got to be my favorite. I had a guy in a Jag tell me how nice my car is. I cant believe the looks it gets. And the handling is superb. All I ask is just for a little more power. Other than that who cars.

Excellent car - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Boudrot - June 16 - 10:00 amThis is a wonderful car. After driving many other models, the MP5 was clearly a superior vehicle. It is fun to drive, great looking, comfortable and the quality is top-notch. It handles like a dream. The ride is a bit rough and it is a tad noisy, but these are minor complaints. Overall, this is a great buy.

So sad. - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By tdb3 - June 7 - 8:02 pmWere in Nova Scotia w/ moist salty air. Cars rust here; but this is the worst Ive ever seen. Model is famous w/ mechanics. Body rusted - started w/ back wheel wells. Got fixed for $800, but rest of car covered in rust. Struts rusted - Got those & few other things replaced for $1000. When I bought car it had used engine. Within 1 wk, water pump failed & 2nd engine failed. 3rd engine lasted two years before it failed. When I took it in, mechanic said to junk it b/c the frame had totally rusted out underneath. Didnt believe him, so looked myself. There were holes the size of my fist all over the FRAME of the car, rest was SOFT. Scrap yd doesnt even want it b/c has too many of them!

A Little Disappointed - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By tina_brmnghm - May 11 - 2:00 amGot a great deal on this car but prepare to pay for brakes early on. I had to get the brakes replaced at 25K miles and now at 32K miles they need replacing again! Traction is horrible on wet roads. Other than that it is a great car. It was the perfect answer at the time for me as a new parnet ready to move from my 2 door celica to a 4 door car, but wanted to stay with something sport and that didnt yell "Moms Taxi". The interior is a bit cramped but no more than any other car in this class.

Best Decision I could have made! - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By TR - April 21 - 11:56 pmI got this car new in 02. Candy apple red with leather! I love it, love it, love it! It has been a great car. Always get looks and compliments from young guys b/c of the sweet wheels. Have 156K miles on it and am getting a new car now but only because I am getting tired of hauling stuff for other people ---fold down the seats and this car will a twin size bed, an armchair, 20 clowns and 1 elephant. Im getting a 2 seater so no one can ask me to help them move ever again!

Great car for the money - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By rwm - March 28 - 10:00 amKeep up the good work Mazda. Got the car in January and have almost 9000 miles on it without a single problem (other than a rock chip in the fog light). As with my Miata, the build quality seems very good. The car could use a more powerful motor, but the handling is great. The interior is well laid out and seems to be holding up well to the abuse of two children. This car is a great deal for what it costs.

I LOVE THIS CAR! - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By vrosebud713 - March 24 - 2:00 amI bought this car 6 months ago and I love it. I love the design, interior EVERYTHING!! I bought it because I needed something for me and my infant but I didnt want a station wagon. I get the best of both worlds in the car. Its a wagon but its sporty enough that I dont feel like a mom taxi!

No more Mazda for me - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By dbar - February 24 - 2:53 pmI bought this car in 2004 as my first car, and off I went to college. It has been 6 years now and I totally regret buying this car. I have had to change almost 3 alternators in this car along 4 batteries. Had to replace the engine at 75,000 miles and that was the final straw, definitely looking for a new vehicle now and it wont be Mazda.
