  • Great, practical car - 2002 Mazda Protege5

This car is so fun to drive! It feels fast even at lower speeds and handles great. It is still a joy to drive with the automatic transmission. This is an extremely practical car- great for everyday commutes or for first time drivers. This car is also very reliable and running great after 11 years.

My wife and I fell in love for it. Awesome looks, like just unloaded from European upscale factory. Most handsome (or pretty) car in 15-30K segment. Drives like a dream, smooth transmission, sufficient power, rich feeling inside and out. Audi/VW would have priced this at 30K if it this rolled out of their factory. The body is tight and very well composed. Nigligible body roll and corners like you are locked to the road. I bought mine totally loaded. They are giving a great deal now as Mazda3 are coming soon, and they dont have this deal. Dont follow others and blindly pay your money on bland Civic/Corolla or even Martix.

  • One nagging question - 2002 Mazda Protege5

Why does this M5, a Mazda product have to be primarily manuf. in MO? Appears all things fit but am concerned that Japanese tend to on average put together products w/ more costomer care in mind.

I live up here in the Great White North so I have the Canadian version of the P5 Only options A/C, Auto, Moonroof. Got them all. Total out the door $27000Can now thats a Great price with all the with all the standard options included...PS, PB(Disc),PW, Airbags,CD player, ABS, Speed sensitive steering etc etc. No other car offers so much. I tried the Focus ZX3 but found it to be a very badly made vehicle although the engine/transmission setup was better. I would suggest a K&N filter to improve power and gas milage.A good $40 investment.

Have had this one for almost a year and havebeen satisfied with it overall. While it is a small car, it has plenty of room in all the right places. Drove 10 hours straight to Georgia in it and was never uncomfortable

  • Perfect single dad car - 2003 Mazda Protege5

I have had my P5 for about 50,000 miles. I installed a B&M short shifter which greatly increased performance and keeps the RPM up between gears. I have had no problems with the car in the year and a half I have had it. The only changes I made were to increase air flow to the engine by putting in a K&N drop in filter and cutting out the bottom of the air box which improved mileage by 1.5 mpg and bumped up the power by about 4 or 5 hp if you believe Import Tuner Magazine. I also changed to Lucas brand synthetic oil and gear lube. I put a hyperground system in as well, which does seem to assist acceleration and smooth out the idle to about 700rpm.

If its style youre looking for for the least amount of money- this car is perfect. It needs more power, but overall it is fun to drive. The steering is incredible and the size of the car is very practical for every day driving.

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 2003 Mazda Protege5

I bought Stella, my 2003 Mazda Protege5, about 14 months ago. It had 95,000 miles on it and now has 105,000. I was previously driving an old beat up Honda. It was a night and day difference between the two. It looks beautiful and new. Interior is great. Bad placement on the cupholders, only bad part of the interior. It is a fun, zippy quick car with great gas mileage. Stock tires drive terribly in any kind of snow, if you buy snow tires like I did its does amazing in snow, but stock tires are awful in snow. Cupholders and tires are only complaints. I absolutely love everything else about my amazingly fun to drive protege5.
