  • An Excellent Choice for The Perfect Car - 2002 Mazda Protege5
    By -

I personally feel that this is the car to have. I traded in my 2001 civic with 43,000 miles on it. Anyone with a new civic should get RID of it, they are GARBAGE, my tranny went at 26,000 miles. Wheel bearings went at 35,000 miles. If you have a new civic, trade it in for this car, trust me!! The P5 is such a smooth ride, sporty look, great handling, quiet on the inside, fun to drive, especially with the sport mode tranny, and the perfect car for just about anyone.

  • Problems - 2002 Mazda Protege5

I expected the car to last with proper maintenance. However, even with proper maintenance Ive replaced the engine coil and now the a/c has gone out as well. It is also starting to make a strange sound when accelerating. (I havent had this checked out yet, just started). It was a fun economical car to drive until 60,000 miles.

  • really like my car..so far.... - 2002 Mazda Protege5

I do enjoy my car thus far...It is a little on the under powered side coming from a 91 civic SI. I do however see some huge potential if I can spare some bucks...Plus it is a lot easier to get two kids in(as opposed to the SI). My only real complaint(other than the power issue) is the anti theft alarm which came stock on the model I bought..It is just to darn sensitive..My Motorcycle sets it off along with loud trucks and busses..The dealership says that they can do nothing about it as does mazda corp..Other than dealing with that.... buy this car...It is fun and DAMN good looking(for a 3 door oooops 5 door)

  • Great Deal - 2002 Mazda Protege5

This car was a phenomenal deal. Every other car I looked at priced well over 18k. I got the base model, which still had ac, power windows / locks, and I got it for $14,995 with the 4.9 financing. So I dont think theres a better deal under 15k.

  • What you need to know - 2003 Mazda Protege5

This is a great, reliable car with snappy handling. I average about 28 mpg here in Philly driving 50/50 city/highway. Im at 35K with no maintenance issues so far. Still on the original Dunlop tires. Wont go for the Dunlops as a replacement. The tires are an odd size and only a few companies make an exact all-season match. Switching to a 205 profile seems a good compromise although mileage will drop a little bit.

  • out of storage - 2002 Mazda Protege5

I purchase my PR5 in 03. Drove it for two years and put it in storage for five because of my overseas employment. Its now back on the road with 40k on it and shinny as she was when I put her up. She still has the "new car" smell. Ive fell in love with her all over again, especially now that she has some age on her, you dont see too many of them running about and mine has very low mileage. Ill be doing to official key turnover ceremony to my college bound son this coming Summer. I hope it last him for his four years hell be needing it. A trip home to daddys workshop over few months will keep her running.

Having a blast with my MP5 since I bought it early in the summer. Incredible handling has been the best part of the experience so far. My only grumbles are poor fuel economy at highway speeds, not enough vroom, and a lot of suspension shudder when hitting bumps while cornering hard.

  • More 4 your Money - 2003 Mazda Protege5
    By -

After exhaustive shopping on features and performance, we bought the Protege5, and it is a great little car - compare to the Matrix base - same HP, but the 130 on the Protege is a lot snappier despite the numbers, 4 wheel disks, and 16 inch wheels. I got this car for more than $4000 less than the Toyota dealer offered me on the Matrix! (including $2200 rebate from Mazda, but who cares WHY it is cheaper). Lets not even go into the ridiculous prices on the Subarus. You cant touch this much car for that kind of money anywhere else!
