Automatic transmission died at 110,000 miles. This is pretty unacceptable for anyone looking for reliable transportation considering cars from most other makers dont have this problem. I baught this car used and did my research. I got it well taken care of and I continued regular maintenence(all fluids regularly changed including trans fluid) Changed timing belt and water pump etc. There were some minor repairs like the alternator and an intake hose too. But then the transmission started slipping and I took it to a mazda specialist. He said this was unfortunatly a common problem for these cars.

My wife needed a car to replace our failing saturn. I looked at everything in this price range. Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, VW, Kia, and all the americans. I was impressed with the style; it wasnt a little turtle like other brands. Im 62 and when I sat in it, it had plenty of room. It drove great and was very peppy on the interstate. The price allowed us to get the sunroof, the abs breaks, and the side airbags. Very cool car. Ours is a 2002 model. After 8 months of ownership, Im still very happy.

I really enjoy driving on curves with this vehicle, it really hugs the road. The seats are more comfortable than the Mazda Protege model. My Protege5 looks great and I get comments on it all the time.

Restored a 70 VW that got totalled (cell phone driver nailed me) so needed a replacement. Bought a new Saturn ION and when my son brought his new Protege 5 over and let me drive it I knew the ION was going back. What a neat little car. I was driving my Z28 Camaro for a while and while the Mazda is no Z28 it sure gives me the ride and feel of a sporty car. Now, if they could fit a small block Chevy in that thing they couldnt build em fast enough. I like everything about and the Laser Blue color turns everyones head. and all for 15,000. How do they do it.

  • Matrix what? - 2003 Mazda Protege5

Ive loved the Matrix ever since it came out, and was sure I was going to get it, UNTIL I saw that Protege5. The Matrix is so much bigger and less sport than the Protege5, which is a huge plus! Dont get me wrong, the Matrix is still nice, but side by side, the Protege5 outbeats Toyotas newest model. Also, feature-to- feature, youll be crazy NOT to choose the Protege5!

  • Low price for a high quality car - 2003 Mazda Protege5
    By -

I have a little over 400 miles on my 03 P5. I have owned Mazdas in the past and feel confident about the quality. I bought this car as a second car to carry my bicycle around on a bike rack. The fit and finish is as good as my Infinity G35 but the quality of the paint is even better. I bought this car brand new loaded with automatic, leather, sunroof, dimming mirors, ABS, side airbags and polished wheels for $16,300! Does any other car compete at this price level and quality? Answer No.

It is simply fun to drive this car.you get everything that you want from a car for 19K with all extra features such nice 6 in dash cd and alloy wheels out the door. it gets noisy when you are driving over 60mph

  • MP5 - 2003 Mazda Protege5

Phenomenal car, quick, nimble, fun to drive, excellent gas mileage, roomy. Its only fault is being a tad underpowered...but you cant have everything!!! I normally buy a new car every year. Prior to the MP5 I had a Firebird Formula, a Trans Am WS6 and a Ford Lightning. I bought the MP5 as a temporary vehicle because I had a long drive to work (which I dont anymore). After a year and more than 18000 miles, its going to be around for quite awhile longer!!!

I bought this car in March of 2003, as of today I have approx. 115,000 miles. Ive gone through three sets of tires, new brakes and rotors, new radiator, timing belt, and one tranny flush. This car is awesome. Before this car, I owned the Mazda 626, so I was already hooked on Mazdas. The first year and a half, I would always take my car to the dealership to be serviced, but the cost got so high, I started doing all of the easy maintenance myself. That kept the cost of owning this car really low! All in all this car has held up and I love it till this day!
