  • Fun car - 2003 Mazda Protege5

I love this car and so does my 17 yr old son whom I bought it for. Thing is its so fun to drive and gets such good gas mileage and is so nimble in traffic and did I mention fun to drive and looks sport that I have yet to hand the keys over to him some 8 months later. He can drive the minivan! Seriously, this is a great car that handles and performs extremely well for a car its size and compared to many other cars. It has great leg room for my 64" frame and is peppy enough to keep you out of trouble.

  • Awesome family car - 2003 Mazda Protege5

This has been an awesome experience from day one. The dealership was honest and helpful to say the least, even going to the extent to volutarily give me the vehicle for under invoice so that I could take advantage of a lower interest rate. If you are in the D/FW (Texas) area Hillard Mazda in FW is a very good dealer. We downsized from a Chrysler T&C (awful vehicle : ( ). We were concerned about space, but so far this car has been a blast to drive and the kids love it. We brought it home before buying to test out the trunk space and found that everything fit just great.

  • Bought with 200k! - 2003 Mazda Protege5

I bought this car a few months ago with 200k in the clock! I previously had a 99 protege 1.8 sedan that I loved, but always wanted to upgrade the handling. After a wreck, I got the opportunity to purchase my beloved 02 P5! Everything about this car was a dream come true! It handles noticeably better than the sedan did, being a standard I feel it has a little more pick up. Only issue I had with this car is in the 02 model but fixed for 03 is the a/c & a/c light cutting out on some speeds, after reading into the problem, the only permanent solution is to wire in resistors to the climate control unit, but after that fix (about an hour) the a/c works perfect again. EVERYTHING else on the car works! Working on the motor is a little harder than the 1.8 due to different coils & the strut bar. Timing belt was replaced around 150k. I have no doubt this betty will see 300k I have absolute faith. I love love love this car. 100% would buy this car again.

My Protege 5 is everything Ive ever looked for in a new car. It looks good, handles well, is dependable and gets fabulous gas mileage. It has all the interior space we need when traveling cross country or just to the recycling center. Ive gotten compliments on its looks.

Lots of fun to drive. European styling, large wheels and nice taillamps make this car look like a Lexus IS 300.

  • Great Car at a Great Price! - 2003 Mazda Protege5
    By -

I wanted a relatively small commuter vehicle that had great gas mileage. Also wanted something sporty and that looked nice. Got all that and then some in the PR5! I test drove the Civic EX, Corolla, Matrix/Vibe, and even the Camry (the car my wife wanted). None compared to the PR5 in terms of looks, standard options, performance, and uniqueness (dont see very many on the road). As far as cost, got it for $100 under dealer invoice & 0% interest for 5 years thanks to doing my research here and allowing email to do the negotiating for me. Had the best price nailed before I stepped foot on the lot! This is by far a great value for the money.

  • Ditch the PT - 2003 Mazda Protege5
    By -

After owning a PT Cruiser for 6 months, I dithced it for a Protege5. I had nothing but trouble with the PT and the gas mileage was abysmal (16 combined). The Protege5 outhandles and outperforms the PT in every area accept 1. The PT did have more cargo space. Otherwise, the Protege5 has been a joy. Plenty of room for my needs and waaaaaaay more fun on the back roads. Sure it could use a few more ponies under the hood, but thats what the aftermarket catalogues are for.
