LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By darkmattress - March 25 - 1:17 pmI have owned this car for 10 years now and it has been nothing but good to me. I always took it to the dealership so anything related to maintenance and the few recalls were taken care of properly. I put a few modifications on it early on (Injen CAI, Racing Beat Catback Exhaust, Short Shifter) and have enjoyed even better performance and fun driving. Granted, this car is not going to win any drag races, but it is has decent pep and loves corners! Very reliable- never had anything beyond regular wear and tear in 10 years.

What you need to know - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By Phillyguy - January 13 - 5:40 amThis is a great, reliable car with snappy handling. I average about 28 mpg here in Philly driving 50/50 city/highway. Im at 35K with no maintenance issues so far. Still on the original Dunlop tires. Wont go for the Dunlops as a replacement. The tires are an odd size and only a few companies make an exact all-season match. Switching to a 205 profile seems a good compromise although mileage will drop a little bit.

Glad the passengers have grab handles! - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By harley613 - December 27 - 3:26 pmHaving a blast with my MP5 since I bought it early in the summer. Incredible handling has been the best part of the experience so far. My only grumbles are poor fuel economy at highway speeds, not enough vroom, and a lot of suspension shudder when hitting bumps while cornering hard.

More 4 your Money - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By ib1netmon - December 26 - 10:00 amAfter exhaustive shopping on features and performance, we bought the Protege5, and it is a great little car - compare to the Matrix base - same HP, but the 130 on the Protege is a lot snappier despite the numbers, 4 wheel disks, and 16 inch wheels. I got this car for more than $4000 less than the Toyota dealer offered me on the Matrix! (including $2200 rebate from Mazda, but who cares WHY it is cheaper). Lets not even go into the ridiculous prices on the Subarus. You cant touch this much car for that kind of money anywhere else!

Cant believe its true - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By Santanu - December 20 - 2:00 amMy wife and I fell in love for it. Awesome looks, like just unloaded from European upscale factory. Most handsome (or pretty) car in 15-30K segment. Drives like a dream, smooth transmission, sufficient power, rich feeling inside and out. Audi/VW would have priced this at 30K if it this rolled out of their factory. The body is tight and very well composed. Nigligible body roll and corners like you are locked to the road. I bought mine totally loaded. They are giving a great deal now as Mazda3 are coming soon, and they dont have this deal. Dont follow others and blindly pay your money on bland Civic/Corolla or even Martix.

1st Mazda is a keeper! - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By Gavin - December 9 - 10:00 amHave had this one for almost a year and havebeen satisfied with it overall. While it is a small car, it has plenty of room in all the right places. Drove 10 hours straight to Georgia in it and was never uncomfortable

Perfect single dad car - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By Clint G - November 26 - 9:06 amI have had my P5 for about 50,000 miles. I installed a B&M short shifter which greatly increased performance and keeps the RPM up between gears. I have had no problems with the car in the year and a half I have had it. The only changes I made were to increase air flow to the engine by putting in a K&N drop in filter and cutting out the bottom of the air box which improved mileage by 1.5 mpg and bumped up the power by about 4 or 5 hp if you believe Import Tuner Magazine. I also changed to Lucas brand synthetic oil and gear lube. I put a hyperground system in as well, which does seem to assist acceleration and smooth out the idle to about 700rpm.

This car is well worth the money - 2003 Mazda Protege5
By Nicolem55 - November 24 - 2:00 amIf its style youre looking for for the least amount of money- this car is perfect. It needs more power, but overall it is fun to drive. The steering is incredible and the size of the car is very practical for every day driving.
