  • Overall Im satisfied - 2002 Mazda Protege

I have put more sets of tires on this car than I thought possible. Love the gas mileage both highway and city still, after 114,000 miles. Had remote start & XM installed, both were easy & still work great. Wish I would have gotten one with a spoiler and a different color (millennium mica red = rosy barf)

  • Great car - 2002 Mazda Protege

I purchased this car for my wife and wanted good handling and 4 wheel disc brakes. Had wanted a Civic but the disc brakes only came on the Si. This has been a great car - fun to drive and no problems at all. Engine not as sweet as a Honda but it has a lot of pickup around town and on the highway as well. Not as smooth in the higher RPM range as a Honda but that is not really an issue. Highway mileage is 31-32 so it gives up a bit to a Civic but much more of a sporty ride. I prefer driving the ES to my Accord V-6. I have an auto transmission and it still has a lot of Zoom Zoom. Did I mention great handling with a good highway ride? You cannot go wrong with this car. I dont like the 3.

I cant say enough good things about this car. Im still on the original clutch and original water pump. Just change the oil every 3,750 miles and perform the major service every 30K miles. Amazing car.

  • Best compact for the money - 2002 Mazda Protege

Needed a second car and looked at Mazda, Honda, Corolla, and Sentra. All great cars and each with its own character. But, when it was time to buy, Mazda offered the best deal($3000 better than any of the above with the same features) and was by far and away, the best car. Drives with aplomb, handles suberbly, breaks better than my Seville, interior is flawlessy designed and Quality is built in. Acceleration is more than I would expect from a compact car. I enjoy the comfort of this car better than my Cadillac--all though it does lack many digital gadgits. Overall, I would but this car again in a heart beat.

  • The Greates Car Ever - 2002 Mazda Protege
    By -

My Protege was my first new car and it was the greatest decision I ever made. A year later, it runs great and I got a good deal on it. It is so comfortable and stylish. When considering vehicles to buy, the Protege stood out as the best all around value for the options I could get for the price. I dont regret anything about buying my Protege and definitely recommend it for someone buying their first car.

  • What a Surprise - 2002 Mazda Protege

Ive owned this car for 2 and 1/2 years. I havent had any problems expect for a disfuntional drive door lock, but the dealer replaced under warranty. This car is really fun to drive. It handles really well on the rood. And the ride is really good for a small car. I drive to school and back 500 miles and Im in complete comfort. I also find the seats supportive and Ive had back surgery so that really a plus. I love the options on this car... it is what sold me over the Civic.

  • 2002 Protege ES - 2002 Mazda Protege

I bought my Protege to replace my aging 94 Escort GT. I have nothing but praise for the vechicle. The handling is superb especially with 4 wheel discs and 16 inch wheels on the ES. My only complaint is lack of power which can easily be fixed with some light mods (air filter and exhaust). Im also planning to install a strut tower bar with some stiffer springs and new shocks. For 15 grand its the best car on the market.

  • 153k And still tickin! - 2002 Mazda Protege

Update to an older review. I know this car will go to 250k+.I love this car, At 150k I had to do the timing belt, when i got it done the guy said this isnt your first one is it? I said yeah... he said you should have had 2 done already. The true cost of ownership on this car is really low. All I have done is the timing belt, water pump, oil, tires, rotors, just basic needs of a car. I would recommend this car to anyone I have had great success with it and bought my wife a Mazda 3

  • Good bang for the buck - 2002 Mazda Protege

Weve had our 2002 LX for 6 months now. It looks good and is fairly peppy around town. The seats are very comfortable and there is loads of room in the back seat compared to a 2002 Corolla or a Honda Civic. The stereo and heating controls are useable with gloves and the heater pumps out loads of heat, even in very cold weather so the windows dont fog up. All around great car few complaints.
