  • Great Car! - 2002 Mazda Protege

I bought this car used with 25,000 miles on it and it now has 125,000 miles after 6 years. I have NEVER had a major mechanical issue with it (other than the AC about 6 months ago). Its the greatest car and i would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap, fun, reliable car.

This vehicle has been in and out of the shop though they dont want to fix it when it gets there. Finally found a factory defect after 4 attempts. Still having the same problem. Dealerships dont want to fix the car unless its dead on the water.

Bought this car from the dealer. It has a strong transmission as well as super handling on even wet pavement. The only thing i notice with this car are the belts which are very annoying and its a common problem with this car.

Just purchased 10/09. In beautiful condition. Well kept..runs,looks great. absolutely no problems. What a kick to drive. Has 200000 miles and runs like 20000 miles. Have a Sebring Conv,Chrysler T&C,Lincoln, and a Buick, and I would rather drive the Protege. Looking for another one.

Great little car. Just purchased for my 18 year old daughter. Man is she getting comments about how great it looks. I drove it home for 50 miles from the dealership-what a Hoot to drive. Lots of power for this little ride. Sports suspension hugs the corners. Kids in California would love to get a hold of this one and turn it into a Fast and Furious 9 second qtr. turner. Great value for the buck.....

This is the most reliable new car I have owned. I love it!

  • It held up...but.. - 2000 Mazda Protege
    By -

This car held up. I bought it with 68,000 miles on it. While it held up it had terrible handling. And the noises it made were embarrassing and ridiculous. It constantly sounded like it was dying. I never had this car stall and I drove about 40 miles to and from work daily. But if your looking for a nice car thats going to be a quiet ride.. this isnt for you.

I have had my Protege for almost two years now and it was been a joy to drive to work. It handles well for an economy car and has a surprising amount of room for my wife, two kids and my black lab. The 5-speed is smooth and precise. Steering has nice feel.

  • My Protege two years later - 2001 Mazda Protege

I bought the Protege after driving most of the competition (Corolla, Civic, Sentra). The Mazda felt tighter, handled better and had better brakes. It has been reliable to a fault. I now have almost 40k on the car and it is still running good. I had to put new pads front and back recently and replaced the tires. The 16" Dunlops are next to impossible to find, so I upgraded one size to 205/55/16 Fuldas. The car rides a bit better on these tires. The only faults are that with the wide 16" wheels, it can be a terror to drive in the snow and the gas mileage could be better (25 to 28 typical with automatic)

car has very stiff suspension but that is it, sport auto on es is fun and only 95.00! smartly designed car as well, very reliable, have had no problems, driving 30000 miles a year.
