Best compact for the money - 2002 Mazda Protege
By doucetd - October 2 - 10:00 amNeeded a second car and looked at Mazda, Honda, Corolla, and Sentra. All great cars and each with its own character. But, when it was time to buy, Mazda offered the best deal($3000 better than any of the above with the same features) and was by far and away, the best car. Drives with aplomb, handles suberbly, breaks better than my Seville, interior is flawlessy designed and Quality is built in. Acceleration is more than I would expect from a compact car. I enjoy the comfort of this car better than my Cadillac--all though it does lack many digital gadgits. Overall, I would but this car again in a heart beat.

2003 Mazda Protege ES - 2003 Mazda Protege
By David Broadwater - September 26 - 10:00 amVery, very nice vehicle. No reliability issues. 4 whhel disc brakes are great. Enough pep to be fun to drive, especially if using the auto sport transmission. Only issue is to have better mileage, but approx 26 in town and 29 highway is not to bad. Love the 6 disc CD player.

The Greates Car Ever - 2002 Mazda Protege
By jcg44498 - September 26 - 10:00 amMy Protege was my first new car and it was the greatest decision I ever made. A year later, it runs great and I got a good deal on it. It is so comfortable and stylish. When considering vehicles to buy, the Protege stood out as the best all around value for the options I could get for the price. I dont regret anything about buying my Protege and definitely recommend it for someone buying their first car.

Still A "GLC" - Great Little Car - 1999 Mazda Protege
By caneshooter - September 18 - 10:00 amNo hype here, just the facts. Just passed the 3 year mark on ownership of this car. At 77k miles, besides oil changes and new tires, my first repair was a month ago, and that was just new front brakes. I think that speaks for itself. Ive also owned a GLC and 323 in the past.

What a Surprise - 2002 Mazda Protege
By rollsofjoy - September 18 - 10:00 amIve owned this car for 2 and 1/2 years. I havent had any problems expect for a disfuntional drive door lock, but the dealer replaced under warranty. This car is really fun to drive. It handles really well on the rood. And the ride is really good for a small car. I drive to school and back 500 miles and Im in complete comfort. I also find the seats supportive and Ive had back surgery so that really a plus. I love the options on this car... it is what sold me over the Civic.

Very Dependable Field Car - 2000 Mazda Protege
By wolfbear9 - September 15 - 10:00 amI have had this car for over 3years now and have 72000 miles on it. I drive 100 miles + per day for work and have only had this car in the shop for front brakes and oil changes.Wipers and rear brake lamps are the only maintenance I have had to perform on this car.I did purchase an extended warranty 7 years or 100k miles but have never had to use it. 35mpg with a/c & automatic trans. Trunk space is good and stereo sounds good. Very low cost of operation vehicle.

2002 Protege ES - 2002 Mazda Protege
By MDLockard - September 12 - 10:00 amI bought my Protege to replace my aging 94 Escort GT. I have nothing but praise for the vechicle. The handling is superb especially with 4 wheel discs and 16 inch wheels on the ES. My only complaint is lack of power which can easily be fixed with some light mods (air filter and exhaust). Im also planning to install a strut tower bar with some stiffer springs and new shocks. For 15 grand its the best car on the market.

153k And still tickin! - 2002 Mazda Protege
By brad - August 29 - 1:46 pmUpdate to an older review. I know this car will go to 250k+.I love this car, At 150k I had to do the timing belt, when i got it done the guy said this isnt your first one is it? I said yeah... he said you should have had 2 done already. The true cost of ownership on this car is really low. All I have done is the timing belt, water pump, oil, tires, rotors, just basic needs of a car. I would recommend this car to anyone I have had great success with it and bought my wife a Mazda 3

Good bang for the buck - 2002 Mazda Protege
By Metro guy - August 13 - 4:50 pmWeve had our 2002 LX for 6 months now. It looks good and is fairly peppy around town. The seats are very comfortable and there is loads of room in the back seat compared to a 2002 Corolla or a Honda Civic. The stereo and heating controls are useable with gloves and the heater pumps out loads of heat, even in very cold weather so the windows dont fog up. All around great car few complaints.
