Mazda Protege LX sedan 2003 - 2003 Mazda Protege
By Luigi - February 16 - 11:03 pmI love my Mazda. It works well and Ive never really had a problem with it even after someone hit me going 40 when I was at a complete stop. Not that much damage done to it when it was hit, but it did cost a few thousand dollars to get it fixed. Very fun to drive. Pretty fast (obviously not a Corvette or BMW, but still fast enough to make you happy). Very good handling and easy layout of controls (minus the power windows switch for driver. I always press the back ones on accident). Other then that Im glad I have it. Gas could be better especially with the prices the way they are now.

Poor mans Jetta - 2002 Mazda Protege
By Joshua Ranger - January 31 - 2:00 amWe lost our 1998.5 VW Jetta last year when we were rearended (insurance totaled the car). With very little money and no desire to release again we again looked to the Protege (my 2nd choice when I got the Jetta). I call my car a poor mans Jetta because it has much (but not all) of the "fun to drive" as our VW. It is by all accounts a do-fer (itll do-fer now) and I will say its much more comfortable in long drives than the VW and a much better value (I do not miss the trips to the fancy VW service centers).

Great Car - 2000 Mazda Protege
By JF from NJ - January 26 - 10:00 amI just passed 50,000 miles and three years. I havent had to do any work to the car aside form oil changes and new tires and brakes. It has been absolutely solid and is a blast to drive. For $15,000 you cant beat it. I wish I went for the sunroof though. My only real gripe is the mileage. I do a lot of highway driving in my daily commute and usually get 26 though somestimes as low as 23 mpg.

Great Car for the Money - 2003 Mazda Protege
By alloway70 - January 20 - 10:00 amAfter reading some of the less than steller reviews...I havent had one problem with my car which is now approaching 2 years old. It has been a great car on long and short trips. I can always use more power, but the car performs quite well and better than other comparible cars. The best thing about the car is that all the "clones" drive hondas and toyotas and I have something more distinctive. Ive had my car modified and even the mechanic (who normally modifies hondas) said he didnt realize the Proteges interior was so nice. Take that honda.

2000 Mazda Protege - 2000 Mazda Protege
By Monica - January 19 - 2:46 pmThe only maintenance I have had to have on this vehicle were a recall and routine maintenance. The recall was an oxygen sensor on the emissions system, and before that was replaced, I had to take it in a lot. However, it was covered under the warranty. The Mazda CD player has a mind of its own, though and is very finicky about what it plays.

LotsaMiles - 2000 Mazda Protege
By tedg - January 18 - 10:00 amWe have had this car since it was new 11 years ago - it replaced another just like it that died on us, and it now has 224,500 miles on it. Though we are looking for a new vehicle, we plan to keep this one as a second vehicle for use locally. I was amazed that you give mpg as 25 - 27; weve never gotten less than 32, usually more, up to 38! Perhaps part of that is my exclusive use of Mobil 1 oil; with the vagaries of gas pump shut-offs, regardless, I feel 34-35 mpg is what we have (and continue to get) for mileage. Driving its been a pleasure, though its showing signs of age - noisiness, mostly.

"Cheapest Super Car" - 2001 Mazda Protege
By PY - January 12 - 10:00 amTrying to push this car to its limit but seem like this car have no limit. The MP3 body is good enough to handle a 300 hp or up engine.

Good Daily Commuter - 1999 Mazda Protege
By Protege-ing - January 12 - 10:00 amIts a peppy little car, though Id rather have the manual than the automatic that I have(passed down in family). Little rattles and noises here and there, but nothing major, 45,000 miles and still going strong!

Good change from a 2000 corolla - 2002 Mazda Protege
By Jason McGovern - January 12 - 2:00 amThis has got to be the coolest eco-sedan I have ever driven. Its a very nimble little car and with being a bit smaller than other eco sedans, the 130hp engine goes a bit farther on get up and go. This car comes with a sporty grip steering wheel which I believe is a 13" (a little smaller than most others). Makes for a very fun drive and ALL curvy roads are a pleasure to drive. The construction is very solid, and the interior has no annoyances or cheap interfaces. Sure, its no drag racer, but since when do we all drive on open straight roads 100% of the time? Agility over brute strength.
