This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
Cons:
  • A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

  • Just Plain Fun! - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
    By -

If you want a car thats just plain fun, you cant beat the MX-5. Wife and I chose the copper red Touring model with black cloth interior. The car is gorgeous, fit is perfect. As for performance, the 5 speed manual is quick and smooth, flawless. While not exactly fast, the car is very quick. The steering is extremely responsive. Brakes stop the vehicle on a dime. The interior, while snug, imparts the sensation of a cockpit. All controls are at your fingertips just inches away. The top is very well designed and easy to use. I would not recommend the vehicle for primary transportation, but if youre looking for a sensational, affordable second, this is it. This car is a blast.

  • Excellent car - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

The MX5 is the closest thing to a motorcycle youll get with 4 wheels. Exremely fun to drive. Very responsive. I love driving this car almost as much as riding my motorcycle. Excellent fit and finish. If you want a fun to drive car, this is it.

  • MX 5 pulls us out of a rut. - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

This car is not for a person who wants basic transportation. This car is for someone who truly enjoys driving. With four children we had become the typical kid hauling, van owning parents. Not having driven a stick for 15 years, I had forgotten how much fun it is to go through the gears. Especially the way this car shifts and welcomes high revs, it really puts a smile on my face. My wife and I are enjoying short getaway trips and evening drives. We now look forward to traveling the winding country roads of southeastern Ohio instead of avoiding them. Our MX 5 has pulled us out of our rut.

  • 1999 vs. 2006 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I test drove the 2006 MX-5 while my 1999 Miata was in for a regular service ... my mistake, I know, but I was so surprised about the improved handling (especially for windy roads!) and the new engine, that I decided to get the 2006 model. Nice handling, the manual transmission is very smooth, driving with top down is pure fun. Its like vacation for your soul!

  • Why I love my Mazda Miata - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

If you have never owned a Mazda Miata you might wonder why Miata owners are so loyal to Mazda, and so passionate about their cars. However, if you are lucky enough to own one, you already know: the Miata is happiness on wheels. In 28 years of driving, Ive never owned a car that makes such an impression on people. Even strangers come up to ask me about the car. Ive lost count of how many times Ive heard, "Nice car!" but I can remember three occasions when people actually wanted to take a picture of the car. I can assure you that none of those things ever happened to me when I drove a Toyota Corolla. There is no better example of trouble free fun than a Mazda Miata.

  • Rained out in my 2006 MX5 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I love my 2006 MX5. I use it for commute. I have problems when it rain. Every rain season the car floods from the drains inside the car. The dealership fixes it everytime for no charge. Concern problems continues. I am scared to drive or park the car outside in the rain. What should I do?

I never thought I would be buying a convertible roadster. This car is quite the attention getter.

  • LOVE this car - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I love my Mazda MX5. My husband bought it for my 40th Birthday. My husband is 66 and it is the only convertible on the market that he can actually drive and ride in. We bought an automatic with the manual shifting paddles on the steering wheel. He loves that and I love the automatic. The top is so easy to put up and down you can do it while sitting in the car. The trunk is HUGE, unlike most convertibles. The Mazda is so fun to drive, the wheels really stick when going around corners. While going 80mph the RPMs barely hit 3000. While driving the inside is quiet no wind noise or rattles. We love our Mazda MX5!

  • My Fun MX5 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

We have four cars. We own a 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE, a 2006 Lexus GS300, a 2007 Lexus ES350 and the 2006 Mazda MX5. We bought this car recently as a "want" car, not a "need" car.At our stage of life, we wanted one car for pure fun. We looked at the Solstace and the Sky, but chose the Mazda based on writeups and past history of the superceded Miata. And, is it F U N ! We adore this car! I have been driving for 54 years, have owned 58 cars, and I have been a car afficiando since I was a little kid. I get all the car mags, so I have a very strong opinion about cars, and I and my wife Love this MX5! Sincerely, SZteve Miller

  • My 3rd and easily best MX-5 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
    By -

Ive owned a 96, 99 and now an 06 MX-5. This is without a doubt the best of the three. Traded in my year-young Mazda 6s after just one test drive. The most marked improvements are the increased power, more muscular exterior and superb interior quality. Flicking through the short-throw 6-speed MT is addicting. The engine is much more willing with the increased HP. It now actually feels fast. The previous MX-5 always sounded like it was working really hard, but not producing much in the way of acceleration. That has changed with this model. Hopefully reliability will be as good as the previous models. A fantastic car.
