This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
Cons:
  • A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

  • LOVE this car - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I love my Mazda MX5. My husband bought it for my 40th Birthday. My husband is 66 and it is the only convertible on the market that he can actually drive and ride in. We bought an automatic with the manual shifting paddles on the steering wheel. He loves that and I love the automatic. The top is so easy to put up and down you can do it while sitting in the car. The trunk is HUGE, unlike most convertibles. The Mazda is so fun to drive, the wheels really stick when going around corners. While going 80mph the RPMs barely hit 3000. While driving the inside is quiet no wind noise or rattles. We love our Mazda MX5!

We have four cars. We own a 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE, a 2006 Lexus GS300, a 2007 Lexus ES350 and the 2006 Mazda MX5. We bought this car recently as a "want" car, not a "need" car.At our stage of life, we wanted one car for pure fun. We looked at the Solstace and the Sky, but chose the Mazda based on writeups and past history of the superceded Miata. And, is it F U N ! We adore this car! I have been driving for 54 years, have owned 58 cars, and I have been a car afficiando since I was a little kid. I get all the car mags, so I have a very strong opinion about cars, and I and my wife Love this MX5! Sincerely, SZteve Miller

  • My 3rd and easily best MX-5 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Ive owned a 96, 99 and now an 06 MX-5. This is without a doubt the best of the three. Traded in my year-young Mazda 6s after just one test drive. The most marked improvements are the increased power, more muscular exterior and superb interior quality. Flicking through the short-throw 6-speed MT is addicting. The engine is much more willing with the increased HP. It now actually feels fast. The previous MX-5 always sounded like it was working really hard, but not producing much in the way of acceleration. That has changed with this model. Hopefully reliability will be as good as the previous models. A fantastic car.

  • Significantly better than my 91 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

This is a fantastically fun car to drive. The power in the 06 is felt immediately upon pressing down on the accelerator. I took it to about 10 autocross events and it performed very well on the OEM street tires. The six speed transmission, however, required frequent shifting between second and third on faster courses. This is not a problem on the road as you can easily skip a gear without notice.

  • My First Roadster - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I love this car. This is my first 2 seater convertible (Ive wanted one for a long time). My husband (61") thought it was too small for him to ever drive but the cruise control made it OK. We both ride motorcycles and decided it was as close to riding a motorcycle with no helmet as you can get. Great handling.

  • Well worth it - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I purchased the last brand new 3rd Generation Limited roadster in Georgia. I didnt know how to drive stick, but I learned very quickly. The stick is as smooth as butter. It may have just a four cylinder but dont underestimate it. You feel like youre driving a race car. BEST CAR EVER.

  • Best Car on the Market - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Traded in a Limited 2000 after it was stolen and wrecked. I really like all of the little improvements, things only a previous Miata owner would notice. Same great sport feel without all the gas hog effect. Thanks Mazda for all the little improvements. I was convinced to buy the 2006 over a 2005 for a little more money but sooooo many great new features.

  • No 11s?? - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Fantastic! you would need to spend a LOT MORE money to get this kind of quality and performance. Then you might be afraid to scratch a $60-70K vehicle. This is a fun toy that the average Joe or Jill can afford, abuse and have a lot of fun.

  • Great car - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I just got it. This car is really great. It is so fun to drive. Great brakes and transmission. Reminds me of the old British sports cars except better quality. I really like how they squeezed every last drop of storage space out of that thing. Very well thought out and engineered. Really fun to drive!

This is a wonderful car. Traded my 2000 Special Edition in for it. I think they took my car and ten Japaneses engineers, locked them in a room and told them not to come out until they improved the car in every way. They did it. This one should last me ten years or more.
