This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
Cons:
  • A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

  • MX5 Sport 6 speed automatic, a zoomer - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

We bought the car out of state and drove it 750 miles home. It got a good workout. It rides and drives good. The seats though are a little narrow for a wide bottom person. All the gauges are in a good location. On a long trip the car is not ideal because of its limited space on the interior. There needs to be more room inside it so the seats can recline further back. You never feel like you are in a "little" car when passing and being passed by other vehicles. The Miata feels very substantial. For a daily driver the car is great. It is the best stress reliever from a long day at work. Gas mileage on the interstate is over 32 mpg. The top is easy to raise and lower. The trunk is fairy large.

I traded in a Mazda Tribute for the new MX-5 ... and Im glad I did. What a fantastic little car. I find myself choosing (I shouldnt admit this!) the MX-5 over my 2005 AMG E-55 with 500HP -- the little Miata is actually more "fun" to drive (though not as fast!). SUPER JOB, Mazda!

Ive had my MX-5 for 4 1/2 months (6800 miles) and I couldnt be happier... no complaints. It is a first class sports car and is a blast to drive. I am ready for some top down weather though.

  • An excellent weekend car - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Had been wanting one for quite a while. Got a GT model with all the bells and whistles and 6 sp. manual. Wasnt sure if Id enjoy a stick again but glad I bought it. Solid build quality and corners as if its on rails. Nice exhaust note. Small size makes it easy to keep clean. Chassis and engine combination is very balanced: Not so much power to get you into "trouble"; brakes are excellent.

  • "WOW" Did I mention "WOW?" - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I purchased this car 04 Sep 2007. I bought it in Michigan and drove it home to Dallas. What can I say about the car other than wow? It handles like a motorcycle in the turns. Although I will admit it is not the greatest car for a 15 hour drive. But, it was not as bad as a motorcycle and yet just as fun. It has the easiest to operate top that I have ever seen. Has a very responsive and pretty powerful engine. Will stop on a dime and give you a nickel change. I have put over 25,000 miles on it and still love to drive it as much now as I did the day I bought it. It is not my daily driver, but I truly look forward to driving it every chance I get.

  • An excellent fun car - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I use my car as a daily commuter in Northern VA and couldnt be happier. While the stock suspension is a little soft for me - I used to have a BMW M3 - the top operation is amazingly simple and quick, the build quality is great and the engine is free-revving and makes nice power for putting out 170hp / 140tq. Remember that the car weighs under 2500 pounds!

  • Big Smiles! - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Picked up my new Copper Red MX-5 Grand Touring just earlier today and I am already very impressed. This car feels very solid and well put together like high-end German vehicles and handles amazingly. 170 HP may not sound like a lot, but in this car, it is plenty of power thanks to good torque delivery at lower RPMs and a free-revving engine. Driving this car will instantly plaster a big smile to your face. It is highly recommended, especially with Mazdas standard warranty and the asking price. By the way, my vehicle was purchased at invoice price, so dont settle for MSRP. It also helps to price over the internet and get several dealers competing for your business. Car shopping 101.

I have had my MX5 copper red for 4+ months now and it has NOT lost any of its appeal. This car is so fun to drive. I get many compliments on how classy it looks and people can not believe how easy the top is to operate. Great gas mileage too.

  • Miata quality - 06 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I am very impressed with the car. It seems to have made some significant improvements since the last change in 1999. The only improvement needed is gas mileage.

  • Month One Review - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I have owned my 06 MX-5 for less than a month and I have to say, I am more in love with it today than ever. I have a few pet peeves that I know Mazda can easily correct on future models. This is a wonderful roadster that could only have been dream of in the very distant past!
