This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
Cons:
  • A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

Very questionable plastics in interior. Have experienced annoying rattling clicking noise on console. Absolutely no help from Mazda with problem. While very fun to drive, the annoying rattle takes enjoyment out.

  • 4 months of ownership - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Ive had the car for about 4 months now. It is a solid built car. When I hit a bump I may feel it but the car doesnt rattle or make any unpleasant sounds you might hear in a cheaply built car. The top is a snap to put down and back up again without getting out of the drivers seat. It handles like a dream, very responsive. What I dont like is a couple of things. One, the cup holders in the door are in the way. When I raise my left leg up my knee rests against the cup holder and its uncomfortable. Second, I cant find a comfortable position with the seat. I have to have the seat back as far as it will go to keep my right leg from being uncomfortable. Then I am sittin straight up.

  • A bargain - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

The best car Ive ever owned, it has awesome handling, great acceleration and brakes, is super FUN to drive. I prefer the manual top - simpler, less expense, less to break, and actually very quick and easy to raise and lower. Beautiful all around. My only complaint is that its a little too snug inside - Im over 6 tall and I cant stretch out my legs. I have to move the seat slightly forward to recline the seatback at all. I have to force my butt all the way back to the seat back to avoid back pain. But unlike previous generations, I can now tilt adjust the steering wheel so my knees dont jam against it. Perfect for someone shorter who likes to drive. The best buy convertible by far.

I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to as I am truly in love with my car. I generally have short term relationships with cars but this one is a true keeper. People often compliment how well this car fits me. It can really handle corners at high speeds, I no longer have to step on my brakes like my fellow drivers. The top is easy to unlock and lock. This car is practical and fun!

I have had my MX5 for 6 months now, and I am in love with it! The new body style is definitely eye catching. It performs great and corners fantastic. I must admit though I did expect better gas mileage with the a/c on, but it more than makes up for that in the fun category.

  • Bad computer - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I love the car, but, my wife will not ride with me any more, the damn car (computer) takes a crap if you park next to or close to overhead power lines. do not trust the car any more, last week we went for a ride to view fall leaves and stopped at a road side tavern for a brew, went to car , it would not allow the "key" to start, after much frustration and calling a tow truck operator, my wife looked at the manual and found that overhead power lines could cause a problem, enlisted some cowboys from tavern and pushed the car about 6 away from the overhead powerline, walah, it started. now will not venture any further than to town 2 miles do not trust the SOB

The fact that my wife and I have logged over two thousand miles of fun in this automobile are the best statement of our impression. I seleceted the MX-5 over The Mustang GT rag top. The Mustang will push you back into the upholstery as long as you go in a straight line. the MX-5 on the other hand is an absolute "Driving experience"! We recently spent a weekend in the mountains of Arkansas. I have never had so much fun. The Six speed manual in the MX-5 is perfectly matched to the engines spunky performance. Climbing and descending in the hills and curves is this cars specialty. Never have driven a car that was so much pure driving fun.

  • MX-5 experience - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I like the Miata for its sporty feeling and it is fun to drive. It is the roughest riding car Ive ever owned and definitely wouldnt want to drive it on a long trip. This car is like its glued to the road which is good for handling but not for ride comfort. It rides like it doesnt have springs much like a Go-Kart. The road noise inside car is quite loud also. Power wise it has no problem for get up and go. Miata is probably the best bang for the buck as far as little sports cars go. When driving in heavy rain you better slow way down as this car will get scary as it will hydroplane easily.
