Overview & Reviews
For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.
- Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
- A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

Mazda MX5 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By Morris Hamm - August 25 - 1:30 pmGreat, fun car to have. Reliable, good fuel economy. Convertible top is easy to use and stow. Could have better interior storage.

Excellent revision of a great car - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By dousaems - July 17 - 3:46 pmThis vehicle is perfect for the times we live in, if you only need to transport yourself or one other person. It is comfortable, easy to drive, yet puts a silly grin on your face as soon as the go-pedal is pressed. The balance is great, and the car can easily be pushed to its limits without scaring the driver. The top is a dream to operate (I can put it up or down in 3-4 seconds), the mileage is beyond what is advertised, and the price is right! With the improved styling, Mazda may have more buyers than they think over the next year or so. This really is a practical car.

Most Fun Car Ever - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By G. Wayne Baggett - July 13 - 8:43 amI have owned the car a year now and have about 3500 miles on it. It is undoubtedly the most fun car I have ever owned or driven. Also the sexiest looking. The appearance of the 3rd generation version is a major improvement. The handling is exceptional. It could use a little more power and low end torque, but a turbo would fix that. Maybe a MazdaSpeed version in 2008. I wish I had waited a year and got the PRHT, but I would have sacrificed a year of great driving pleasure. You cant go wrong with value and fun for under $30K.

The new MX5 carries on Miata the legacy - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By michael - July 7 - 9:50 pmMy 6th and one of my favorite Miatas. This car has far exceeded the previous Miatas in power, comfort, and styling. The car looks and feels like A BMW Z4 but without the hefty price tag and even more of a blast to drive. With its easy to use top and laser like handling, this car blows away anything in its class; the Solstice could dream of being this much fun.

Im addicted to this car. - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By MarkInKC - June 2 - 12:50 amBought new, last years model. Its the car Ive always wanted. I drive it hard; I cant help it. I like the acceleration and the cornering (I read it corners at 9.1Gs). On a day when the temperature is in the 70s, with the top down, it feels *unbelievably* good.

I LOVE IT! - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By Toni - April 29 - 4:33 amI have only had my baby for 3 months now, but I am having so much fun driving it. I miss my Hondas better gas mileage (especially now), but its worth it to have such pleasure driving a car. I hope it proves to be as reliable as my two previous (new) Hondas (thus my 7 rating on that because I dont know yet). Thanks for making it not only so much fun, but affordable as well.

Love it! - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By s - April 22 - 12:43 amI was looking for a convertible I could afford since I live in sunny San Diego and I was getting depressed going to work and always missing the sun. So - I tried everything from the Jeep to the MINI convertible and ended up trying the Miata - and that was it! It was so nice and fun to drive and so much bigger than the 2005 model. Looks like an old British race car and I get a ton of compliments!

Wish I wouldve bought one sooner! - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By OC Brian - April 19 - 12:30 amMuch cheaper than a therapist...Excellent value in an automobile. Surprisingly comfortable; went for 3 hour ride and didnt feel "beat up" as expected. 6 speed manual gearbox easy to shift but ratios could be spaced a little farther apart. Build quality superb: No squeaks and rattles; much quieter than the Corvette I used to own. I prefer the Miata to the Corvette hands down; much better value for the dollar. Biggest complaint: Had to purchase a used donut spare tire as car originally fitted with run-flat tires that have subsequently been replaced with "regular" tires. Overall an excellent value and the top raises and lowers in seconds.

Driving isnt boring anymore - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata
By ValiantSailor - January 11 - 3:33 pmEver own a car so fun that you looked for excuses to go driving, or taking the long way home? Thats the Miata, or MX-5 as its now called. This car is so responsive it seems the driver can control it with thoughts alone. Light...predictable...responsive...FUN! All this and 30MPG, too!
