Overview & Reviews
With a highly focused lineup that consists of just three incredibly sumptuous touring cars, Maybach creates automobiles that are as exclusive as they are expensive. The vehicles are custom-built to each customer's taste. A long list of options, colors and interior furnishings can be applied to any vehicle, but you won't find a selection of popularly equipped Maybachs waiting on dealer lots. Instead, you must order your vehicle by visiting a Maybach dealer's "Commissioning Studio," housed within a Mercedes-Benz dealership.
The company's name comes from Wilhelm Maybach, one of Germany's first automotive engineers. He designed the first car that bore a Mercedes badge in 1901 and later collaborated with Graf Zeppelin to design and produce engines for the airships known as Zeppelins. With his engineer son Karl by his side, the automaker crafted the very first Maybach in 1919. Based on a Mercedes-Benz chassis, the Type W1 was an experimental project designed to give Maybach the opportunity to test-drive a few of his favorite engineering concepts. A couple of years later, the engineer evolved this prototype into a vehicle intended for public use -- the Maybach Type W3, which debuted at the Berlin Motor Show in 1921.
Other models followed. Unveiled in 1929, the Type Zeppelin DS 8 was one of the best-known Maybachs, and exhibited remarkable timelessness and durability. The car was powered by a 200-horsepower V12 and was capable of reaching a top speed of 93 mph. The company's 1936 limousine, the Type SW 38, offered luxurious seating for seven via five standard seats and two folding seats. As a brand, Maybach's epoch was short-lived, however. By 1941, production of Maybach automobiles ceased as the company shifted its focus to manufacturing engines for military, marine and rail purposes.
With considerable effort from Daimler-Benz, the Maybach brand was resurrected in 2003 with a lineup consisting of a pair of luxury sedan models, the 57 and the similar but longer 62. They were joined six years later by the ultra-posh Landaulet, the latter essentially a 62 with a soft top over the rear compartment that rolls back for quasi-convertible motoring. Today's Maybachs are handmade to customer order in Germany. As in the past, supremely luxurious interiors and extremely powerful and smooth power plants (in this case twin-turbo V12 engines) are the hallmarks of the marque. A price tag starting well into six-figure territory means that these are cars solely for those with mountains of money to spend. But the lucky few able to afford this luxury will find themselves cocooned in vehicles that offer the ultimate in automotive extravagance.

From an actual owner - 2004 Maybach 62
By Actual Maybach owner - May 8 - 4:50 amIve never contributed to one of these pages, but after reading the reviews posted here by supposed Maybach owners, I had to take the time to do this. My 62 is an 05, and it is the second one Ive had. The first one, an 04, was plagued by so many problems that Maybach bought it back from me after finally admitting they could not fix the numerous problems (too many to list here, but think of something a car has and it broke -- multiple times). I made the mistake of purchasing another, hoping for a different experience. Lets just say when I called the dealer to trade this car on something else, it was worth $120k less than I had paid 4 months earlier.

If You Build It, They Will Come - 2004 Maybach 57

Top of the line - 2004 Maybach 62
By DHarrisOrl - July 5 - 4:43 pmWith this vehicle, the designers thought of every imaginable luxury possible and than some. The exterior design is very modest and somewhat down plays to whats hidden inside and under the hood. The makers of this vehicle (a joint venture between Daimler Benz - Chrysler) created new auto-technology, leading the way in vehicle innovation from pre-crash technology to translucent material that illuminates by running a weak electrical current through it. The seating is spacious and the control of the rear environment is unsurpassed by any other luxury vehicle offered. You will NOT find another vehicle that offers what the Maybach offers. This vehicle renders all others, OBSOLETE... Derek :)

Quite Amazing - 2004 Maybach 62
By wonderful car - May 15 - 10:00 amThis is the most wonderful car i have ever purchased. The inside is a dream, confortable leather seats providing a large amount of leg room. Althogh the car is driven by my driver the ride feels smooth and the acceleration is a dream. The sound system offers top quality sound and the Teles placed in the back of the seats make that 6 hour ride even shorter!! i would recommmed this car to anyone that is if you can afford its price tag.. however it is money well spent

Its OK - 2004 Maybach 62
By FootDoctor - January 4 - 2:33 amMy Maybach is okay. Ive got too many cars anyway. Its not the "Crown Jewel" I thought it would be. Unfortunately, I still prefer my convertable Mondial (1992) to this car. I probably will keep it though - I do like rolling up to places in it, though the only people impressed are the people who know what it is (and they are usually guys, not girls). Maybach gets the nod, but I probable will not get another one. My S600 is equal in ride and speed. My SL55 is also just as nice a ride for a third of the cost. Still a "Mac Ride" though.

stunning - 2005 Maybach 57
By Sergio Calderon - November 21 - 1:23 pmMy first trip was from Redlands, Ca to Las Vegas Nevada after deciding I would drive it seemed the car grew on to me like my s600 but in a larger version. It was truely an experience; after the trip home the only work incurred to the vehicle was some good bug remover for the collection of bugs on the front end and a refill of waters and sodas to the fridge. It is most truely the flagship vehicle known to both man and Mercedes .The Maybach serves to be quite the coach with its asserting power of the V12 and ammenities to the executive or entertainer on the go it truly is great from its power and to its design.

From my point of view - 2004 Maybach 62
By Truthful - September 12 - 1:56 amI love my Maybach but, this is my business car, I used to own a Mercedes Benz 500 sel and to me they feel like almost the same car. Although the maybach is better it does burn a lot of gas compared to my other cars. It is not really that much fun to drive. It feels safe inside and handles like a limo. This a very good car, but not for someone who like the real driving experience.
