Lexus has earned a well-deserved reputation for turning out utterly refined luxury vehicles. The hallmarks of this brand are a quiet, well-crafted cabin, a plush ride and commendable performance from powerful, nearly silent engines.

Lexus began out of a desire by parent company Toyota to create a world-class luxury car brand. Groundwork for Lexus was laid in the mid-1980s, when the company began tapping U.S. focus groups in an attempt to define design concepts best suited for American consumers. Hundreds of prototypes were built and tested on Germany's autobahn and on U.S. roads.

In early 1989, the company unveiled its first two models (which would debut for the 1990 model year) -- the entry-level ES 250 sedan and the flagship LS 400 sedan. The LS 400 was lauded by both journalists and consumers alike for offering a stellar luxury-car experience, with a remarkably silent cabin, superb build quality and a refined V8 engine. At the same time, the LS was priced considerably lower than smaller, lesser-equipped, six-cylinder European rival luxury sedans.

By the early 1990s, the Lexus brand was expanded to other markets, including the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. More models were added to the lineup, including the SC 300 and SC 400 coupes and the brand's first luxury performance sedan, the GS 300. By decade's end, the company had added SUVs (in the form of the LX 450/LX 470 and RX 300) and had sold more than a million vehicles in the U.S.

The first decade of the 2000s saw Lexus proving itself a trend setter with the launch of many hybrid-powered versions of its vehicles such as the RX 400h and the GS 450h. And by 2011, Lexus even introduced a world-class supercar, the LFA.

In the years since its inception, the Lexus brand has distinguished itself time and again in quality and reliability surveys. The brand's vehicles may not offer as much passion as some Teutonic rivals, but for drivers interested in vehicles that emphasize quality, dependability and comfort, the Lexus marque is hard to beat.

We have had this vehicle just over a month an a 1/2. Amazing! Never owned a Lexus, but have been a loyal Toyota owner for years. Love the all the features, quietness, drive, style, and comfort of what a luxury SUV should feel like. I recommend a test drive of this and the new brand is amazing as well.

This auto is one of the best!! Lexus has done a fantastic job in conyinuing their pursuit of perfection! Having owned and driven this car for 9 months I have a keen idea of just how good this car is. Dont do the BMW or Benz until you have driven this car or you will be sorry

  • They Just Keep Getting Better - 2007 Lexus GX 470
    By -

This is my 5th Lexus, and I have previously owned the LX 470. My GX has almost all the great amenities the LX did, but because it is a little smaller, much easier to manuever. Not to sound sexist, but this vehicle fits a man. My wife likes it, but prefers her RX 350 AWD. And that is just fine with me! I am averaging just over 18 MPG. From my frame of reference, thats decent. If I had wanted great mileage, I would have bought a Prius. The ride is great, the stereo surround sound is great, and it is very quiet. What else could one ask for?

  • Fun to Drive - 2002 Lexus GS 300
    By -

I had just finished a bad experience with Jaguar and was looking for a sporty and fun to drive car that had that European flair.Looked at BMW but went back to Lexus only this time the GS 300 sportdesign model. I thought about the GS430 but figured the speeding tickets were not worth it. The GS300 is a great car, fast enough on the highway with a great ride and finish,if you can buy one.

  • Excellence on Wheels - 2001 Lexus ES 300

I am a former Volvo driver. After almost 8 years, I totaled mine and had to replace it in a week. Did my research and found the ES 300 to be the best car out there. My Volvo was reliable but never rode this nice. Though Ive had my Lexus only a few days, I love everything about it. It is quiet, responsive, extremely well appointed and ergonomically designed. It is a joy to drive. Mine had 32K miles when I purchased it and it runs smooth and quiet. Paid 21K. Great looking inside and out.

  • WOW!! - 2002 Lexus LS 430

I wanted the best big luxury vehicle for the money. Its a sleeper. Amazingly quiet. Ive had people tell me they cant even hear the engine when the car is on. At 100+ mph, the LS 430 commands the road. If I had to buy another car, then Id get another LS 430 in a heartbeat!

  • Best car on the road - 2004 Lexus ES 330

This car is the total package: Class, comfort, performance, amenities. Every time I walk to the car, I think to myself, "That is a good looking car." Have had numerous compliments on it as well. The car has plenty of power and the acceleration will get you out of alot of traffic situations. On a recent 600 mile trip, I averaged 30 MPG at 74 MPH. In mixed city/highway I get 22 MPG. With gas prices as high as they are, I am ecstatic about this. No matter how long I drive, I do not get cramped or tired. The car is very comfortable, extremely quiet and just a joy to drive. The stereo system "rocks" and is like having a concert in your car. All in all, one of the best cars on the road. Buy it

  • Touring Treasure! - 2003 Lexus LS 430

This car has engineering for comfort and safety and luxury without excess. For its original sticker price a fantastic value. I bought this as a clean used car with 44000 miles and it is at 68000 miles just like a brand new car. I upgraded the way it handles continuous curve driving, by my choice of tire. Really a dream car to own.

  • 70 year old Grandma loves this car! - 2016 Lexus NX 200t
    By -

We traded our 2010 RX450H for this 2016 NX200t. I couldnʻt be happier! The size is perfect for us. Being 11" shorter in length makes our garage storage more accessable. I love the color (red) with the camel interior. Also, all the technology is easy to set up by following the manual. The ride is ʻcusheyʻ and I love how it hugs the road. Canʻt wait to take it on a road trip.
