This Year's Model Updates:

Vehicle Skid Control (VSC), traction control and BrakeAssist safety technologies are now standard, as is water-repellant front door and sideview mirror glass. Lights front and rear are revised, and the grille has been changed to a simpler design with chrome accents and a larger Lexus badge. HID headlights and chrome-plated wheels are optional for 2001, the full-size spare is newly mounted to a matching alloy wheel and a larger 19.8-gallon fuel tank increases driving range. Inside, new cloth upholstery debuts and an all-black leather option is available. Chrome door handles and scuff plates emblazoned with the Lexus logo class up the joint, while an additional cupholder is available to rear-seat occupants. Optional for 2001 are a wood-trimmed steering wheel and wood trimmed shift knob. Two-level seat heaters are also available. A DVD-based navigation system is optional, with the contiguous U.S. mapped onto a single disc. Child seat-tether anchors and ISO-FIX bars have been added this year. Models with 4WD get prewiring for towing and a standard rear bumper protector. Four new colors round out the list of changes for 2001.

Pros:
  • Well-appointed interior, perfect road manners, smooth powertrain, purse holder.
Cons:
  • Allergic to major off-highway work, chintzy interior trim, dopey LCD screen in center of dash, feels more like a minivan than an SUV.

  • There is always one! - 2001 Lexus RX 300

Guess Im just the luck one. I have had nothing but problems, defective fuel guage, defective outside temp guage, cracked leather seat, scratched glass, over 25 paint chips, incomplete "clear bra" that resulted in more paint damage and parts replacement, dealer induced body damage. This is my second RX 300, and I regret the day I bougtht it!

  • OK Drive -- Overpriced - 2001 Lexus RX 300

Basically a Toyota with the "consumer- based" sales and marketing of Lexus. Fairly enjoyable car, but a bit overpriced for what you get. Definitely worth waiting for a used one after depreciation. Love the navigation system; dont get without it!

This is a very nice riding vehicle. For the most part reliable, but when it hits you, it hits you hard. Every since I have owned this vehicle, it has stumbled, sputtered, and fell on its face at random times of its own choosing. I have had it into the shop many times and most of the time they replace the components most likely to cause the problem based on the "codes" it throws. No fix. Ever. It is so unreliable, my wife says NEVER AGAIN will we buy Lexus. NOW, we find out that the transmission is going out (with regular maintenance given) and this is just the last straw. Its gonna cost us $4 grand to fix. Wow. Now Im even saying NEVER AGAIN. What a shame for such a nice vehicle.

  • First Lexus, Not the Last - 2001 Lexus RX 300

Our first SUV,purchased with 45k and factory certification to 100k. Great ride, handling a little mushy around corners, but good for SUV. Very comfortable, and we always "feel" the pleasure of a luxury riding vehicle. Very quiet ride. Did not get the NAV system, but am planning on purchasing top-of-the-line portable system. Have tested the new Acura MDX and BMW X5, and while nice cars, we still like the RX better. This is my wifes car, but I like it so much that Im buying a 2001 AWD RX Silversport with 33k, factory certified, sports suspension that handles curves better. I never buy new; let some other guy eat the depreciation.

  • 160,000 and still going strong - 2001 Lexus RX 300
    By -

I bought this vehicle used with 120k miles. Aside from oil changes and new tires, Ive only had to replace the belts. Ive put 40k miles on it over the past 2 years. If you jumped in and drove the vehicle without looking at the odometer, youd never know it had 160k miles. The ride is still comfortable and the engine runs strong. My Lexus has been good to me so far.

  • A Reliable SUV That Could Have Been - 2001 Lexus RX 300
    By -

Wow! That was my first impression driving this beauty after having two Jeep Grand Cherokees before this. It is smooth and quiet with seamless acceleration that seems adequate but not stellar. Its body lines are magnificent and its interior is well appointed and very well crafted. It has 94K miles on it now and if I didnt tell you that, I could fool you into believing it had 20K. No joke. It does have some unexcusable shortcomings, though. Something you dont expect out of Toyota. I will list those below.

  • If you want a plush ride... - 2001 Lexus RX 300
    By -

?รค a dependable safe family vehicle for Minnesota. We found it. The RX300 (after test driving many comparable vehicles in the same price range) has an extremely quiet and plush ride. The refinements in the cabin such as the audio system, the NAV system, and even the cup holders were well thought of and top quality. Our RX has 62000 miles, 36000 when we purchased it and we have not had any mechanical problems or electrical concerns to date. We would definitely buy this vehicle again.

  • Just loving the car - 2001 Lexus RX 300

Purchased an extended warranty too but never used. Just did a valve cover gasket change. But over all just love the car. Had no major problems. Has about 90k miles. If you keep the car maintain it will help a lot

  • Too new to really know, hope 4 best - 2001 Lexus RX 300
    By -

Everyone is really impressed with the Lexus. I had originally planned to trade my 2001 RAV4 for an 05 with several upgrades, but by the time it was all added up (and a few combos of features that I didnt care about added on) it was up to $27,000 +. So I asked about a similarly priced used SUV. Thats how I got the Lexus RX300 and it has a better warranty than the new RAV4 would. I do miss the sporty ride of the RAV4 5 speed, and center console of the RX300 is unduly complicated. My coffee mug and water bottle tend to tip in the cupholders. The body side molding on the RAV4 is perfectly positioned to catch any door dings. It doesnt look like the RX300 is. Dorschels great dealership!

  • Unmatched Quality and Reliabililty - 2001 Lexus RX 300
    By -

This by far is the most reliable car I have ever owned. Oil changes, tires and brakes only. The style, quiet ride and care-free maintenance has converted me to a Lexus fan for life! I keep wanting to buy a newer Lexus model but cannot justify getting rid of this SUV when it still runs and looks like new. My friends are shocked when they learn it is 8 years old and approaching 90k miles.
