Overview & Reviews
"While most owners of luxury SUVs will seldom put their vehicles to the ultimate test, LX owners can have the utmost confidence in their vehicle in poor weather or while fighting their way through the worst hazards of urban life." This philosophy was declared in the 1996 press kit for the original Lexus LX, a vehicle that kicked the luxury SUV craze up a few notches by decorating a Toyota Land Cruiser with added standard equipment like leather, wood trim, an upgraded stereo and a third-row seat. Although the automotive marketplace has changed considerably since then, today's Lexus LX 570 still follows the same philosophy.
Underneath the LX 570's organically robust styling resides a rough-and-ready, body-on-frame truck platform designed for serious off-road duty. Customers today are just as unlikely to venture onto muddy trails as they were back in the middle of the Clinton administration, but that hasn't stopped Lexus from stuffing a full range of sophisticated off-road-enabling technologies into its latest LX. At the same time, this is one of the most luxurious vehicles Lexus makes. As a vehicle that can do it all, the LX 570 is almost without peer.
Current Lexus LX 570
The Lexus LX 570 is powered by a 383-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. Mechanically, the LX 570 is heavily related to the Land Cruiser, and both boast tremendous off-road capabilities. In addition to its truck-based design, the LX 570 features a permanent four-wheel-drive system along with respectable wheel travel and ground clearance. There's also a new electronically controlled off-road Crawl Control mode. When this feature is activated, the 570 uses its antilock brakes and electronic throttle to fearlessly descend or ascend steep, slippery slopes. All the driver has to do is steer.
While dedicated off-road vehicles tend to behave like jittery behemoths on pavement, this Lexus is as civilized as it gets. Special to the LX 570 is an electronically controlled suspension with adaptive ride height and damping control that delivers the type of buttery-smooth ride expected of a Lexus.
Also expected of a Lexus is a wealth of luxury goodies, and as the brand's flagship SUV, the LX 570 is crammed like no other. Standard features include 20-inch wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, a power liftgate, power-sliding second-row seats, four-zone automatic climate control, a voice-activated hard drive navigation system, a rearview camera and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity. Optional highlights include a stupendous 19-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system, a chilled console bin, a rear-seat entertainment system, cooled front seats, heated rear seats and adaptive cruise control.
The Lexus LX 570 is also adorned in the finest interior trappings of its class. The leather upholstery is almost inconceivably supple, and the wood inlays are some of the richest you'll find at any price point. Other materials are similarly beyond reproach. The LX also offers seating for eight, although its rearmost row is suitable only for children and doesn't fold flat into the trunk floor. (Each piece of the split bench flips against the side walls at the press of a button.)
In reviews, we've found the Lexus LX 570 to be very good. But like its forbears, this Lexus is rather pricey. Much of the blame can be heaped upon the sophisticated off-road systems, so it's hard to justify this luxury SUV if you never plan on utilizing its many all-terrain talents. Competing models offer similar luxury, performance and accommodations for less money.
Used Lexus LX 570
The LX 570 debuted for 2008. Compared to the current model, those produced until 2011 (there was no 2012 model) featured slightly different styling and interior trim details. The instruments and trip computer display were also less advanced. Other changes of note were the upgraded navigation system for 2010, along with the addition of an iPod interface, Bluetooth streaming audio and Lexus Safety Connect emergency telematics.
Those interested in a previous-generation Lexus LX should look for the Lexus LX 470, which was sold from 1998-2007.

Another Fine Lexus Youve Got Me In! - 2009 Lexus LX 570
By David Mac - February 5 - 5:03 amThis is my 7th Lexus and my second LX (1st was 1998). This vehicle is SO much more than the previous model - and not only in price! I have physical limitations and this vehicle makes entry, exit and driving easy, easy, easy. Yes, the gas mileage is poor, but you just have to know that up front and move on. We also have an 07 GX which I would say is the better vehicle for the price. But I have trouble getting in and out of it. Still a great car. My LX has ALL the options. Some seem absurd (i.e., unnecessary), but we are learning to use them all. I love the no key function (again, an ease of entry issue), AND especially the air cooled seats. Anyone will enjoy this if you can get over price.

Overpriced gas-guzzling clunky dinosaur! - 2018 Lexus LX 570
By Anonymous - October 24 - 11:57 amOne word to describe this SUV compared to others in its class would be: Overpriced. You are simply NOT getting anything worth it’s hefty tag of $100K! Let’s start with what it is LACKING that SUV’s 1/2 its price have.....NO Lane Assist, NO Panoramic Sunroof or Power Sunshade (manual only), NO Quiet Cabin (I clearly hear all road noise and the super irritating noise of the fans whenever the cooled/heated seats or cabin controls are on anything but low...(no excuse for this CHEAP design), NO Touch Pad screens, NO Color Changing Ambient Lighting, NO Choice of Engines, NO Keypad for phone dialing, NO Easy Interface (I am very good with technology but this thing is a joke), NO Rear USB ports, NO Digital Clock (only a hard-to-read analog one). In addition, it has poor leg room in the third due to bad floor design, Poor Cargo Space due to poorly designed folding seats, and ready for this one???!???...it comes with a car starter, but you only get to use it for ONE YEAR before they force you to pay for their Lexus Enform App to keep it going! NO yearly $300 App = NO Starter!! The drive is so clunky and tipsy around turns that I would compare it to navigating a tall cinder block on lego wheels. Oh, and the split truck is actually a big pain b/c they “forgot†to add power to the lower hatch, so if you have something heavy in your arms, you have to set it on the ground to manually open the dang lower trunk first! The controls are in horrible spots (coffee cups will block the single USB port and phone “cubbyâ€, no other place for your phone. I have to constantly take my eyes of the road to try to navigate through the dinosaur limited options screen and buttons. Seriously, every question I have for Lexus on if there is something I might be missing, is met with a resounding NO! Unless you think it is ok to pay $100K for a vehicle that raises and lowers (no big deal since many other SUV’s do this too), and you’re OK with getting 10MPG b/c they didn’t bother to improve consumption, then save yourself from this headache and buy something else. Anything else.

Great in some ways, but definite issues - 2017 Lexus LX 570
By Chris K. - July 19 - 10:39 pmNice large vehicle with good safety features such as numerous, well distributed airbags. I consider the 6000 pound weight a bit of a safety feature as well. Has a number of issues which would place this vehicle between a 3 and 4 star rating for me. I had a 2011 model which I traded for a 2016. The engine in the newer model is more sluggish, and if a more rapid acceleration is desired, the engine sounds like a 4 cylinder that is about to throw a rod. The 2011 engine and transmission strangely seemed quite superior. This is usually sold with the 21 inch wheels, and as I found out after purchase, that Dunlop is the only manufacturer of a tire this size. Not a very good tire and I am at this moment in my 3rd week without being able to drive my car because the tires are nationally on a back order. The vehicle is sitting at my Lexus dealer, who doesnt really know what to tell me at this point. The screens for watching television in the back seat stick so far off of the backs of the front seats that they encroach on the headspace of the rear seat passengers. I found this almost scary when I sat in the back seat. Anti-lock brake mechanism is not smooth and if hard braking is required, the tires seem to skip around on the road. Not sure how much of this is due to the tire quality versus the anti-lock quality.

The only SUV that matters - 2017 Lexus LX 570
By db - December 31 - 2:49 pmI have a 2017 LX 570 and this is my third LX dating back to 2002. My previous vehicle was a 2006 LX; I absolutely love the upgrades both internally and externally. I would not comment on the mpg as a negative--especially considering this is a full-time four-wheeled drive vehicle that weighs over 7,000 lbs--poor mpg is to be expected. I considered purchasing a Mercedes G Wagon or a Range Rover Autobiography...regardless of the curb appeal for those vehicles, none can compare to the LXs reliability and resale value. Having an attractive SUV that only looks good but cannot withstand the test of time (unreliable) is an oxymoron. I look forward to additional LX upgrades in time. The only SUV that matters.

The LX 570 is a TANK wearing velvet gloves - 2015 Lexus LX 570
By R. C. Miller - June 2 - 2:30 amWhen my mechanic and I went to change the oil for the first time, a normal 40 minute oil change became over an hour and 45 minutes with the required removal of 19 bolts of 3 different sizes and 4 underside skid/aero panels. So regular mechanics bills for day-to-day stuff will be expensive. But this machine is screwed together better than the best GMC Suburbans (Ive owned 2) and Cadillacs (Ive owned 6) out there and it is a really fine car. And if you can afford the purchase price, you can afford the mediocre gas mileage. If I have to be in a car during a severe crash, this is the car to be in. Strongly recommend this machine. (After over one and a half years of ownership and about 31,000 miles, i am still convinced that this LEXUS, the LX 570 and my 2 previous Lexus sedans -- a 2012 LS 460 all wheel drive and a 2006 LS 430 -- are the best built cars I have ever purchased. I have purchased over 20 NEW cars in my short happy life and at least 10 used cars, to include antiques, and these big Lexus V-8s are quality cars that drive and perform superbly. OF NOTE, my 16 MPG gas mileage has IMPROVED now that the engine is fully worn in and we often get 18-19 MPG at speeds of 70+ mph).

Palace on Wheels - 2008 Lexus LX 570
By bains - February 22 - 8:13 amI looked hard for a comfortable, 7 seat, safe, luxury vehicle for family and work. RangeRover, CayenneTurbo were the competing vehicles if I could work with a five-seater. Benz GL and BMW X5 are not as plush with reliability. However in the seven seater range, there is no other competition for this vehicle. It has excellent power for its size, comfortably able to pass rapidly at highway speeds and good torque at take-off. It has more body roll than my old LexusGX470 with KDSS. However, when you push it on cornering and challenging courses, it is sure-footed. Ride is quiet. The interior is lexus high end sedans plush. Technology and off-road features are impressive
