Overview & Reviews
While the idea of an environmentally responsible luxury car may sound like a contradiction, Lexus hoped to prove otherwise with its HS 250h. Smaller than the automaker's midsize ES 350, the Lexus HS 250h was powered by a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain that was more potent than that of a Prius. The result was fairly lively performance and good fuel economy.
As for luxury, the Lexus HS 250h had a relatively roomy interior, plus the expected number of high-end features. But this distinctive combination never really clicked with consumers, and Lexus ended production after a short three-year run. As a used model, the HS 250h is an agreeable choice, but keep in mind that it is a car of compromise; you can get better fuel economy from a dedicated hybrid or greater comfort and performance from a traditional small or midsize luxury sedan.
Most Recent Lexus HS 250h
The Lexus HS 250h was produced from 2010 through 2012 and was virtually unchanged throughout its brief run. It came in base and Premium trim levels. Both were powered by a hybrid powertrain that married a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 187 horsepower. The combination drove the front wheels via a specialized continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The entry-level HS 250h was well-equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, keyless ignition/entry, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth and a 10-speaker audio system with six-CD changer, satellite radio and an iPod/USB audio interface. The Premium model added 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming outside mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, genuine wood trim and upgraded leather upholstery.
Options included a front and rear parking camera system, adaptive LED headlights, a head-up display, a premium audio system and a hard-drive-based navigation system that also delivered real-time weather forecasts, traffic conditions, sports scores and stock prices.
In reviews, we found that the Lexus HS 250h offered a distinctive middle ground in terms of the performance and fuel economy trade-off. Compared to the typical entry-level luxury sedan, both acceleration and handling were lackluster. Yet the HS did perform better than the Prius, and fuel economy was decent, with a 35 mpg rating in city driving.
Inside, the HS 250h was handsome and comfortable, with a decent amount of head- and legroom for four adults. While the good-sized trunk would easily swallow a pair of golf bags and a couple of modest-size suitcases, the lack of fold-down rear seatbacks limited its cargo-carrying flexibility.

HS250 Blinker low sound - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By jackieauclair - May 3 - 12:10 pmHave had the car for three days and am annoyed that the blinker has hardly any sound. Is this true of other owners? Dealer has said it cant be made louder, yet in our other non hybrid Lexus, it is quite loud. We love the Lexus line and this is our third Lexus. Car does need more storage, but well manage.

Dedicated hybrid with style - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By tmckean - December 5 - 4:23 amWe got this to replace our IS 250 AWD. Seat comfort is wonderful as is the ride. Rear seating is entirely adequate for a smallish car. Trunk holds golf clubs and luggage and is adequate. Features associated with the NAV system just make the car a joy to be in. Very good visibility inside. Acceleration is adequate and even generates a bit of torque steer. The car is pretty cool looking and, in other words, a hybrid that satisfies someone who enjoys a nice car with a lot of features.

Moved up from a Prius - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By Lawrence - November 26 - 6:40 amThis is my first Lexus. Generally, Im very happy with the HS250. The car is comfortable, handles well and is a delight to drive. I love all the gadgets! Fortunately, the Lane Keep Assist alerts me if I spend more time on the accessories than concentrating on driving. Gas mileage has been exceptional! Highway driving is consistently in the area of 42-45 MPH. City driving falls to the mid 30s. Unfortunately, the car is a bit noisy on some roads and during rapid acceleration. Also, the cabin lacks storage "cubbies" and convenient cup holders. All considered, Im glad I bought the HS250 and feel comfortable in recommending it to others.

Enjoying it more and more each day - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By cody - October 21 - 3:03 amIve had my HS(with navigation/backup camera) for just over a month now. Really enjoying all of the tech and the luxury features I missed on my 08 Accord - like the reverse down mirrors and backup camera. Some like it and some dont, but I really like the look and style of it. I have got 3 compliments and several "look at that new Lexus". I am getting on average 35.3 mpg, just as promised. Im glad I switched to the only dedicated lux hybrid in the market.

By djadmd - October 9 - 8:33 amJust got this car and love it. The technology is unbelievable. Drives great, lots of power for a hybrid. I moved from a BMW to Lexus, so much more for the money. Look forward to driving it for many years to come.

The Little Things - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By Jess - July 28 - 7:46 amThis is my 4th Lexus. Traded in 07 Acura MDX 14-16mpg city so 35mpg is welcomed. Car handles well and has a smooth ride. The controls on the steering wheel column are not illuminated, nor are the garage open/close buttons on the rear view mirror...its the little things! The tech package is fun to use. Storage is a problem. With all the manuals in the glove box theres not much room for anything else. Center console box is very small. Steering wheel feels cheap. Fit and finish is what to expect from Lexus. Navi system is easy to use as is Bluetooth. The map screen & the audio info will not display @ the same time, ie: station and song info, etc.. its the little things.

Loving the Lexus - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By lexus_newby - March 29 - 9:16 amI have owned the HS for two weeks now. I enjoy the quality of the car. I ordered the base model instead of the premium model. The leather seats are not perforated and tend get you hot. The seats are perforated and would keep you cooler. The base model also does not have the ability to retain the seat position, if you have more than one drive you may need this. If I had to do it again I would purchase the premium model. There is virtually no storage the large manual takes up 75% of the glove compartment and the middle console is extremely small. It may sound like I have a lot of complaints but the car is the best car Ive owned. Love the drive, interior most everything. Getting 35+ city/Hiway.

Best Car Ive Owned - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By Marty - March 13 - 11:36 pmDespite the reviews, the car handles well and the brakes were easy to get used to. I got the technology package and the navigation. Both are awesome and easy to use. I am getting over 40 mpg in combined city/highway driving. The seats are very comfortable. The acceleration is fine. I purchased the car for $2000 below the sticker price. I am thrilled with this car!

One SMART auto - 2010 Lexus HS 250H
By charliedatuna - November 17 - 10:56 amThis car is in a class by itself. There is nothing even close to it. I tried the Prius and it struggles to get up to speed with the rest of the pack and its too noisy. The HS250h is quiet, smart, and has all the bells and whistles (and then some) that my GS 300 had. Lexus really thought about what could make this a great car, and they succeeded. For example the NAV screen can tilt in 3 different angles to allow one to read it in the event of glare, so you no longer need to remove your sunglasses to read it. The bluetooth technology is amazing. Talking hands free is like being there in person. The Park button is really cool and different. Overall, this is a great car and the styling is great!
