Model Overview:

Eleanor Rigby and Father McKenzie were some lonely people forgotten by the world and if around today, they'd probably drive a Kia Amanti. This largely anonymous large sedan from Korea was frequently overlooked by folks who otherwise ended up buying something like a Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300 or Toyota Avalon. As far as we know, even Sir Paul McCartney hasn't noticed it.

The Amanti's rarity resulted from its awkward styling, flaccid performance and Kia's below-average name recognition when it comes to higher-end cars. Kia did address some of the Amanti's more immediate shortcomings in the second-generation model, but in general most used-car shoppers should probably check out more established large sedans before settling on an Amanti.

Most Recent Kia Amanti
The second-generation Kia Amanti was produced from 2007-'09. Although the exterior looked remarkably similar to the previous car's, it cloaked a complete redesign. A modified chassis yielded significant weight loss and improved handling, while most notably, the company dropped the original 200-horsepower V6 in favor of a new 3.8-liter, 264-hp V6.

This Amanti was available in one trim level. A two-tone interior color scheme along with subdued wood and metallic accents and comfy seats should please those looking for a low-priced luxury car. Standard equipment was comprehensive. When optioned out, the Amanti featured such niceties as leather upholstery, heated power front seats with memory, power-adjustable pedals and a nine-speaker stereo with six-CD changer. Some higher-end features, however, like a navigation system, weren't available.

The standard 3.8-liter V6 provided 264 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque. Power was sent to the front wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. Antilock brakes and a full array of airbags were standard; traction and stability control were optional. Shoppers would be wise to make sure a specific Amanti they may be interested in features these electronic aids.

We were always impressed with the Kia Amanti's equipment levels, ample space and low price. However, its handling was not particularly impressive, with the car's suspension sometimes getting uncomfortably upset when driven quickly over bumps. Overall, the Amanti's road manners were acceptable, but more discerning full-size-sedan buyers will prefer the added capability and refinement of the Kia's competitors. Although styling is a subjective quality, the car's lack of cohesive design and odd, sewer-grate grille didn't do it any favors either.

Past Kia Amanti Models
The original Kia Amanti ran from 2004-'06. It featured a 3.5-liter V6 good for only 195 hp, upgraded to 200 hp the following year. Compared to the newer Amanti, this generation was heavier and featured a more flaccid structure. Handling was even worse and its suspension was less sophisticated. Several features were added as its life went on, including an optional leather package in 2005. Judging by our lukewarm reaction to the current car, it should be no surprise that we think less highly of the original.

I purchased a Used 2004 Kia Amanti in Oct 2012. I will write reviews at inspection, six months, and after one year of driving. I test drove 3 2004 Amanti cars. One with 146000 miles; One with 118000 miles; and One with 155000 miles. The base model drove like it needed an alignment-had it inspected for $100 by a kia dealership. Yes, it needed alignment, valve cover gaskets, and timing belt changed. No I didnt buy it. The 118000 miles car drove like it was on its last leg-so I didnt get it. The 155000 mile Amanti drove like it was just coming off the showroom floor. I drove it home today - 120 miles. So far it is wonderful! I love the design and comfort of this car.

  • Love my Amanti - 2005 Kia Amanti

Ive owned Cadillacs, Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans. I absolutely love this car. It rides as smooth and quiet as a Cadillac, but came with more great options than a Caddy at twice the price. Ive had to have the computer tweaked once. Comfort is an absolute plus. I can drive for 5 hours and not be remotely tired (and Im 60). The Infinity sound system is very good, but, yes, a Bose is better. The warranty program is excellent and Kia certainly stands behind their product. Handling could be a tad better, but you quickly get the feel of it. I have to admit, I took KIA off the trunk and changed the wheel covers, which has generated many questions as to what kind of car is it. I love it.

I drove SUVs for 15 years, now that I have an Amanti, I cant stand to even get in an SUV! It was time for a little luxury and the Amanti offers that and lots more. Love my Amanti.

  • This vehicle is incredible - 2004 Kia Amanti

Despite the lack of horsepower that the big three have on their vehicles, customers definitely wont be disappointed with this vehicle. My family and I took this vehicle on a road trip a few weeks ago and were amazed on the smoothness of the ride the Amanti offered. I really hope people dont fall for the name game and let a smooth talking saleperson from Toyota, Nissan, or Honda talk them out of this quality vehicle. The only thing these other companies could said negative about the Amanti is the resale value. This doesnt matter to me because I keep my vehicles for a long time anyway. The Kia Amanti gives you big bang for your buck$.

  • So glad I bought it! - 2005 Kia Amanti

How can you beat this car at this price! It rides great, is extremely comfortable and has all the features I wanted. I traded in a Lincoln Continental which was a great car but Im glad I did. Love the Cream Gold color with the Black interior - it looks soooo rich. I work at a professional service firm and I cant believe how many people have made positive comments about my new sweet ride! Cant wait to have a reason to go somewhere. I open the moon roof, turn on the fantastic Infinity stereo system and Im in heaven!

I have really enjoyed owning my Kia Amanti. It looks so sharp! My husband and I took it on vacation right after we bought it, and we received many compliments from other travelers when we stopped for gas, food, etc.

  • not bad - 2005 Kia Amanti

Overall not too bad of a car. Have a strange clicking when turning in reverse. Interior is real nice, need to make a change to the exterior rear of auto - too plain looking, doesnt go with the nice front end.

  • Awsome car - 2005 Kia Amanti

The car rides like a dream. The sound system is incredible and the interior looks like a car costing at least twice as much. Coming almost fully loaded for under $25,000, people want to know where I got the money for such an expensive car. I just laugh an tell them I hit the lottery. Sweet car all the way around.

This is truly a girls car! I love driving and showing everyone my beautiful Amati!!! People stop and ask me what kind of car is that? They are impressed that its a Kia. They want to know all about it and the guys want the check out under the hood! The ride and drive is right up there with Cadillac and other great classic autos,as I have owned them too. The Amati has all the power you need on the road and handles beautifully. It is a pleasure to own such a wonderful auto at the most competitive price out there. I do look forward to my next Amati. ps.The gas mile is also very good! Thanks Betty C
