Model Overview:

Eleanor Rigby and Father McKenzie were some lonely people forgotten by the world and if around today, they'd probably drive a Kia Amanti. This largely anonymous large sedan from Korea was frequently overlooked by folks who otherwise ended up buying something like a Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300 or Toyota Avalon. As far as we know, even Sir Paul McCartney hasn't noticed it.

The Amanti's rarity resulted from its awkward styling, flaccid performance and Kia's below-average name recognition when it comes to higher-end cars. Kia did address some of the Amanti's more immediate shortcomings in the second-generation model, but in general most used-car shoppers should probably check out more established large sedans before settling on an Amanti.

Most Recent Kia Amanti
The second-generation Kia Amanti was produced from 2007-'09. Although the exterior looked remarkably similar to the previous car's, it cloaked a complete redesign. A modified chassis yielded significant weight loss and improved handling, while most notably, the company dropped the original 200-horsepower V6 in favor of a new 3.8-liter, 264-hp V6.

This Amanti was available in one trim level. A two-tone interior color scheme along with subdued wood and metallic accents and comfy seats should please those looking for a low-priced luxury car. Standard equipment was comprehensive. When optioned out, the Amanti featured such niceties as leather upholstery, heated power front seats with memory, power-adjustable pedals and a nine-speaker stereo with six-CD changer. Some higher-end features, however, like a navigation system, weren't available.

The standard 3.8-liter V6 provided 264 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque. Power was sent to the front wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. Antilock brakes and a full array of airbags were standard; traction and stability control were optional. Shoppers would be wise to make sure a specific Amanti they may be interested in features these electronic aids.

We were always impressed with the Kia Amanti's equipment levels, ample space and low price. However, its handling was not particularly impressive, with the car's suspension sometimes getting uncomfortably upset when driven quickly over bumps. Overall, the Amanti's road manners were acceptable, but more discerning full-size-sedan buyers will prefer the added capability and refinement of the Kia's competitors. Although styling is a subjective quality, the car's lack of cohesive design and odd, sewer-grate grille didn't do it any favors either.

Past Kia Amanti Models
The original Kia Amanti ran from 2004-'06. It featured a 3.5-liter V6 good for only 195 hp, upgraded to 200 hp the following year. Compared to the newer Amanti, this generation was heavier and featured a more flaccid structure. Handling was even worse and its suspension was less sophisticated. Several features were added as its life went on, including an optional leather package in 2005. Judging by our lukewarm reaction to the current car, it should be no surprise that we think less highly of the original.

  • Best Kept Secret in Imports - 2005 Kia Amanti
    By -

Finishing up seven months of ownership on this vehicle and I can honestly say that the Q45 Infinity that I traded is a distant memory. The build quality, fit and finish, ride and performance are everything that I expected and more! Still a head-turning style (a big part of the decision to buy) and now more recognized as the quality vehicle it is, this has got to be the bargain of the decade. Luxury AND affordability in the same package. Im gonna make sure I own some KIA stock.

  • Good deal in the long run - 2004 Kia Amanti

I have owned my Amanti for less than one year and less than 2k miles. But so far the car has surpassed my expectations. This might be because I understand it is not of Lexus/Infinity level. Even Kia admits this. However it does rival my previous 02 Lincoln Town Car. I purchased this car because I was looking for a long term car to drive for many years. After researching Consumer Reports I found newer Kia/Hyundia models to be comparable, if not more reliable than domestic brands (still no threat to to Japan). Kias worst flaw is its resale value, thats why I would not recommend one if you plan to sell it in 1-3 yrs. But w/ a long warranty and near-luxury design and standard options, Im more than happy.

  • LOVE THIS AMANTI - 2005 Kia Amanti

The Amante appears to be constructed extremely well, it has 4 wheel disk brakes with ABS - the suspension is excellent so the ride is very smooth. The sensation of speed is almost undetectable partly due to variable power steering. Tires are rated at 130 mph which offers peace of mind at highway speeds. The airbags, total of 8, offer protection I have not seen in even other luxury cars. Also impressed with the alignment of sheet metal and the cars exterior finish (paint job). We have the silver color and very rich in appearance. Car seems to be very well enginered - I was impressed.

I love this car. Never in my life would I have bought a Kia until I rented the Amanti. I returned the rented car on a Monday and Tuesday I drove off the lot with the Amanti. For those of you who can not afford a Full Size Luxury Vehicle, run, dont walk to your nearest Kia Dealer because now you can afford one and you wont be disappointed

  • Bye Lincoln, Hello Amanti - 2004 Kia Amanti
    By -

I reciently traded in my Lincoln Continental for a new Amanti and I love it. The style in younger and more updated than any other car in its class and it has all the aminities that my Linclon had. The price was excellent and it came fully loaded. It drives like a dream with good pick-up, turning radius and comfort. For the price you cant beat it and the 5 year bumper to bumper coverage makes it worth trying something new and exciting.

  • My 2nd One - still have first - 2008 Kia Amanti
    By -

I have a 2007 with 42,000 miles and my wife loves my car. Bought her a 2008 in black with ALL the options. The cars are identical except color - defrosting outside mirrors and a back seat pass thru. Hers has zero wind noise with the sun roof interior slider pulled back and mine has just a little. My car has not rattled -squeeked or anything else since I bought it. I drove this car from S.C. to Mobile and it was perfect. I like the exterior of the Hyundai model better but the interior of this car is much nicer. Buy it - you will like it

The Amanti is just super. The leather interior is soft and supple. The Infinity Sound System with the 6 C.D. changer is really nice. This is the most comfortable car I have owned. Its fun to drive and it looks classy. Im so glad I picked this car.

I drove SUVs for ten years, but gave them up to get this car. The Electronic Stabitlity Package gives me peace of mind.Im getting great gas mileage. It really is a fantastic car. I think its a very safe car, also, with steel beams in the door and multiple air bags.

Bought used w/6970 mi.on it(told it was a salesmans who leased a new one).Got home & on parking in driveway noticed light on dash, brake light was out! Went back it was replaced, but this was just the start!!Have since replaced 17 bulbs on this car!!! Car was checked & was told nothing wrong, its normal on Kias,& theres a lot of electronics on the vehicle. Each time nothing wrong is found, it costs me $92,so much for the warranty!! Lightbulb replacement cost $35-$40,since you cant get to them w/out removing half the frontend. Have had bottom of seats, bushings, rear support brackets and shifter all replaced, all taking 2 visits to do,as have to wait for parts! Im upside down & have to keep.
