This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • Cant figure this thing out? - 2005 Jeep Liberty

When I bought my Liberty I made the mistake of thinking I was getting a nice new smooth running vehicle. Well not exactly, I bought and Jeep and thats what I got. While its been reliable, very useful for hauling things and plenty powerful, it can also be somewhat annoying. In my opinion it has too many squeaks and rattles for such a new vehicle - or maybe it is just one of my OCDs. Bottom line, if you want a vehicle that is truly ready to go offroad straight off the lot and want a true Jeep, then this is the SUV for you. If you like the more cushy and refined driving experience then you should look at one of the more car like SUVs

Bought the Liberty due to driving 36k miles a year and half of them in inclement weather. This Jeep rocks! It is awesome in the snow and ice and no.... there is not a slide factor! Beefy, rugged and so beautiful. Im a Liberty girl for life!

The reason I wanted a Jeep Liberty was for more space. Ive always wanted a Red Vehicle and the little Liberty came out and I knew I wanted one. They have lots of extra space and are very comfortable. My grandkids think its great also. I just got it for my Christmas gift. I have had no trouble with it.

  • Nice upgrade from Wrangler - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Bought the Liberty after owning a Wrangler for a few years. Its a nice upgrade with more room and a quieter ride. I choose to buy another Jeep because of the quality of my last one, and because my husband is military, so we travel long distances to visit our relatives and therefore tend to have a higher mileage than usual. From my experience Jeeps handle higher mileage well so this vehicle works well for us.

  • Fun to drive, strong vehicle, true Jeep - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Purchased a 2005 Liberty 4x4 6cylinder auto after my 2002 was totaled in an accident with a bus. Liberty was broadsided by NJ Transit bus and in turn crashed into four parked cars. Although the vehicle was totaled, my wife and one year old child were unharmed. Family is alive because they were in a heavy vehicle. A truly strong, safe, vehicle. Highly dependable on road as well as off road. I recommend the Liberty to all without reservations.

  • Practical and Fun - 2005 Jeep Liberty

As we shopped, we drove every vehicle in the class but were blown away by the gap between the "Liberty" and even its closest rival. A solid machine with plenty of leg room and cargo space and still fun to drive. We initially had a problem with a transmission computer but since that was corrested...it has been nothing but pleasure to own. We took a 2000 mile drive up north for Christmas and it handled the road and the passengers with ease and in comfort (although a bit more seat padding would be appreciated.) My Navigator is still the more comfortable of our two cars but it ought to be for twice the cost.

This vehicle has had so much replaced on it that its hard to tell whats original. Both front control arms, all brake components (twice), radio, Hub- locks. This is a vehicle that has been babied since day one and never misses a service appointment. From a reliability stand point, this vehicle is a disaster. All of this before 60K miles....I dont know what were going to do when the warranty is up.

This is by far the best SUV out there. Especially the 23 mpg average. Plenty of power...good handling, and looks good.

  • JEEP LIBERTY SPORT 4X4 COMMAND TRAC - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Just purchased; more room inside than I had imagined, needs hooks for jacket, and move mirror adjust -- a little cramped to get at. Four wheel drive is the easiest I have ever used; just finished using it this afternoon, no binding - easy steer - no fuss. V6 a very strong engine; plenty of power good torque. Too many controls on stalk. Many neat features; CD is great, radio could use some more watts (power output), six speaker system best I have heard in standard radios in a long time. Enough; still new to this Jeep but like it very much, will rate after owning it for awhile.

  • My First Non-Honda - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

We have owned at least one Honda in our family since 1978. When it came time to buy an S.U.V., we naturally looked at Element and CR-V. We also looked at Jeep Liberty. Friends are amazed that my steadfast consumer loyalty was upended by a Non-Honda. We are finding the Jeep Liberty to be fun to drive, a tough performer, and of course one of the cutest vehicles on the road. 6 CD changer, Infinity speakers, moon-roof, Command-Trac. Options all well worth it. I only wish I had gone with the upgraded wheels. Not as economical on gas as Honda, but hey...what price beauty?
