This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Purchased new in early Jan. 30k miles later Jeep went to dealership only once for mud blockage in condenser (not under warranty). Air vents do not close, window switches located on middle console. Other than that, its of great quality. No problems at all, except there could be improvements on minor details.

  • Fun, Small but Stains wont come out! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I wanted a Jeep Liberty for a couple years before I finally bought one! I traded in my Honda Civic when I became pregnant, thinking it would provide more much needed room! It didnt! Very little room for any passengers once you get a car seat in there! And the seats stain EASILY from anything! Especially any kind of liquid! If your drink sweats, dont let it touch the seat! The stains look horrible and nothing gets them out!!!

An SUV with all the needs. I love it. Better than a Wrangler because its not only providing the ruggedness in performance and in looks it can also be souped up with some classy features. it rides pretty smooth for a Jeep that can perform on some extreme trails.

I was looking for a small SUV that would give me good fuel mileage; the turbo diesel answered. Jeep did it right - it is a lot of fun to drive. The ride is a little stiff. If I wanted a silky smooth ride I would have bought a car. This is the 3rd Jeep I have owned and by far the best.

Well, this is truly fun to drive, with a stiffer but comfortable ride. Interior is well designed. The cloth seats are of excellent quality, appearance, and comfort. This is the first 4WD I have had and its GREAT. Gets through snow and ice covered roads deliciously. Have about 700 miles on it, and I am getting better than 18mpg; not bad. My wife and I battle over who gets to drive it. (I win most of the time, Im the boss and she said I could say that. PS: good power with the 3.7l!

Fun to drive. Informative, useful console info (tire pressure, average gas mileage, miles to empty, etc.). Heated leather seats are great and comfortable.

  • BEST CAR EVER OWNED!!! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I bought my jeep in 2009 with only 33,000 miles on it. I havent had a single problem with it since the day Ive gotten it, and I love it so much! Ive had cars in the past that were awful, and my jeep is truly dependable and reliable. My family has owned jeeps, and will never own anything but Jeeps! If you are looking for value for your dollar, the Jeep Liberty Sport is worth every penny!

After owning 3 Limited/Grand Cherokees, the Liberty is a solid disappointment. The gas gauge and oil lights go off/on randomly. There is a wheel rub noise at low speeds. The dealer cant fix it.Chrysler doesnt care. The seat sits 2 inches too high and doesnt adjust. The door locks are right where you want to rest your arm. The Sirius radio is static prone.

The vehicle is fun to drive and quite nice in appearance. Problems are with the transmission. At random times the check engine light has illuminated and the transmission goes into "limp home" mode. The dealer has replaced several parts and changed programs in the computer. Ongoing problems are delayed shifting, excessive slipping during shifting, random up and down shifting, and lurching at random times. The fuel economy is not as advertised. The city driving fuel economy would improve if the transmission shifted correctly. I have brought these transmission issues up with the dealer and they maintain the transmission is operating per specification. No joy regarding a solution!
