This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Very stable handling; drives as if youre in complete control of your driving. Has great lights for night driving - can see full vision with great side mirrors. We thought the Jeep dealer did a great job at explaining all about our new purchase. I think the exterior looks of this model is going to be a great seller for the baby boomers out there! Thank you.

  • Brakes - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have had concerns with the rear brakes so took it to Codiroli Service department. They checked it out and said they couldnt find anything wrong. Continued to feel something wrong with the way my car was acting when I used the brakes. Also, had a noise coming from the rear of the car. Sounded like something was moaning. This noise is loud when I first start driving and than gets less loud after I have driven it a few miles. Took car in for first service (3,000 mile) and was told there is a recall for the brakes but cant fix them until the recall notices have been sent out. I find this very upsetting.. This problem should be fixed immediately. Why do I have to wait? Other than this I like my car.

This is the best vehicle I have ever owned and I am 64. It has unique convenient controls like the radio buttons on the steering wheel. It is a ball to drive and was pleasantly surprised at the riding comfort for a smaller SUV. I would strongly recommend it to anyone on a budget.

  • My 2005 Jeep Liberty - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We love our Jeep Liberty. It is sporty and fun to drive. Only drawbacks are interior noise when driving, especially on the highway. The major drawback for me is the gas mileage. I do mostly in town driving and it averages about 15-17 miles per gallon. On the highway it averages about 23 miles per gallon. It is a V6, so I guess thats not too terrible, but with gas prices hovering anywhere from 2-3 dollars per gallon, it hurts to have to fill it so frequently. Another drawback is the glove compartment is so small the owners manual doesnt even fit in it. Not much for extra storage space either.

  • Have Fun - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have put on more than 113,000 miles in the 2.5 years I have had my Liberty. The only thing I have had to do is the standard oil changes and new tires. My Liberty is still tight all around and everything still feels new. I cant believe it myself. I will definitely get another Liberty after this one.

  • Jeep Liberty CRD - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Ive only got 1000 miles on my CRD but know its very solid and rattle free. I also love the ride -- firm; feels more like a Lexus 300 to me. I had an Escape and it was "tinny" by comparison. The Liberty quality is much better than the Escape. Turning radius is unbelievable! My diesel mileage to and from work (mixed highway and town) is 23 mpg. Looking forward to road trip this month.

When I first bought my Liberty I loved it, or so I thought. In the year that I have had it I feel unsafe in it at times. I do not speed, I do the speed limits as recommended however there are times when it feels like it could just roll over. Almost as if it were top heavy. The gas mileage is very bad. Yes I do drive 80 miles a day and of course when I bought it the gas prices were not so high. I have to continue to keep the Jeep or I would take a bath in the trade in since I have two more years to pay it off. I like the style on the outside however on the inside there are not many compartments with mine. I will never go with another Liberty again or recommend it to anyone.

  • Best on all surfaces! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

My liberty is a workhorse, that cleans up for an elegant night on the town. Her size, turning radius, handeling, and acceleration beats most sedans, making city driving a dream. Her rear end does not stick out of any standard parking spot, like so many other SUVs. She can hold her own in the deep sand of the Outer Banks or any mountain trail in the Rockies. Ive been on the road after hurricanes and during ice storms, and blizzards, each time arriving home safely. The Liberty does it all, work and play, reliably, for a fabulous price. If you want a vehicle that rides like a sedan, buy a sedan.

  • They Cant Believe Its a Diesel - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I have to tell most people that this is a diesel engine. The performance and fuel economy are much better than the 3.7L V6. Sure, there are some quirks to owning a diesel, but it isnt as much of a hassle as most think. Besides, this is a quite torquey little SUV with a 5000# towing capacity. And the 5 speed automatic with OD lockout is a great pairing for the Italian-made 2.8L turbo diesel. Shifting into and out of 4WD is easy. Even if the only off-road your CRD sees is a mall parking lot, you wont be disappointed with the truck in the least.

  • 2005 jeep liberty renegade 4 x 4 - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This is first jeep that i have owned. It is very fun to drive. Gas mileage is not the greatest, but everything else makes up for it. I wish there was a light or symbol for the sun roof as i have forgoten and left it open. Also they do not make front mud flaps for the Renegade with rock guards.
