This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

All this car has ever needed in a year and a half is oil changes and that sort of routine maintenance. I like the high ground clearance. Its great for flood prone areas and for dealing with potholes. The "van-style" seating is much more comfortable for my legs than other suvs.

  • The best fun for the most economical price - 2005 Jeep Liberty

The best fun for the most economical price in a small compact SUV on the market today! Try this 6 cylinder with 4WD.Take it everywhere - mountains with ice and snow and watch this baby perform. Yes the Cherokee is nice too but check the handling and quick natured torque of this puppy of a Jeep and you will just see that maybe it isnt just a puppy after all. All weather conditions, try it! Its amazing fun, need to do a quick turnaround - go for the 360~ on a dime. Tight parking no problem, fits right in with NO effort, None! A must try first vehicle before you make any other compact SUV purchase!

I have been driving Toyotas for years and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality, ride, power and economy of my CRD. I bought the Sport CRD with Tow package for $22,600 - brand new - what a bargain. Toyota cant touch that price. I get 23 - 28.5 mpg which is incredible for a true 4x4. So far so good!

17.75 MPG in 2wd. No willing or capable dealer service in Alaska. EGR problems that have to occur 3 times before lemon law kicks in. Lousy expensive tech manual. High beams light the ditch but not the road. Too many computers and idiot lights enforcing a relationship with greedy dishonest dealers. NO help from Jeep Daimler Chrysler Dodge. All brands I wont buy again. As lousy as this thing is under warranty and as lousy as dealer service is I wont be able to afford to own the fixing on this thing post warranty and Im locked out of tuning it through the computers anyway. This is not transportation.

  • Worth the Money! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

It seems like a lot of people who write reviews on the Jeep Liberty do nothing but complain- about the ride, about the poor gas mileage. It will never be confused with a BMW or Mercedes SUV, but neither of those vehicles will ever perform the double duty of driving to a concert on Friday night and then hitting the trail on the weekend. That is where the Jeep Liberty excels- being a little bit of everything. Sure, the interior is plastic, the seats are rock hard and the 3.7l six cylinder engine is sluggish and a gas guzzler. But, the Liberty looks stylish enough to be an "adult" vehicle and provides enough performance to get you to any destination your heart desires.

Excellent vehicle. I like the size, maneuverability over other slightly larger SUVs (Envoy, Explorer) and I think the engine is a good match for the vehicle. In the Jeep forum the 4-speed auto tranny is beat up some, but I think it does a good job. It shifts quickly, and is fairly smart. You can confuse it, but that seems to be true for most autos Ive driven lately. The interior is well put together and looks very high end. The seats are on the very firm side, but I like that.

Really comfortable and roomy for a smaller sized SUV. Feel sporty and trendy zipping around. Great overall buy for the price.

I was so excited about this vehicle when I read about it. Got one and it has not run right yet. It misses, surges, and gets poor mileage. Dealer service people are baffled about why. Am still working on the problem by checking fuel quality while limping the vehicle around. Had to be towed once, and it is so much fun driving not knowing when your vehicle will quit again.
