This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

If you want a small SUV with a great ride and plenty of cargo space this is the ticket. I bought one fully loaded and I love it. Get the GPS navigation System you will never have a car without it again.

I researched alot of SUVs before I made my decision to purchase. I wanted the diesel but a limited number being a produced this year and I needed it to get thourgh the snow to work. The V6 power is great and manageable. The 4wd is great. I also liked the classic looks of the Renegade over the Sport or Limited.

I love my jeep! This is my first Jeep and its not bad at all. It looks good, drives excellent and everybody I talk to wants one. I heard they dont hold their value and mines uses lots of gas which worries me. I may be forced in the 3rd year to trade it in for something bigger like a Jeep Cherekee or whatever. Will do homework next time before I buy for looks again! But overall its still worth the money I paid and I still would buy it again. I love it! Heading for the web site next to book the summer Jeep tour this year if its available, see you there!

  • Best Jeep Yet! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have owned 3 Cherokees and 3 Grand Cherokees. This is my first Liberty and I have to say it is the best one yet. It is the most fun to drive, great get up and go, much tighter than the Cherokees were, sits higher and turns sharper too. The 05 refresh is tasteful and the chrome accents give it an upscale look and feel. The leather seats are a huge notch above the Cherokee leather in quality and it has a very German feel to the interior. You can park this thing just about anywhere with a minium of fuss - paint is glossy and consistent, fittings are snug and properly aligned, controls are logical and content is very high for this price- a lot of Jeep for the money and a lot of fun at any price!

  • This SUV is ROCK SOLID! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

After owning a Jeep Cherokee for eight years, we decided to add another one to our garage. So we went out to test drive the Liberty Sport 4X4 and WOW were we impressed! Very Smooth (better than our sedan), braking was very good, acceleration was very fast and the engine was so quite (it never was loud or odd sounding). And since being a previous Jeep owner, we were suorised to find that the body roll was cut down to almost nothing! All and all this re- design of the 05 is very solid; and you feel that while drving it doesnt feel flimsy or cheap. And the funny thing is the same day we test drove it we came back later and ordered one!

  • Happy w/ Diesel - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Except for squeaky rear brakes at startup for about a week, our 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD has operated fine. We get 24-25 mpg, regardless of speed, which I guess is due to the fact that the difference between 70 and 80 mph is about 3500 rpm. This Jeep pulls our 17 ft boat better than our V-8 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited did. Both vehicles are 4WD, but the Libertys torque is more useful for towing, as it is in the lower rpms. Time will tell if the Liberty proves more reliable than the 1999 Grand Cherokee, which constantly wore out brakes and wore out its transmission at 80,000 miles. The Liberty is not nearly as stable in corners as the Grand Cherokee was, but it beats getting 16 mpg!

  • Look before you leap. - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This was my first American-made auto purchase in many years. Decided to go for an SUV and spent many weeks walking dealer lots, test driving, and reading reviews. Finally went for the Jeep, based on price comparison, features available, and overall ride. Goes without saying that you never know your ride until youve ridden awhile. True in this case. Some nice bells and whistles. But for a guy with long legs, the drivers side compartment seems small. Gas mileage is awful. Cant say much for the power available when you push the pedal. Having said that, Im still pleased with my purchase. Certainly has the WOW! factor. Great feel for the road.

  • Reasonable vehicle for reasonable price - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have done a lot of highway driving in my Liberty and it has performed pretty well--the Check engine light has come on several times and it difficult to get to stay off. Gas mileage isnt the best. Front seats are quite comfortable however the back seat is quite uncomfortable and crammed. I like having the spare tire so convenient. These Jeeps work great on bumpy roads although the ride is a little rough and noisy. Even in 4wheel high, my warning is not to drive it on the highway in any slippery road conditions. I have gone off the road a few times on the ice at . Thank God the vehicle never has rolled over!Over all its a cute little guy but do not expect to get out of a muddy ditch!

  • LOVE MY LIBERTY - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I love my Limited Liberty so much i bought out my lease from a 2002. It got me through tough driving conditions through Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. Many trips hauling plywood and heavy material on the roof. Easy access to taking things off roof. High enough off the ground to keep water out of doors through our disaster. Able to go over broken tree limbs in the street without hurting the undercarriage. Headroom roomy enough for 5 tall adults. Fits in single car garage with lots of room to spare due to it length and width. Sunroof operates easily for driving. Location of all dash instruments at drivers finger tips. Stereo volume controls on steering wheel so you never have to look off the road. Phonecharger.
