Overview & Reviews
For 2004, Jaguar has reduced the base price of the X-Type 3.0 by almost $3,000. In other news, the Sport Package now includes 18-inch wheels and a 320-watt sound system. All X-Types get redesigned alloy wheels, as well as a revised front bumper and new foglights. The trunk lid has been reshaped and the push-button release for the trunk is now easier to operate.
- Comfortable highway ride, attractive styling inside and out, standard all-wheel drive, large trunk.

2004 Jaguar - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By James - November 27 - 6:16 amThe odometer on my X-Type just turned 60k w/ no major problems to report. The car has had a loud squeal which appears to emanate from the underside of the car since the day I brought it home. The dealer told me its normal, that all Jaguars make noise and the decibels are acceptable. A sound shield was installed to muffle the noise, but I still hear it. Aside from that, the dash vents popped off. The dealer replaced them, citing a defect in the plugs that secure them to the dashboard. Overall, the car is nice and is a pleasure to drive. Relatively short money for a luxury vehicle. Id likely buy another, but will make certain it doesnt squeal before I drive out of the dealership.

Cats, Bimmers, Soobies 25K mile update - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By K Kear - October 22 - 4:10 pmA constant maintenance nightmare!!! Every 5K I take the car for service and a list of problems to correct under warantee. 4 attempts to fix the outside temp guage, now turn signal/highbeam switch broke and not fixed right. Terrible Continental tires wore out at 20K miles even after 5K mile rotation and alignments every 10K miles. Guess I wont be buying this one out of the lease. On the positive side, it gets 24.4 MPG when using 94 octane and everyone still thinks I paid 70 grand for it.

Good deal for the money - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By Abdoman - May 7 - 8:00 amMy car has the sport package. Never really liked Jaguar before, but this car has really grown on me. Very good power, but the torque curve is too peakey - the real power is in the 3-4k range which kills gas mileage. The engine is the real downfall of this car. Dont get me wrong 0-60 in 6.6s is good. Handles very well and looks very good. Clutch is a little tricky, very good brakes.

Kitty Corners - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By Chief - April 8 - 2:26 pmI found a steal on a 2004 2.5 X-type with only 21k mileage. I couldnt resist at the under 10k price despite their maintenance reputation. I was shocked at how well it handles and with the 5 speed and 200 horses it can be driven like the cat it is. Im sure the 3.0 or the 430 horse versions are nice improvements. Being in the NW I appreciate the AWD in the snow but the torquey nature of the car will set you sliding if youre not careful. Not an Outback for sure but it looks hotter!

Best certified car out there - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By P Medina - January 28 - 10:50 amI just purchased this 2004 Jaguar X- type and so far I love this car. I was looking for a nice affordable luxury car and decided to check out Jaguar. I was very impressed with the style of the car. The interior is very nice and comfortable with all of the options a nice luxury car should have. I love driving a 5 spd and love that the x- type has it. I can not wait to test the awd in the bad weather. I have had the car for a short period of time but love it so far.

By J. Roames - January 14 - 2:00 amI was really impressed with how solid and well built this car is! Smooth, ride, more power than I will use, and just a beautiful design inside and out. This car will turn heads.

Perhaps second Time a Charm - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By DrJRapp - November 22 - 10:00 amI just purchased my 2d X Type after having the first one collected by the manufacturer last year as a result of a lemon law action. My first comments are, that at about 4K less MSRP than my 2002 X-Type that the car is a much better 36K car than a 40K car. Secondly, fit and finish HAVE improved immeasurably, yet, I believe there is still some need to improve. Thirdly, for some reason the ride and handling are a bit "off" from the 2002 car, especially in the feel of the rear suspension. In fainess, I am comparing my recollection of a car with 10K miles to a car right out of the box in need of break in.

Robert - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By robert - October 3 - 12:43 amNumber one when I tell people I bought my wife a jaguar x they think I spent a lot of money but not really. The car is a lot of fun to drive, holds the road great, fast when I need it, stops great also. I feel safe. The warranty is very good and the company contacts you on every thing. But two things I dont like are brake dust on the wheels and it looks like the Ford Taurus sometimes.

Cat, Subies and Bimmers, 70K update. - 2004 Jaguar X-Type
By kkakear - September 22 - 11:46 pmOK, so said I wouldnt buy it out of the lease and I did anyway. It was the cheapest thing to do. Just put shocks, struts, tires and front brakes on it, all wear items. Havent had any other problems other than a front axle seal leak, covered under warranty. The cars style stands out in a sea of styling mediocrity and angry kitchen appliances. Gas mileage stands at 23 MPG on premium fuel over 71K miles. Never any major problems, just a bunch of annoying small ones and it has never left us sitting, unlike every Japanese car weve ever owned.
