This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, Jaguar has reduced the base price of the X-Type 3.0 by almost $3,000. In other news, the Sport Package now includes 18-inch wheels and a 320-watt sound system. All X-Types get redesigned alloy wheels, as well as a revised front bumper and new foglights. The trunk lid has been reshaped and the push-button release for the trunk is now easier to operate.

Pros:
  • Comfortable highway ride, attractive styling inside and out, standard all-wheel drive, large trunk.
Cons:

I purchased the car new in August 2004 for my wife. She and I both love it. We also had a 1989 XJ6 at the time, and knew Jaguars spotty reputation for reliability was for real with the XJ6. Not so for the X-type...it has had less problems than any other automobile I have ever owned. Only mistake I made was buying an extended warranty; all other cars I have done this with, this has paid off, but not for the X-Type..which has been nearly trouble free for the entire extended warranty period. I highly recommend this car. We always use Shell premium gas; makes a difference in engine running smoothly.

We didnt find the color or equipment we wanted at the dealer so he found one for us and actually, gave us a better deal on the one we now have than the ones he had on the lot. We have every option except dynamic stability control. It has proven to be quite a vehicle. While I hear the BMWs and Acuras are better buys, the Jaguar has a "je ne sais quoi" that the others dont and, there is an exclusivity about owning one. We have had no problems after almost 12,000 miles and it still has that like new feeling. Fun to drive, a real head turner and overall we are quite happy with the car. The all wheel drive has proven itself both in the winter and on the windy mountain roads of SW PA.

We love going on trips to the Maryland shore and find it very enjoyable in this car. My wife drives it about 300 miles every week with her job and finds it very reliable and fun to drive. The all wheel drive gives her a lot of confidence through the winter weather, she prefers driving it over the 4WD Ford Explorer in the snow and especially on wet roads.

The X-type 3.0 has been a pleasure to drive. Although we have not had the car long enough to experience any maintinence intervals however the dealership experience blew us away. The car has good power although acceleration is hampered by the AWD. Downshifts under full throttle could be quicker but this is a "touring car" isnt it? The interier is fabulous. It looks and feels richer than any of the other cars we considered (Mercedes, BMW, Saab, Volvo, Infiniti). This car is well worth a serious look.

This car is great and fun to drive. I purchased it w/navigational system (the british accent is great too). The ride is smooth and very comforatable, pick up to enter the highway is great and the braking is smooth and not awkward.

  • 160k miles & going strong - 2004 Jaguar X-Type

I purchased my 2004 X-Type 3.0 in January, 2011 for $6k. It had 117k, was in excellent shape (except tires), and only one previous owner. The car has been great - routine maintenance, replaced compressor for A/C, couple of minor repairs, all done by local garage vs Jag dealer - less than $2200 in 4 years. Heads-up: rear seat leg room minimal. Fabric covering front roof supports has separated - used fabric glue to repair (easy fix). Requires premium gasoline - upside is it gets 25-27 mpg on trips, only 20 around town. AWD a plus however low ground clearance hinders going in deep snow. Been a great car - no regrets!

  • I cannot be anonymous in this car - 2004 Jaguar X-Type

I purchased this car on a whim as my "other" car for my long daily commute. I did not need this car, the car I traded in was just fine. After 3 months and 5500 miles, it has become my primary car. Everything about it is just right. The balance of size, style, safety features, price, fuel economy, handling, braking, ride, and cost of insurance are just right.
