This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Goodbye to my SUV - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Ive been driving my new 2.5 X type Jag. for about a week. It is hard to believe you get this much bang for your buck. It was about the same MSRP as my Nissan Pathfinder, which I thought was a great car too, but this is real comfort. The inclusion of scheduled maintainance, road service and a loaner is the cherry on top of the ice cream. It is truly a luxery car and I like it better than my Mercedes

  • A car to Enjoy - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Have had the car a month. Love it to death...it I could sleep with it I would. The 3.0 liter has buttery smooth acceleration with plenty of passing and get-up-and-go umph. Exterior and interior styling and finish exudes pur class. More room upfront than the audi a4 and more elegant than the Bimmer. AWD (espeicially with Dynamic Stability Control) make like you feel your on rails especially in a torrential downpour...cant wait to try it in winter!!!!

  • Glad I didnt take the bad reviews to heart - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

After reading several bad reviews I decided to give it a try, as my Lincoln LS was given bad reviews and I loved it. I have owned this car 1 week and it is great! I do know the transmission takes some getting used to but if you can get used to it, this car is very nice. I loved my LS but let me tell you this car is all its cracked out to be and more! I love it and recommend anyone who really enjoys a luxury sports sedan to give it a try. Yes its not a perfect 10 but its very darn close. My desciption "FUN AND CLASSY"!!! Very nice car and the AWD is just a bonus.

  • Very Pleased - Love it - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I looked at many other entry-level sport sedans...but the X-type just grabbed my eye. I love its looks, its exceptional. I have many complete strangers tell me its a beautiful car. I love to drive it, the 5 speed manual is great fun. The alpine stereo is excellent. I love the interior styling and the way it handles on the road especially when revving the engine at 4000 to 6500 RPMs

  • Best buy, best car - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

No words to describe just feeling as you drive.....

  • NICE AWD, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, GET IT - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

FOR THE MONEY YOU CAN DO NO BETTER. PEOPLE THINK ITS A 60,000 DOLLAR CAR. ITS NICE AND REASONABLE. INSURANCE WITH 100 DOLLAR DEDUCTIBLES IS RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP AT 400/6MONTHS. ITS RATED AS A COMPACT BECAUSE IT GETS SUCH GOOD MILEAGE. YOU WONT REGRET IT. IM A HAPPY CAMPER WITH MINE. ;)

  • I highly recommend this car - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I am for a car shopping for a month now. I considered MB C240, Audi A4 3.0, BMW 325i, Lexus ES 300, and Jaguar X-type 2.5. And the winner was Jaguar. Excellent interior quality and design, awesome handling, acceleration, low noise and precise road stability. Audi was underpowered and noisy. MB had so cheap interior so I even refused test drive. BMW lacked in interior design. And Lexus was too small, underpowered and colored in as a parrot.

  • People love to hate Jaguar. - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

People love to hate Jaguar. You hear it all the time...."They are not well built cars, it is just a glamorized Taurus, and it must be pretty stripped down for that price." The truth is the car is absolutely beautiful and a pleasure to drive. I have had my car for 2 years now and nothing has gone wrong. The car has only been to the shop for its scheduled services and with the free maintenance plan, I havent had to pay for anything other than gas. Drive the car, buy the car. You will be glad you did.

  • More Than Expected - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I bought the X-Type because I wanted a manual transmission and all wheel drive (the options Edmunds gives for the reviews didnt include the manual box).I drove the X-Type, BMW and the Audi. The X-Type, even with the Sport package rode better and handled as well if not better. The acceleration is equal to that of the other 2 cars. The overal comfort is better as is the interior room (particularly the back seat once you settle in) and trunk space (it is much larger).

  • Great Ride - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
