Model Overview:

The Infiniti Q50 effectively replaces the Infiniti's popular G series entry-level luxury sport sedan. And just like the G, the Q50 offers an appealing combination of luxury, performance and value wrapped up in handsome styling.

Although the luxury sport sedan segment has historically been dominated by elite German nameplates, the Infiniti Q50 holds its own against these typically pricier models. It also comes with the latest high-tech features, and there's an available hybrid model as well.

Current Infiniti Q50 Specs
The Infiniti Q50 entry-level luxury sport sedan debuted for the 2014 model year. It's powered by either a 3.7-liter V6 with 328 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque or, in the case of the hybrid version, a 3.5-liter V6 and a 50-kilowatt electric motor, which provide a total output of 354 hp. All Q50s come with a seven-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is optional. The regular Q50 comes in base, Premium and Sport trim levels, while the Q50 Hybrid comes only in the upper two trims.

Standard feature highlights on the base trim include keyless ignition/entry, dual-zone automatic climate control and eight-way power front seats. Also included are an electronics interface with twin touchscreen displays, smartphone app integration, Bluetooth phone/audio connectivity, a rearview camera and a six-speaker sound system.

Premium trims also feature a sunroof, heated front seats, leather upholstery (on the hybrid only), a 14-speaker Bose sound system and a multimedia monitor/display, while the Sport adds a sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires, leather seating (for non-hybrid Q50 sedans), a sport driver seat and paddle shifters. The hybrid also includes Infiniti's Direct Adaptive Steering (which offers four different steering responsiveness settings) and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Option highlights include a navigation system, a 360-degree camera parking system, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat and various safety features such as blind-spot warning and front and rear collision warning.

On the move, the Q50 has been somewhat of a disappointment for us. While acceleration is strong, ultimate handling ability on non-Sport trims is hobbled by all-season tires that don't offer the grip we'd expect from this otherwise athletic sedan. Ride quality is similarly mixed. Although the Q50 ably damps out larger bumps and ruts, it gets fidgety on roads with minor imperfections.

Beyond these issues, however, the Infiniti Q50 stands strong thanks to its well-trimmed and comfortable cabin, roomy trunk, user-friendly high-tech features and the impressive fuel economy of the hybrid model. It's worth a good look if you're shopping for a sport-oriented entry-level luxury sedan.

Used Infiniti Q50 Models
The Infiniti Q50 was all-new for 2014. If you're looking at used cars, though, many of the Q50's qualities can be found in its predecessor, the Infiniti G sedan.

  • Hate this car - cant wait to get rid of it - 2014 Infiniti Q50

I used to love the Infiniti brand and my Q50 is the forth one I have owned. Something has happened to Infiniti reliability over the last several years and its moving in the wrong direction. The worst part is that Infiniti leadership doesnt seem to care. This is also the opinion of numerous Infiniti employees I have talked to. Whats good: great engine and performance. Whats bad: electronics system is a hot mess. Has been in for repairs four times. The Infiniti InTouch system is a joke. The back of my trunk is already developing a rust spot and the car is barely over a year old. Problems with the electronic door locks that leave me out in the rain trying to get into my car!

  • ELectronics Dont Work - Dont Buy - 2014 Infiniti Q50

Although I enjoy the way the car drives, when I purchased it I was told that "software updates" would correct any problems. Bottom line, over a year later I have to reboot the computer (turn the car off and on and it takes 45 seconds to boot) because the center console is blank, radio doesnt work, sensors for detecting near objects (like my garage posts) dont stop beeping, radio cuts in and out (not reception), apps dont work.... need I say more? Car doesnt live up to billing which is why I bought it. I object to the way they rolled this out and would not buy another Infinity. Never had this problem with my prior Lexus.

Bought a new 2018 Red sport. Two days after purchase the lower touch screen malfunctions. Took it back to the dealer and was told I NEED A new DCU (the lower screen). I was told it would take 5 days. On the 8th day I had to call to find out whats going on and was told the part is on back order for a month. As of today the month has come and gone and still no car and no idea when I would get it back. Inifiniti customer care has to be the worst in history. I have been lied to and my calls have gone unanswered. They tell me dates, then when the date passes I have to call and then im told another date with no explanation as to why the change. Ive searched the internet and found that the DCU is an on going issue for infiniti since 2014 so they know about it, but when I originally asked if this is something that happens alot, I was told no. This has been my worst purchase ever. The look , power and handling of the car is fantastic but the unreliability of the electronics and the terrible customer service makes this a bad buy. I gave up a reliable Lexus I had for 11 years for this car and it broke in 2 days. This is my first and last Infiniti. After I get it back i need to find a way to get out of it before anything else happens"

Extraordinary highway cruiser. Loads of horsepower to effortlessly pass, refined and comfortable suspension, fantastic seating comfort, concert hall audio quality, and a real world 34.3mpg at an average speed of 77mph with a/c running. This vehicle is near ideal for rolling down the highway.

This is my first Infiniti but it wont be my last, perfect blend of sport and comfort! The power of the V6 twin turbo is amazing given the HP rating, so much quicker than other 300 hp cars I have owned. Guessing its due to the turbos offering torque coming on strong at just 1500 rpms. Maybe its under rated? Anyway, very happy with nearly everything. Given a magic wand I would ask that blind spot monitoring and other the safety items be standard fare. Also it should be real leather! Sticker was 45k but got it down to just 38.5k.

Driven this car for over 2 months. The poor reviews given by other sites is deserved. Frequent reboots of the computer, no sonar, useless directional lines on backup camera, over 50 computer upgrades in only 8 weeks…..think twice about this car.

  • Great so far - 2016 Infiniti Q50

I came off of owning a 2006 Infiniti g35x. I, like others, was worried about the acceleration, with this being a turbo driven(?), smaller engine. While I think perhaps this new one might have a little less grunt if youre already going 40 or 60, off the line, this thing is like a vomit-inducing rocket. Theres a turbo?--I sure cant tell. Yes, the steering is a bit wonky at first but I think I might grow to like it--as of right now Im ambivalent about it. Its like it fights your initial move on the wheel and then slightly keeps it where you move it. Weird. I havent really had a chance to test them out but the brakes dont feel quite as utterly and mind-blowingly amazing as they were on my g35x. Those things were absolutely ridiculous though. I dont think I ever put my foot all the way to the floor. These ones feel a lot more civilized but I think if you do put your foot to the floor thats when theyd really clamp down? We shall see. The interior is mostly a work of art--Im SO glad they changed the colors away from that amber/orange color (gross). However the dual screens are kinda weird. I hope theres a way to just turn off the GPS screen (havent found it yet), cause Id rather not have it on all the time. I also think its pretty bizarre that you cant change the default driving mode (I have actually verified this one). Id much rather have it start up in Eco and whats the point of having a personalized driving mode if you have to click three times to get to it each time you start up the car? Also seems strange that they dont have a main mid display mode that shows current MPH (that could be one thing I just havent found yet, but Ive definitely toggled through all the screen options.) Anyways, those are very minor gripes. So far this car is a dream... I want to live in it.

Ive had the car for about 2 months. My previous car was a G37 IPL, so I will mostly compare this to that and the other two cars I cross shopped this with, the BMW 440iGC/340i and Lexus GS350 F Sport. Its definitely faster than the IPL, but it doesnt feel as sporty. I cant figure out why, but Ive narrowed it down to either the tires being different or because the IPL had a LSD. It just doesnt feel that great in the corners. The acceleration is really good, though. I mainly drive on the highway and its really useful for when you have to speed up to change lanes. From what Ive read, the 400HP ranking is actually underrated. But still, I actually preferred the cars I was comparing this too. I really wanted a Lexus GS, but when it came down to price, there was really no decision at all. They have some insane deals going on. The sticker on mine was $57K. The Lexus and BMW I was looking at were $59K. My monthly lease payment is $250-350 lower with the Infiniti. My payment is actually $50 lower than what it was for my IPL and this has a lot more power and technology. The gas mileage is pretty good too. I get 24mpg in Sport mode and 25 in Normal. One time I was running low on gas, so I took it easy on the pedal and I got up to 30mpg. So in conclusion, the car looks great, handles okay, has a lot of power, interior is comfortable with a good amount of space, has all the new technology, and even gets pretty good gas mileage if you dont mash the peddle. And they usually have really good deals going on, so its great value for the money.
